1. I use my iPad for composing. Tabletop is a great free app that you can add 3rd party instruments to (such as Akai MPC) & I actually paid £30 for Korg Gadget, which is a great fun app with some complex abilities (like automation of just about every parameter & you can export the stems to your desktop). GarageBand is a great app too.
2.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vt016gTNp_k
Don't polish the stage before the gig.
3.
Or anything by Lost Prophets...
Now then, now then!
4.
... That said, I was talking to a DJ at a wedding venue recently, and he was telling me that at a recent wedding, he put on some MJ as a request, and a big lad came up within seconds and told him to take it off, "Or else". His point of view was that there were kids at the wedding and he shouldn't be playing anything "by that f**king paedo".
If I was the DJ, I would have said that MJ wasn't convicted & found innocent. Glad he never got a request for "Wanna be in my gang"!
5. From the title, I thought that Milty had been to Neverland.
6. My last gigging band were all pretty tidy when it came to cables. We had looms for multiple wires going to the one place. If you're no good at keeping tidy, may I suggest a couple of rugs to lay over the mess on stage. Just make sure you flatten out the spaghetti first.

What about an Ampeg SVT 8x10? I liked the MarkBass 102STD 2x10. Quite an uncoloured sound, though I think there's maybe a slight mid hump. Most Barefaced cabs are "get out what you put in", but the only 2x10 they do is the Retro Two10, which apparently has a rather retro sound to it (weird that).
8.
Top stuff..!
Thank you kindly.
9. Here's my entry... https://soundcloud.com/xgsjx/nautical-disco-funk Needless to say, the wave won.
10.
Sounds like hard work. I'll give it a bash though.
It's surprisingly easy. This chap explains the pitch side really well & to make a harmony, you just make a duplicate track & copy which vocal parts you want, open the editor & drag the pitch up. Then if you want the notes on say, Bb to be on B, click the Bb key on the piano roll & then click one of the highlighted notes & drag it up to B. All of them move. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSEWEpHUh3w
11. I used it on this song to speed the original vocal up from 100 bpm to 124 bpm & then changed the pitch to make a female harmony up a major 3rd & adjusted the notes to fit the scale & also alter some of the notes to a different interval. I'm not happy with the bass sound though. Sounds cheap. Edit: Just realised I posted the same track in this thread a couple of posts up! Deleted the link in this thread, so scroll up.
12.
wow!!!! Didn't know that worked. I think I tried it once on a mic'd guitar but the guitar track remained the same and the rest sped up. Must give it another try it would be really useful.
in Logic it's called Flex editing. I use it on vocals as not only can you change the speed, you can the change pitch of each individual note.
13. This isn't my entry, as it's not my track, but one that I've remixed. But it would have fitted the theme for the possible aftermath. https://soundcloud.com/xgsjx/on-the-beach-gx-mix I've made a start, just need to get working on it now.
14. I used to find walking up to the sound engineer, twisting his nipple & asking him to whistle remedied a lot of sound issues.
15. I'd say go to a shop & try some. My choice is the 2x10 STD.
16.
I noticed the inside of my old Midget was not brilliant...
I hope that's either a Barefaced cab or an MG car you're talking about?
17.
Personally, im starting ti think that all modulation effects should have expression pedal inputs for the modulation parameters as ive yet to find (exclusing subtle chorus) an effect that can be constantly on and/or not sound Bizzare when activated mid song.
You mean like a Moog?
18. Another for Moog. Try the Bass Murf or Midi Murf as well. They do swirly, tremmy & rhythmic (& dirt, all at the same time if you like too).
19. Ohms works the opposite way around from what you initially thought it did.
20. Kong are the only company that I know that regularly do keys in colours other than standard white with black. Back in the 80s when I was a kid, I did put red insulating tape on the white keys of one of my keyboards. Looked good from a short distance, but from a player's eye, it was keys covered in insulation tape. You could take the keys off & spray them. You'd need to key them with some sandpaper to get paint to stick & you'd probably have to do a very thin coat so they don't jam off one another (so the paint may only last a short while before needing rubbed down & repainted), but it can be done. These guys do some cool custom jobs, but nothing in the way of changing key colour. http://www.customsynth.co.uk/index.html
21. Oooh! I like that. Just need to come up with a choon to fit!
22. I'm another who's had a few long breaks from playing & came back to it like I'd never been away. It is possible at your age to forget how to play though. Dementia mid gig would suck!
23.
The thing about flats is....I play a fair bit of slap, and they're allegedly not much use for slap. I'll give them a shot though, because I'm curious.
D'Addario Chromes are a bright flatwound & get a good sound for slapping & they're among the cheapest decent flats you can get. However, I had no problems getting a good sound out of Thomastik Infeld Jazz 344s. The only way to get better at loud volume is with band practice. Some of those sounds actually add to the overall sound too!
