1.
... But what would I know, I'm an old drummer that still uses brushes and back-beat hi-hats a lot, so...
I used to have an old drummer that used brushes. We played Drum n Bass.
2. This might sound like a stupid idea, but rather than having multiple loop pedals, why not get a 2nd tuner & use one on each rig?
3. Funnily enough, my idea is a mix of metal & drum n bass, maybe a bit of dubstep & speed techno. Getting the bpm to make it sit together is gonna be fun.
4. I do a lot of walking, so earbuds are possibly my most used listening method. In the house I tend to either use headphones or the computer's 2.1 speaker system (which is decent). If I'm in the bedroom, the phone or iPad gets plugged into a docking station (which is actually not all that good). I also like to listen to music in the car & Bluetooth the phone to it. Final option is listening through the iPad speakers when I'm on the shunky. I'm really wanting a proper hifi again though. Mainly amp (w/Bluetooth), speakers & turntable (so I can dig my vinyl out again). To me, vinyl is the best way to listen to music, as you have to actually go & put it on & turn it over 1/2 way through.
5. I guess there's a bit of wait time between the songs at gigs? Maybe enough time to catch a football match.
6.
I will enter next time, judging by my playing at rehearsal the other night (first time I've touched a bass in a month) it will be sh*t!
Well the working name for the comp was "Play any old sh!te", which allowed me my entry.
7.
Well to be fair, it does kind of depend what it is she's being asked to do...
Usually one of her friends asking if she wants to go shopping or out for lunch. She'd take that as "are you calling me Out To Lunch ?", which to be honest, she must be. She married me!
8.
Already established and becoming more so. I didn't mean my replies to come across as quite so outraged and ranting, btw.
Don't worry about it. I never read it as outraged or ranting. That's the problem with written stuff, it's easy to misinterpret the way in which someone is trying to convey. I always take it as friendly banter & has to be quite strongly worded for me to view it differently (I.E. You'd have to be calling me names). The Mrs on the other hand, she's fell out with people via text for simply asking if she wants to do something.
9.
Maybe to you. I'm enjoying my particular version of Band 2 immensely. It's a country band...
But is your band the same as Blue's band 2? Put the genre aside, there's nothing wrong with a bit of country music. My last gigging band played a lot of Americana. Have you joined an already established band or are you still in the "working on getting established" stage? I think band 2 sounds like the US version of a ceilidh band. More specifically, joining an already established one. If you like playing a specific genre of covers regularly and you enjoy it, then bonus. It's not my cuppa. I like writing songs. Your band might like writing songs too, I'm not comparing yours with band 2. That's like me comparing band 1 with another BC member's blues band. Just because it's blues, doesn't make it the same band circumstances. BTW, I'm not dissing C&W.
10. Why didn't you try the compressors out on your multi units? Then you would have known if you wanted one. If you can, borrow one first. I did & decided I didn't need one.
11.
... with maybe less bitterness and snobbery, too. What's not to like in doing things for fun only..?
Spot on. The C&W band sounds more like a job than enjoyment. I'm not saying that because it's a C&W band, but because it sounds similar to being in a functions band (weddings, ceilidh, birthday dj, etc). At one point, band 2 would have been band 3. They have to start somewhere. If you're not into watching your band grow & just interested in money, then Band 2 is the one to go for. If you're interested in music & none of the other 3 appeal, start your own band & maybe call it Band 5.
12.
Band number 1 is not really a band. Classic boys night out for fun. Blue
Might be a boys night out for fun, but they're still a band.
13. Some folk might like it, but there's no way I could play C&W basslines all night every gig unless I was getting paid well & able to take the parney out of it. I don't mind playing the odd song, but I'd rather be in any of the other 3 bands. Reminds me of a joke... Why do cowboys have poop in their tash? # Just looking for love in all the wrong places.
14. That's really good to hear. They were helpful when I had queries about using the KA6. The NI forum is helpful too.
15. Hard choices. After listening to the first 3 I thought "That's the 3 I'll choose", but then the following are all fantastic noodles too! I'll have a few more listens & see what ones I hum in my head.
16. Oh, we vote? Cool. I'll get listening to the tracks tomorrow.
17.
Yeah, they're offering the upgrade from Komplete Select to Komplete 10 for £144.50 and I thought of you and your newly purchased S88.
Having spent all my pennies on the S88, I'll have to hope they keep the offer on for about 4 months, give me time to save up for it. Though I do get a bonus at the end of this month... If they give me a decent bonus, I might just manage it. Here's hoping. I've got 2 £22 evouchers, but I can only use one at a time. The only reason I chose the S88 over the other keys was that I got it at the sale price of £679. It's now £729 everywhere. At one point I was going for the Akai Advance61, but I think I've made the right choice. The keybed on the 88 is really good, I like the ribbons & the lights on the keys are cool. Even Komplete Select is a great package.
18. If you're going for a 2nd combo & you already like the sound of the one you have, get a 2nd identical one. If it were I, I'd sell it & get a head & 2 identical cabs that I like (or one good cab that can put out the dbs).
19. On the vocals, try a short delay rather than reverb (or even both). EQing the vocals to fit can take a little patience & a VST multimeter is your friend. It's not so much the vocal is too loud, but needs a bit of finishing. Like Mr Stone says, compression on the final mix as well as limiter & EQ to glue it all together.
20.
Also a good call on EBS, but I'd be interested to know if you're speaking from experience with regards Ashdown or just perpetuating a myth? I've had nothing but good experiences with my ABM.
Nothing bad to say about the ABM range, it's the Superfly & Little Giant (the stereo amps) that I heard many reports of fire.
21. Don't EBS run to 2 ohm? Then there's Ashdown. Some of their amps are 2x4ohm channels (though keep a fire extinguisher handy).
22. Well, have you give up yet? Like he above says, if you really learn an instrument, you never fully give up. A couple of years ago I stopped playing bass & sold most of my gear (except a bass & some cables). No intention of playing live again. I do however have great fun recording & as I play other instruments too, never spend much time away from music. Last year a chap asked if I wanted to jam with him & a couple of others just for fun. Had a could of outings, but the last time was late November, so due another jam soon I hope. I'm hoping it doesn't go anywhere really or I might have to buy some sort of rig. Anyway, if you do give up bass, mind & take up another instrument (I wouldn't choose guitar, maybe bouzouki?).
23. I've been working my way through the tracks & it's gonna be hard to choose just 3! Superb stuff all round. Many of the best albums I had were in gatefold covers. I remember when I bought Marillion's Script for a Jester's Tear on vinyl & when I got home, I found that the person in Woolies had put 2 copies of the record in (they must t have thought it was a double album). Swapped the 2nd copy without the cover for Love but The Cult.
24. If you haven't already, then have a wee read through Skol303's "Beginner's Guide..." sticky thread in this sub forum. It's got a wealth of info. For the interface, you just need to decide how many inputs you want (2 in/out is quite common). Whether you choose Focusrite, Steinberg, Roland, Presonus or any other is down to preference. They're all pretty much up to the job (though I'd read a couple of reviews on sound & build quality if it's not one of the more popular ones that you choose). If the keyboard is for single note things, then you'll get plenty of keyboards for next to nowt. I'd still consider the Nektar ones as you can control your daw from it to quite a degree. I think the Presonus studio might fit your bill, but have a look around at your options.
