1. That doesn't sound like fun. Good that you've gotten through it & you sound like you're ready to build your life back.
2.
Totally agree. There were some outstanding interpretations.
+1 I've still got Skol's to listen to, but what I've heard so far from the entries has been nothing short of superb.
3. Brown paper bag is fun to play on the lekky bass. Try it & see if it works. How about a bit of Morcheeba? Hard to choose one song though. +1 to Bjork. Army of me has a cracking bassline & if you've got a dirt & filter pedal (with expression), then you can have even more fun.
4. Turning Japanese by The Vapors. No points for guessing.
5. Other than the intro, the main body of the song is root notes with incidentals. When it first came out, I had the album & the book of score to go with it. Used to be able to play the whole album from start to finish on the bass.
6. How do you get on with the rest of the band? Have you discussed it with them to see what they want to do? Why don't you & the singer start a side project with another guitarist & then after a couple of weeks ask the keys player to join & then invite the drummer a week later. Slowly displacing the old band. I did this in a previous band.
7.
Yes you are right. I'll try and do it tomorrow morning.
Of course I'm right. The only time I'm not right is when I try to tell the wife I'm right!
8. It's not a riff, it's hi hats. When the guitar comes in doing the 8th chug & then roll them off again when the guitar stops. Saying that, I like it how it is. Nice work.
9. I always found for the input gain, play whatever you play loudest (usually plectrum or slap) & increase the input gain until it clips, then back it off a touch.
10. You've both sold it to me! I'm gonna have a listen after work. Edited as there is now another entry that sells too!
11.
Just as well you don't live in Wales then,,,
I tried that. The sound had too much of a mid hump for my liking.
12. Cheers for that. I enjoy remixing & been wanting to try some video to music, so this is right up my alley. I don't hold any hopes of winning as I think that's more likely to go to someone who knows what they're doing with video & audio. But it's the fun that counts for me.
13. I changed mine a couple of years ago because I snapped a string. I play flats, so hopefully I'll not need to change them for a good few years.
14. Find a good paint supply shop. They should be able mix your colour to match the bass.
15.
1) Sous le ciel de Paris. It's an old Piaf number but there's a modern Latin feel version by Zaz that absolutely makes me grin each time I play this on acoustic guitar. 2) Ya mo be there (on bass) I guess it's just the groove on this one.
That's a very similar bassline to I Can't Go For That, which is another song I enjoy playing.
16. What songs do you find great fun to play? Doesn't matter if you play it in a band or just on your own, just as long as you find it gives you satisfaction & a smile. Two that I love playing along to are Wynona's Big Brown Beaver by Primus & Hit Me by The Blockheads (the latter probably enjoyed by most on BC. I'd never payed attention to it until I joined here). I don't think I could hold Hit Me in a band as the BPM is just that wee bit out of my reach to keep consistent, but Wynona's BBB I would love to play with a band. I also like playing a solo arrangement I made of Fur Elise, but that never gets played outside home or rehearsal room.
17. Ok, I've got mine done. Had to make a new Soundcloud account too! Sit back & relax https://soundcloud.com/gxmix/citra-bc
18. I'd consider taking it back to where you bought it & ask for a replacement or a refund. Not fit for purpose if it's only lasted 4 months.
19. That Alembic looks like a good bit of kit. My shout for an LPF would be the Moog MF-101.
20. You can use an octaver & roll the top off your bass with the bass' & amp's tone controls. If it's for dub though, you're better with a low pass filter.
21. If £95 is affordable, then Mark Studio 2 is worth a look. You said "some Apple software has this". If it's a Mac that you have, then GarageBand has a simple version & Logic has the very thing you asked for (it's £150, but if you have a Mac, well worth it).
22. Welcome to my world. When I was trying to start a band, I found all the guitarists are in to metal & all the singers are into stereophonics/Coldplay type drivel. There's no other musicians to be found. I did eventually join an electronica band, but that lasted only a couple of months. After a break from playing bass, I've now had a jam with 3 great musicians & guess what we played?
Rock covers. Voodoo Chile & How Many More Times! Though most of the jam was just that, a jam. Not playing anyone's songs.
23. I've made a start on mine too. Hope to get somewhere with it this week.
