1. Just flashed up from Sky news on my phone. I hope they're wrong!
2.
I'd say the result was something like the punch and bite of Billy Gould's tone on The Real Thing album but with a meatier bottom end which is pretty much the description I'd have used if you'd asked me what my ideal tone would be.
I think turning your amp's "bass" dial 1 notch from right down would give you a meatier bottom end! As brilliant an album as that is, I think Matt Wallace used a pair of PA subs to master it on.
3.
Does soundcloud do weird stuff to the upload???
Not that I know of, but I'm deaf. Make a Soundcloud account & have a play about with it. I've got a few SC accounts.
4. Just had a listen to the other noodles. It amazes me how each one sounds very different & none are something that I could have come up with. Brilliant stuff chaps!
5.
Thanks dad... I see it has been delt with...
& here's me thinking that you liked it soo much that you had to post twice! Glad you enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to letting the band hear it.
6. I'm really struggling to get something from the pics. I might give this month's a miss.
7. Here's my entry. https://soundcloud.com/xgsjx/maruchan I started writing this bassline many moons ago & then forgot about it. I was messing about with my bass & started playing it again. I'm gonna put it to the band & see if they fancy working on it. If not, it'll go to a wee project. Ibby bass into Logic, bass amp sim, compressor, reverb & delay on a couple of busses & that's it. Played along to a click at 188 bpm.
8.
Well, it used to be accepted to conk ladies on the head and drag 'em into caves. It's called evolution, I think.
Where can I find this evolution?
9. I'm waiting for ZZ top to sue Status Quo!
10. Money & a skint/greedy relative?
11. Sit back & think about what sort of music you would enjoy playing the most, then join/start a band that fills your musical needs.
12. Ain't it funny how some months the pic can click with you & then other months - nothing. I'll keep trying, but the image gives me fast action & the video gives me slow suspense. Maybe I could do something about a dog chasing them down the mountain? I'll keep at it.
13. The other thing to take into account (which I'm surprised no one mentioned, including me), is the venue itself. I found that every venue I played, I had a slightly different EQ setting. Always tried to go as flat as possible, but at many venues, flat sounds crap.
14. When playing live, it's down to what instruments there are, what genre of music & what should you're going for. That EQ setting would probably have worked well in my old rock band too (& the new band), but then it might have needed something different for my acoustica band.
15. The other 2 comps are the same. Just a small amount of voters each month. You might even find some months might only get a couple of entries. But the following month there'll be loads.
16.
Or far more conveniently you could just buy yourself a cheap synth.
But there's something satisfying about playing synth sounds on a bass (says the guy who is now having fun playing keys).
17.
I was auditioning some instruments for my idea for this month and accidentally created a nice little track that could have some legs of its own. It's not what I had in mind for the comp but I may get two out of this month's
As long as you attach a snowboard to those legs.
18.
Playability every time. Tone can be synthesised / faked more readily.
That's a good point. You can put it through an octave such as an OC2/3 with no dry sound & then some dirt & filters & you'll have yourself synthy goodness.
19. I think they're lovely basses & I would have thought £500 was a bargain for such a nice instrument. Some things sell quick, others can take an age. It's down to someone looking for what you happen to be selling. Had I been looking for a bass & not a keyboard, it would've been on my list.
20. I didn't vote because it depends. If you're playing to an audience, then if the bass sounds crap,no amount of playability is gonna get you a good sound & will end up making you a retired bassist. If you're a home player, then playability is likely gonna be the preferred choice.
21. How many times have I told you Jack, we're not playing "Call me Al"!
22. You know you really need an Ampeg SVT Pro & 2 8x10 cabs.
23.
... which is why the packets have the warning, if they could, indeed, contain nuts as well as peanuts..? Sounds very sensible to me.
A girl at work was selling cupcakes. I bought one & she said "that one contains nuts. I'm allergic to nuts, so if you're planning on kissing me". I replied with "I didn't know you was a lesbian". Good job she's got a sense of humour as she's also a manager.
24. Nope, I've never heard anything like either of those 2 compositions. Amazed at how totally different they sound!
