I class myself as a musician as I don't just play bass. I started on keys (still love synth tweaking), took up tenor horn, then guitar & then bass. Basslines are my favourite part of the music, so it made sense to be a bassist, but I've been a guitarist & keys player probably as much as a bassist.

Based on a recommendation on BC, I got a pair of Superlux HD688B headphones. Superb quality & they come with interchangeable cables (1m & 3m included). The Mrs says she can hear them as they're not a fully closed back enclosure. It was a choice between these & the Edifier H-850 (which are based on the PJB H850).

Guitarist obsessed with scooped tone is driving me crazy
xgsjx replied to Naetharu's topic in General Discussion
Been there & left. The 2nd option is to give your tone very little low end & plenty of mids. Go for as nasal a sound as possible so you can fit in the guitard's scooped tone. Maybe play an octave up even (& use chords). The 3rd option is to offer to swap instruments with the wannabe bassist. -
MARKBASS Little mark 3 & 102p (2x10) traveler - new amp day !!!!
xgsjx replied to Wonky2's topic in Amps and Cabs
That's a nice wee rig. I had Roqsolid make a cover for mine & never had any issues with it in the many years that I had it. Easy to wipe clean & more importantly, gave good protection from getting chucked from car to venue & back. As for the badge, I think it looks fine where it is (I considered moving mine, but opted not to). -
I'd try the Moog. I often wish I never sold mine.

Might it be worth having a word with SA? From what I've seen so far, they're very customer friendly.

Nice. I like the way it's just drums & piano to start with & the chorus is really catchy. Nice bassline too. If you ever did have the time to write a track of that calibre for the monthly comp, then you'd be a serious contender.
It's the height I need for monitoring , I've tried putting the cab on a flight case etc , I wonder If I could do the same as you have but with a smaller BF cab on op of the 12T ?
isn't 2 2x10s stacked vertically getting the top driver closer to ear level than what it would if you popped to on top of a single 15, & if not wouldn't it be the same height? As for the BF stack, why not ask Alex his opinion & if you can try one?
must admit I don't get this speaker size doesn't effect depth argument, if that was the case we could all have 1" speakers couldn't we? I've always found a 15" has more grunt than a 10", limited experience granted
PJB cabs are multiples of 5" drivers. The only big difference between a 5" & a 15" driver is that the single 15" will move more air than a single 5".
Time to wake up, Rip Van Winkle; the 'yawning' one was last month. The picture has changed, since..!
wWhat... This one's gone past the yawn. I'm in full blown sleep stasis. The picture made me think "out in space, looking at planet Earth". How weird is that! Should get it finished for Xmas.

I've got the foundations of mine too. The problem with it is that I keep falling asleep to it!
The Alan C can't be paired with an extension cab, it has two separate internal amps, one which pumps 100watts into the horn, and as said previously a second which pumps 500w into its single 12inch speaker, I've been considering one of these myself as a one cab solution but can one 12ich combo really be as loud as the two 12inch speakers I already have with my CMD121p and NY121. even at the same wattage?
Simple answer... No. You'll get an extra 3db tops. Watts alone don't equate to volume. 2 12" drivers are pushing way more air than a single 12" can. Air moving is what you hear. The B&C drivers that Markbass used to use have a huge excursion compared to many other drivers, allowing them to be unbelievably loud for such small combos. I'm not sure what the newer Markbass drivers are like, but I'd imagine they'll be just as good.

If you know nowt about effects, then get a multi effects unit. They can be picked up for cheap enough & you'll get to learn what different things do. Once you get to know them, then you can get the individual ones in (potentially) better quality to build your own sound. Like is said above, there are no rules to using effects, just as long as it sounds good. I played in an acoustica band with a pedal board suited to dubstep & we got many compliments.

Having had the CMD102p, I'd say give that a try out too. One handed lift, not too big & mighty loud with a good low end. Speaker diamiter has sod all to do with how it produces frequencies. The 10s in the MarkBass produce a load more lows than my Marshall 2x15 stack ever did. Good speaker & cab design these days means the 70s thinking of 15" for lows & 10" for punch is well & truly redundant. The more air your speakers can move, the more you're gonna move those lows. The "p" indicates that the cab/combo has a piezo. My combo was made in Italy & never had a yellow piezo. The best way to check if it was made in Italy is to look at the back right of the head, if it was made in Italy it'll say "Made in Italy". I'd try a few of them out & get the one you like the best.

Whilst I'm no Bieber fan, I do like his recent batch of songs. As for his antics... He's more rock n roll than most of today's rockers!

RMJ Mastermind GT? Not cheap, but then nor was the Moog.
That all sounds a bit sensible and orderly for my tastes
I can see your problem... You've run out of 1/4" sockets. Get some Moog & Koma pedals, they have CV so you can run 4x as many cables from each pedal.

I didn't get a chance last month. Never even got time to listen to the songs yet. I'm in for this month though!

I went for years in various Rock & Metal bands with no effects. Joined an Acoustica band & started building up a board which ended up pretty complex, but gave me a great synth sound which also worked in the Electronica band I later joined. Now I'm in a blues rock band with no effects. It really depends on the genre. Dubstep, Electronica & Acoustica definitely benefit from a good board.

After much humming & hawing, I was gonna grab the Persons iTwo studio pack, then saw the Zoom Tac-2 drop to £99, but after having a good look at it, the plastic box put me off. Then a new contender appeared that I hadn't really noticed before... OK, I can't use it with my iPad, but it's got 4 separate ins & outs, a digital in/out & Midi, so I've bought myself a NI Komplete Audio 6. I'll let you know after Xmas if it's any good.

Calling all 'NERVE' fanatics and EFFECT ENTHUSIASTS alike... help please!
xgsjx replied to Greg.Bassman's topic in Effects
He's recently changed a lot of his stuff. The moogs have all been replaced. He now has an eurorack for low & high pass (& bitcrushing too) & the MP201 has been replaced with a RJM Mastermind GT. The octaver he now uses is the Pearl Octaver. I used to use an OC3 into a splitter, then into dirt, Moog LPF & then some fast chorus to give that DnB wobble. Sounded tremendous & sometimes I wish I still had my rig. Like is said above, think of your bass as just a controller & tone generator & learn about modular synths. -
I took the wooden panels off the sides, covered the inside with sticky backed copper foil (putting enough on to go around the lip) & then put them back on. Cut a lot of the noise down by doing so too.

I'd strongly suggest learning score as opposed to tablature. Score might take a little longer to start with, but it's far more informative. As for how to read. It's just like reading words, it goes from left to right. The stroke down to the dot indicates the speed it is read & the where the dot is placed indicates the pitch.

I'm missing this mumph. Will still be voting though.
