1.
Because I've got a desktop at home running 5 ssd's and only fancy having one home computer in the house no matter what I'm doing If you can point out a mac that'll do full audio processing for a couple of hundred £ then please point one out!
That's a fair point. I sold my old iMac for £200. It was 8 years old, but it was still a great spec'd machine by even todays standards. It had a 2,8 processor & 2 gb ram (which could be upped to 8). 500gb HD & 24" screen too. Add an audio interface & Logic & I'm pretty sure it'd make an excellent music machine.
2. That's me just downloaded Logic. Bedtime now, so I'll play with it tomorrow.
3. Done another remix. I'm impressed that this is using Garageband! Wonderland
4.
Do people still try that? I haven't heard that term for about 10 years!
Some folk still do. Don't know why though when you can buy a 2nd hand mac that'll amply do the job for a couple of hundred £.
5. Now I want Reason And Logic! Completely forgot that you can flip the rack & wire things up. I played with the CV on it all the time. Got some great rhythmic sounds that I'd otherwise never have come up with.
6.
I'm with ProTools these days because I don't have a mac... thinking of getting reason for the midi side of things and writing these days...
Reason is a great piece of kit. I had it up to 2.5 back in the day, move from PC to Mac & never updated it. The latest incarnations are pretty powerful. I've been tempted by it many times, but with Logic being £150, it's a no brainer.
7. Thanks guys. I think my mind's made up & Logic it is. I've watched many videos too & it seems the biz. I did last night however, see that Arturia ship Keylab Producer Pack, which comes with a DAW called Bigwig Studio, which looks quite good. Sticking to getting LPX.

Octaver

I had an OC-3. Put through a bit of dirt & a moog filter, it makes a great sub synth sound.
9. I've used it as a mono line out. Worked fine. It's just a mono jack socket, plugging your stereo headphones in means you'll get sound to one side only as there'll be no connection to the "ring" on the TRS jack. You can plug them in, but I don't think it'll be very loud.
10. Proof that watts don't make volume, it's the volume knob! When I gigged, My practice rig was whatever my gigging rig was.
11. Bare in mind that not all 12" loaded cabs sound the same. A Bergantino doesn't sound like a Markbass. Though I'm pretty sure it'll still impress. A bit like saying I want to try a bass with 5 strings.

Velcro or ?

Heavy Duty Velcro is probably the neatest & simplest option. It's seriously grippy too, as in too much & it's a job to get a pedal off the board.
13. If anyone says "it should be this order", report them. It's really down to personal preference. I like octave first, then splitting the signal so you get some clean lows & then add effects to the othe channel. Me, I liked the dirt before the filter so I could blend it in with my foot & get great synth like sounds, but that might not be your cuppa. Paying about with fx is half the fun.
14. I had to do the same search to see if it was a one off. Ok, he's a bit further down the list on the iPad.
15. Best advice I can give is go to a shop & try both. Like logo says though, 2 2x10s gives you a modular 4x10. The big benefit being that you can stack vertically for better dispersion & get the sound at ear level too. Try the STD 102 cabs.
16. I had the cmd102p. Brilliant combo that's not shy on volume or sound quality. The STD102 cab is the same as the combo, less the head, so that's what I'd have added, both stacked vertically.
17. iLok does seem like a bit of a useless thing. I thought I'd try the demo of PT, but to get the demo you need an ilok! So £35 to run a demo for a month? There's a free version of PT, but to get that you have to register & then they'll email you when your download is ready. What's that all about? It's a bit of software, not a physical lump of matter that they have to make!
18. It's down to cab size rather than driver size. If you've not got the lows, try the 102 STD cabs. Bigger cabs = bigger lows with the Markbass cabs.
19. Billy was my biggest inspiration growing up. The only thing you need to do for tapping is to make sure you don't scoop the mids. You don't need any fx or compression, but if using any, I would say a bit of dirt is all that's needed.
20. Cheers. I'm finding out how good GarageBand actually is.
21. I've remixed a song in GarageBand & it's come out much better than I expected it could. The vocals are the only wav files in the track, all the rest is VSTs (and free ones at that). I was given some midi tracks with the vocals for the chord sequence, some of the baseline & some of the melody, but no sounds. What do you think? https://soundcloud.com/xgsjx/hurricane-gx-house-remix It's for a competition, but I've really just done it for fun. I might as well enter it though.
22. A 4 ohm cab means you can use just 1 cab with an amp with a min load of 4 ohms, an 8 ohm means you can add a 2nd at a later date. As for sound/volume, there's next to nothing in it. If your amp's a 2 ohm min load, then it may make sense to go for the 4 ohm cab.
23. I've been remixing a song in GarageBand with it providing all the instruments via VSTs. Still working on it, but I'm happy with the sound. So I think Logic would be the logical step. https://soundcloud.com/xgsjx/hurricane-g-house-remix-3/s-87v4F
24.
A lot of people have told me that ProTools is more about recording audio, and Logic is more about midi. I only record audio, but still prefer Logic.
That's what I'd been reading, that Logic handled midi better & Pro Tools for audio, so it's good to hear that you prefer Logic for audio.
