1. BRX gave me the USB advisce when I was looking at interfaces. I was tempted by the Zoom Tac 2 as it's thunderbolt. I decided to go with the NI as it has 4 audio inputs & even though it is USB & I use it along with a USB keyboard (musical one), I've never experienced any issues on either my iMac or Macbook. I use Logic Pro X as my main DAW & all runs perfectly fine.
2. There's also the option of using a laptop or ipad for the amp sim & fx. I'm planning on either using the macbook or ipad for gigging (if I do gig again). I use amp sims on the mac at home.
3. I've been using a NI Komplete Audio 6 without any issues at all. Solid built bit of kit too!
4. See what these chaps have said about joining a band... Spot on. YouTube is also a great place to learn things. Especially if you're wanting to learn a bassline to a song or learn a technique. The other thing that you should learn properly is your music theory. Can get boring, but worth it in the long run.
5.
I can't see why you would hate ISIS, they were a pretty good band.
Not as good as Was Not Was though.
6.
yes! that's a great speaker, I use the 15BX's and love them. If you like a snappy high end, you might want a tweeter but it's a great all around speaker for sure
I'm a flatwound player. I like my bass bassy.
7. If you're wanting to replicate the NY 604, wouldn't it make sense to use the same brand of drivers & get as close a spec as possible? Markbass use B&C drivers (though I believe they now have their own custom made drivers, possibly still by B&C?). It would make more sense though to flog the NY604 & get a cab or two that has what you're looking for already (sound, decibels, looks, etc).
8. Cheers Bill. I'll habe a look at both those cabs.
9. Rummaging through my dad's shed, I found a boxed (& unused) EV DL15X driver. Going by the code, I think it was made in November 1996. So as I'm without bass rig & started playing again, I'm wondering if this driver would be any good to design a bass cab around (thinking about getting BFM plans)? It does say "Low Frequency Producer" on the magnet.
10. You can still make use of the Drawmer on an audio bus or to polish your finished mix.
11.
Eek A Mouse, Wa-Do-Dem
Wa-do-dem was the first song that came into my head when I read this thread. Brilliant song off a brilliant album. I'm gonna suggest someone I think no one on here's heard of... Bob Marley In all seriousness though, Exodus is a fantastic album.
12.
Bent Bit Of Tim Bent Bit Of Tim is quite a disturbing image
Indeed. They're pretty brutal! I was going to correct it before I hit post, but then I remembered good ol'e TIM & decided to leave it.
13. Bent Bit of Tim. I never noticed a difference in sound or sustain when I changed from a high mass to a bbot.
14. I really wanted to get an entry in. I even got the funky bass sound that I wanted, but I doubt I'm gonna get anything done in time. It's another great pic too.
15. Garageband is a stripped down version of Logic. Ideal for finding out if Logic is going to be for you. With Logic you have full control over all those presets & track stacks (track stacks are basically multiple VST tracks enveloped into one master VST track. Youtube it) as well as being able to manipulate Drummer to great detail (Drummer is Apple's version of EZDrummer, etc). I used Cubase from the mid 90s through to about 2007 (along with an early version of Reason). Then I got my first Mac & only had Cubase for Windows. I installed Reaper, but I found I was using Garageband more. I jumped to Logic about a year ago & it's all that I use now. To me, Logic is worth buying just for some of the AU instruments & fx alone.
16. If the headphone port works with the iPhone headphones (which is more than likely), then you could get an adaptor that has in/out to plug into it, such as an iRig. I'd still opt for an audio interface.
17. Is this sticky thread not of use? http://basschat.co.uk/topic/87414-how-to-make-a-good-looking-and-sounding-youtube-video/
18. The best thing to do is try it. Just make sure your Ω are good for the amp. If it was a guitar rig you was using, I'd say play lightly with the left, but bass gear usually covers the same frequency range as PA. I used my MarkBass as church PA a few times. Playing guitar, bass & edrums through it as well as music from mp3s.
19. There's a thread in the FX section dedicated to using iOS gigging rigs to replace your fx & amp. I'll likely go down this route if I go gigging (more likely to be the macbook & audio interface for me though as I have NI guitar rig & Logic Pro X on there).
20. Ooh. I think I might get to use some clavinet with wah this month.
21. I'm a musician. Bass just happens to be my fave instrument to play. I play more at home than I do in a band these days & enjoy writing songs, though I do play keys more than any other instrument nowadays. So much so, I'm thinking about becoming the keys player in the band. If I wasn't in the band, I'd still play bass.
22.
But... but... but... I thought this was for bass only..?
Bass trumpet (AKA tenor horn)?
23.
Speaking of which for next month if I plugged two basses into one amp and played them at the same time is that ok or a sneaky way to get around the one track rule?
If you video it as proof, I'd vote for you!
24. It's like at my work, they have a monthly draw & you nominate people. The organisers said "You can vote for yourself", but to me, it's not the done thing. Not one for blowing my own trumpet.
25. Looking forward to seeing the pic. Hopefully something funky sci-fi?
