Would it be the same idea as the current comp where there's a pic to compose to, or would it be something else? I'd happily compose a little solo bass number now & again. It's these sort of things that end up getting used in songs.
Can't believe you got away with posting that, given some of the responses you might have had.
Shhh. I've almost made it.
Yeah, looks like it was a deal across all the keyboards with the Komplete bundle. If you get the keyboard by itself you do get Komplete Select - http://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/keyboards/komplete-kontrol-s-series/software-details/. A nice range of instruments with Massive being the shining star. I'm using Reaper as my DAW.
Until 2 days ago, I could get the S49 for £339, now everywhere it is £399. I've now got my eye on a new contender, the Alesis VX49. It has a decent software suite & runs similar to the Akai Advance boards. Still waiting until next month though, see what the prices are post NAMM.
It was our target audience
I've not heard it yet, but I'm gonna listen with the moggies in the same room.
I was happy with 4 octaves on my old midi keyboard but I thought that if I'm going for a premium keyboard it was worth the extra £50 for the 61 keys. If the price difference was £80-100 I wouldn't have even considered it. I'm not sure if I actually use the extra octave at the moment though.
Unfortunately the S49 has shot up in price too. Hoping that it comes back down. Which DAW do you use?

I've no plans to leave here any time soon. I'm pretty thick skinned & don't take offence easily. I'm mainly on here these days for the 2 comps & also enjoy the banter that's on here most of the time. There's the occasional comment which can come across as insensitive or offensive, but it can sometimes be something that was written without any malice intended. It's just how the reader interprets it. My wife's fell out with people via text because the sentiment behind the words isn't always portrayed in the written form.
So in terms of how the keyboard helped (as xgsjx is interested):....
Cheers Unfortunately the S61 has shot up in price, so I'm considering the S49. Going back to keys & wondering if 4 octaves is enough.

Too hard to choose! There's a few great albums already been mentioned & I'd add New Order - Substance 1987, Simple Minds - New Gold Dream & Marillion - Misplaced Childhood. But I'm gonna go for something that got me into electronic stuff & remixing... Human League - Love and Dancing A remix album of Dare, which is also a great album.
Cheers for that, I read the manual for the Komplete and it ticks a lot of boxes. There's a daunting amount of kit out there so recommendations are appreciated
Been a busy week, but I've got it done. I made 2 identical tracks in Logic, set one to Input 1 & the other to Input 4. Played the exact same thing for both using the same bass & cable (just unplugged from input 1 & plugged int input 4). https://soundcloud.com/xgsjx/bass-into-ka6-1-vs-4 Hope it's what you're looking for.

My comments are purely in jest & not to offend. I could just as easily have banter with the Perth dialect where "Doss" means something good, as in "that's totally doss", to which I usually reply "it is, ya doss" (which is me using doss as its intended derogatory term). I think highly of Bill & his wisdom & knowledge are a great help to many in the BC community (which he is a part of). Anyway, I'm off to peel some potatoes.
Why do you spell color 'colour'? And it's not a boot, it's a trunk.
You wear trunks on your feet?

I got a NI Kontact Audio 6 recently & it's superb (so far anyway). If you're looking for something cheaper, there's the Presonus iOne or the Focusrite Scarlet Solo, which are both less than £70 & can be used with your iPad too (I was really tempted by the Presonus iTwo for this reason). If you're wanting to use the thunderbolt on your iMac, have a look at the Zoom Tac-2. It was down at £99 last month.

I used to use a light blue Boss CE-2 when I had my board. Set pretty fast to give that great DnB bass vibrato. It's now sat in a drawer beside my old dirt pedal.
I've got one in the works for this month too. I've been playing with my new Komplete Kontrol S61 and Komplete 10. I need to mix it and tweak one of the instruments and it should be ready.
No pressure, but listening to your track is gonna help me decide if I go for the S61 or go for the Nektar P6. The S61 has the great software, but the P6 has more sliders & pads & has better control of Logic (& I could buy Massive separately).

I'm gonna make sure I vote this month. I just didn't get time to listen to all the songs last month. But what I did hear was rather good.

Cheers I was tempted to add more to it & maybe even vocals, but the Mrs really likes it as it is (in a less is more kinda way), so no further additions planned.

Got mine uploaded. https://soundcloud.com/gxmix/butterflies-in-the-rain-gx Good to be able to get a good recording of my bass & I enjoyed playing the keys too. I'll be playing as much as I can in future.

I often found the VLE at just above 9 o'clock & the VPF turned off. The rest was set flat & then adjusted to the room.

Recreating synth sounds - any tips on ear training?
xgsjx replied to EBS_freak's topic in Other Instruments
I agree with those above, but if you know what synth you're trying to replicate, then you'll find plenty of VST versions of most hardware synths. Open a simple synth in Logic (maybe the ES2 or the Retrosynth) & have just the one oscillator open. Put the resonance right down & the cutoff right up, put the sustain up full on all parts & play about with the waveforms. You'll find that the waveforms usually go from Sine to Triangle to Saw & then Square (often followed by Pulse). Now reduce the cutoff & increase the resonance & have a play about with the ADSR for the filter. Spend a little time with the one synth & find out how it works. With the more complex ones like Alchemy, it becomes a bit more tricky though. -
I think most USB mixers can put out on multiple tracks, but there are some that don't. Same goes for multi in audio interfaces. I went for the KA6 because it has lots of connections compared to most in the same price bracket. Had I went 2nd hand, then I dare say there would have been a good few others to consider. I'll try & get the bass recorded on Sunday. Off to bed shortly & got a day away tomorrow.

Having it in a shop means that people can try it out before they buy. Downside is window lickers going in & playing your bass with no intention of buying it & you not being able to see if they're taking care of it. Most music shops up this way sell gear for individuals.
Cheers xgsjx, could be a contender. Do you know if all 4 inputs can be used simultaneously with each being recorded on its own track in the DAW? And if inputs 3&4 which the manual says are balanced (so TRS cable?) would be ok with an instrument plugged in with a mono cable?
You can record all 4 ins at once as 4 separate tracks in you DAW. I'll check how it sounds with my bass plugged into input 3 & post comparisons for you. From what I read, you can use a mono or stereo jack in each input (just like the front ins).

Good to see a good few entries already. I've got mine almost complete. I had started doing something more rock based, but the more I looked at the pics, the less what I was dong related to it. So I started again, plugged in the keyboard & played some lekky piano, laid some beats down (playing the piano keys) & then plugged in my bass & played. Pretty laid back & the Mrs likes it too. I'll get it finished next week.
