Is the BH800 800 watt or is it like the RH750 which is 236 watt? I'd try them all & get the one you prefer.

1/2 the fun of a pedal board is changing pedal order to get the sound to your liking. When I used fx, I had my signal split & put distortion on the mid & treble only, keeping the low end free of it, though there was a slight amount of drive on the lows too.
That's what to call it when the Good Lady catches you with your old chap in your hand!
Fine if you play with a pick.
The problem with iPad apps IMO isn't the app or the iPad but it's connections to the outside world which simply isn't robust enough to stand up to gigging. It seems to me that the better the technology and applications get, the worse the hardware for connecting them together becomes. Back in the days of dedicated hardware samplers, synths and sequencers, MIDI and SCSI might have been a bit of a dark art when it came to getting the devices to talk to each other, but the cables and connectors were a lot more sturdy and gig proof.
That's true. Just sold an Akai S3000XL that was made in 96 & all the sockets on it are better quality than what you get on most high end products today.

Wowzers! I actually came joint 1st!!! Bilbo's is the better song (by a long way), so he should really be choosing the image. I'll confer with him later. Gotta get ready for work.

Before you spend any money, try sticking Alchemy on your iPad. It's a free synth & you can buy upgrades for it if you need them. Worth a download to see if it'll run ok on your iPad. I've got an iPad 3 that's now running a bit slow, but there's no issues with Alchemy on it. If you want even semi convincing pianos or strings on a stand alone synth, you might need to increase your budget to about £200+.

I had the Bass MuRF as part of my set up along with the MF-101. Brilliant pedal for routing things. Highly missed here. Here's a couple of things I did using it... https://soundcloud.com/xgsjx/death-of-a-jazz-club A long mess about with the Bass Murf. http://youtu.be/jisrnigFkAw And a longer video with other fx. http://youtu.be/Z73FWmWNQbA

I didn't mind that song. Not a lover or hater of Simply Red, but they do have some good grooves & Fugly bloke is a great singist. My 80s were more stuff like Talking Heads, Jean Michel Jarre, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, The Cure & Marillion.

I haven't tried the GK that you're looking at, but I did try the GK 700ii 2x10 combo & had the MB 2x10 combo for 6 years. It's the MarkBass for me. I played all styles of music from Rock to Americana to Electronica & The MB did the job perfectly. Not sure what the newer MBs are like, but the B&C drivers in the older ones are superb. Extremely loud for a 2x10. My advice to you would be to try both with your own bass & choose with your ears.
The problem isn't generally with the interface - USB speeds are more than adequate these days - but with any other equipment you might need to have connected interfering with it. USB is a dumb protocol, and each device connected needs its own driver. Many of these are built into the OS, but the less common types of device have to have their own custom driver installed. A lot of this stuff is designed first and foremost to work on Windows and often (certainly at the budget end of the market) the Mac driver is a quickly thrown together kludge "designed" with little regard to what else it is going to be sharing the bus. Most of the time this won't be a problem, but audio is a lot more sensitive. Having a hub makes little difference because all the devices on the hub are still all on the same bus. If you don't have any other equipment connected by USB (or at least nothing that isn't directly supported by the OS) other than the interface you should be OK, but personally I'd always pick a FireWire or Thunderbolt audio interface over a USB one.
Cheers for the advice. I don't use the USB ports for anything other than a Bamboo tablet (which isn't used for music) or for backing up iOS devices. My iMac is only a few months old, but according to the USB info on the "About this Mac", it''s a single bus with a 4 way hub. I've not looked at the Macbook Pro & it might be a different story. It has 2 USB ports & 2 Thunderbolt ports, but it's the iMac that's the dedicated DAW. As I'll be getting a remote keyboard later, it might be worth paying the extra for the Thunderbolt interface (Zoom TAC-2).

I was just looking at the Tascam. Fits the bill nicely. I still like the idea that the Presonus can be plugged into an iOS device, which would mean I can use the iPad as an amp simulator & fx unit for my bass. It's now gonna be a later date that I get it anyway, so plenty of time to find loads of info.
If this is for a Mac, I wouldn't recommend USB unless you can connect the interface to its own bus with nothing else connected. Bear in mind that depending on the spec of the Mac separate USB sockets do not necessarily indicate separate USB busses.
I think it's just the one bus. Will the interface not work on a hub?

I have a 3.5 to 2 1/4 jacks that I got from Maplin. I ended up replacing all the jacks on it as they were moulded rubbish.

I'm now in a position to get myself an audio interface, but with so many out there, which one should I go for? Ideally, I want to have at least 2 in (most are), have a good sound quality & also have midi jacks (so I can use my keyboard to play VSTis). My budget is @ £100 (preferably less, but can go a little above). I had been set on the Steinberg UR22 as it meets most of the criteria, but after further investigation, it appears that although it has a nice solid case, the sockets, knobs & buttons on the front are a bit on the flimsy side. There's the obvious choice of the Focusrite 2i4 as it, like the Steinberg, has all that I need & seems to be of a better build quality. But, this would most likely need to be a 2nd hand one as new is just outside my budget. I've also saw the Behringer UMC204, which is also similar to those above, but bearing the stamp of Berhinger, I'm not sure what the actual sound quality is going to be like compared to the other interfaces. Then I've found a new contender that ticks the above & also has an added feature - I can use it with my iPad. The Presonus iTwo, which I can get new for £106 (which is just in my budget. I don't need the DAW which comes with any of these (though I might see about putting any instruments into Logic). The Presonus does seem to sway me on features & build quality, but how good is the sound quality? There's also an outsider that it over budget & tempted to wait until next month for... The Zoom Tac-2. It doesn't have midi, but unlike the above interfaces, it uses thunderbolt instead of USB & it has come down massively in price. Question is... is it better sounding than the USB? Does thunderbolt make a difference when it comes to audio quality or are those Is & 0s getting there just the same? Help!

Did you hear about the 2 jihadi drummers? Boom Boom!

Before you do get an interface, check if it might be the effects that you are using or the sound quality setting in Reaper.

The idea of the subscription is good. I do it with Adobe for Photoshop, Lightroom & Illustrator, but it works out a much cheaper option with Adobe than it would be to buy those.
-
I looked into the Pro Tools subscription before getting Logic. One thing that sucks is it's $25 in th US, but it's not a straight convert that to Sterling, they skin you £19.99 (rip off Britain came back to mind when I found out). So you need to work out which is going to be the more viable... Paying £240 a year or buying it outright? I registered for PT Express (the free version) about 3 months ago & they sent me an email last month with a link. It made me happy to have chosen Logic. BTW, there's a bit of software you can download that will let you use the Apple AUs in PT (I didn't bother as PTE is lame).
Yup, but the fact that I woke up this morning is the ultimate in good news as far as I'm concerned.
You make a very good point!

I'd play your 2 favourite songs that you know how to play comfortably that you think would suit female vocals. Maybe something a little different from what they usually play, but not too much different in style.

I never listen to music except from when I'm laying in bed, or walking to/from work, driving the car or working on a song. I never just sit & actually listen to an album though. Need a decent hifi for that.

I've been playing music since I was a kid. Took up bass when I was 13 & played in quite a few bands. The last good band I was in was fun & had really good musicians. Unfortunately the singer took a stroke, the drummer moved abroad & I never see the other guys. That was a good few years back. I tried to get a band up here in Perth, but found it very hard to get any actual musicians. Plenty folk who play metal on a guitar or sing at the karaoke wanting to join, but none who actually know much about music, being in a band or able to play at a decent level. I stopped last year. I'd already quite trying to get a band that could gig a few months before I decided to give up being a bassist. I'm still a musician, but everything I do is at home & for the past few months, it's just been using computer instruments. Funnily enough, a chap at work has asked if I want to play bass in a band he is starting that is just for fun & probably not to gig. We're gonna give it a blast next week. I've no gear apart from my bass (sold the lot, most on here), but the rooms are plug n play.

I gave up because bass was taking up everything & was becoming an obsession. All I could focus on was what to do with bass & it was becoming too much of an idol. Something that tipped it as well was that I was getting frustrated at inadequate musicians. Trying to get a band that could play in time & not want to cover crap songs was hard work!
