Studio Chair

I'm keeping an eye on this thread as I'll be needing a studio chair soon. My wife has stipulated that if I'm to have a studio in the house, the chair can't look like an office chair.
2. How do non wood necks fall in to the debate, such as carbon fibre? My Ibby has a thin wooden neck (they're known for having very thin necks). One thing that it doesn't lack, is low end & I've tried many basses in my time. So unless Ibanez have managed some special magic, I declare shenanigans.
3. I started on keys, got a guitar, then got a bass. Bass was my fave instrument to play for a long time, but as of recent, I've found keys more fun. Whilst I'm a competent enough guitarist, it's never been a more fun instrument to play than bass.
4.
Having had a slight heads-up on this I made a start yesterday afternoon on a rather random improvisation with a scary feel, taking the Blue Poles as time signature! It may not be very popular...
Is it in 8/4?
5. I've yet to vote, but I will be. It's hard to choose just 3 from this lot!
6. Just had a listen to all of the tracks & I think it's gonna be really hard to choose 3. All excellent works!
7. I'm interested in everything that you use to make the track.
8. Cheers chaps. I'm really looking forward to listening to this month's entries. I'm at work just now, but I'm sure I could make some time tomorrow morning. I've updated the instrument list too (Like Monrats does, it's a brilliant idea to know what other folk use). I'll update the fx list later.
9. I really didn't expect to get this done in time, but I persevered & here's my composition... https://soundcloud.c.../mass-emptiness I get a sense of being alone in Brooklyn. The pic itself has a sense of calm & abandonment which I've tried to portray. Instruments used: NI Massive (for the plucky sound) Apple Alchemy (for the pad sound) Apple Retrosynth (for the lead sound)
10.
The definition of a locked boot is where they get you on that. Only old jags and some saloons still have a locked boot, if the seats can be lowered from inside the car or it can be accessed by breaking the glass and removing a luggage cover or parcel shelf its not a locked boot. Been there, been through the FSA bondsman and they just said, read the small print next time.
Policies underwritten by Aviva have a better wording to favour the customer "The item must be placed out of view in a boot, luggage or glove compartment of a securely locked vehicle". However, do check what the theft value limit is. E.G. Barclays' is £1500, but then things can be specified too.
11. Musician - A person who writes, sings or plays music. Musicians could be a collective of people in a band, or it could be someone whom makes music on a single instrument. Someone plonking away on a string might not be classed as music, hence that person may be training to be a musician. Just like someone who rides a bike is a cyclist. If you get on a bike for the first time & fall off, you're not a cyclist until you can actually cycle. If you play an instrument in a band and actually make music, then you are a musician. Bear in mind that you do get bad as well as good musicians. Amateur, semi professional & professional all have no bearing on whether the person is a musician. I play bass, guitar & keys, so I'm a musician. I could be classed as a composer as I compose tunes, but I prefer to be classed as a musician.
12. When I used to play round wound strings, probably one every year. There was always one or two songs with a slapped bassline. Since moving to flat wounds, one D string (which I was gutted at as the strings were only a few years old). Haven't snapped any singe then though.
13. We split the fee too. If one pulls out, then if we give a day's notice, there's nothing to pay. Like Monday just passed, the drummer texted to say that he is unwell. I texted the other guys to see if they wanted to still go, but then texted the rooms to cancel. Sometimes just the 3 of us will go & use it to write stuff & make a noise. If it's non refundable & we don't go, then we all pay.
14. My party piece is playing the bass with my tongue. I don't actually get much in the way of bass sounds, just some buzzing & the occasional shock. But it does put a nice shine on some parts of my bass. Oddly, not many folk are impressed by it. So I'll play Fur Elise & that Bach song that everyone knows (BVW1007).
15. BRX gave me the USB advisce when I was looking at interfaces. I was tempted by the Zoom Tac 2 as it's thunderbolt. I decided to go with the NI as it has 4 audio inputs & even though it is USB & I use it along with a USB keyboard (musical one), I've never experienced any issues on either my iMac or Macbook. I use Logic Pro X as my main DAW & all runs perfectly fine.
16. There's also the option of using a laptop or ipad for the amp sim & fx. I'm planning on either using the macbook or ipad for gigging (if I do gig again). I use amp sims on the mac at home.
17. I've been using a NI Komplete Audio 6 without any issues at all. Solid built bit of kit too!
18. See what these chaps have said about joining a band... Spot on. YouTube is also a great place to learn things. Especially if you're wanting to learn a bassline to a song or learn a technique. The other thing that you should learn properly is your music theory. Can get boring, but worth it in the long run.
19.
I can't see why you would hate ISIS, they were a pretty good band.
Not as good as Was Not Was though.
20.
yes! that's a great speaker, I use the 15BX's and love them. If you like a snappy high end, you might want a tweeter but it's a great all around speaker for sure
I'm a flatwound player. I like my bass bassy.
21. If you're wanting to replicate the NY 604, wouldn't it make sense to use the same brand of drivers & get as close a spec as possible? Markbass use B&C drivers (though I believe they now have their own custom made drivers, possibly still by B&C?). It would make more sense though to flog the NY604 & get a cab or two that has what you're looking for already (sound, decibels, looks, etc).
22. Cheers Bill. I'll habe a look at both those cabs.
23. Rummaging through my dad's shed, I found a boxed (& unused) EV DL15X driver. Going by the code, I think it was made in November 1996. So as I'm without bass rig & started playing again, I'm wondering if this driver would be any good to design a bass cab around (thinking about getting BFM plans)? It does say "Low Frequency Producer" on the magnet.
24. You can still make use of the Drawmer on an audio bus or to polish your finished mix.
25.
Eek A Mouse, Wa-Do-Dem
Wa-do-dem was the first song that came into my head when I read this thread. Brilliant song off a brilliant album. I'm gonna suggest someone I think no one on here's heard of... Bob Marley In all seriousness though, Exodus is a fantastic album.
