You have been given £700 for pedals only. What next?
xgsjx replied to ChunkyMunky's topic in Effects
maybe these? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UNIVERSAL-HYDRAULIC-FLOOR-MOUNTED-ADJUSTABLE-BIAS-PEDAL-BOX-100-Aluminium/291344451218?_trksid=p2141725.c100338.m3726&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20141212152715%26meid%3D8c1ec4afbfd645f49b118e5cf32410c8%26pid%3D100338%26rk%3D7%26rkt%3D30%26sd%3D291331971669 -
Setting up vocal PA shouldn't take too long, but I'd still get in touch with the other bands & see if they want to chip in to hiring one decent set of cabs, stands & powered mic mixer.
-
Are you sure you've read the info correctly? Sounds to me it's a "Battle for the bands". PA takes a bit more setting up than your bass rig. If your boy really wants to do this gig & there is no PA, then I'd ask for info on who the other bands are & see about collaborating on the PA.

Why 2 different cabs?
-
He's paying homage to the ohmage. As for cabs, I think you'll find a really good 2x10 could shift some serious air. If you're worried, get a good 2x12. The MarkBass 2x10 I had, far exceeded the Trace Elliott 4x10 I had prior.

Looking for a little advice about which type of amp is suited to me
xgsjx replied to Naetharu's topic in Amps and Cabs
£3-400 on the head gives you a decent selection of amps. How much on the cab? -
2 I hear often at weddings are Band of Gold (a song about breaking up) and Every Breath You Take (a song about a stalker).

Any suggestions of good simple basslines to learn?
Ummmm, hmmmm. No
Shocking! I thought everyone who picked up a bass as a kid would have played just a bit of it (even just the once). -
Just sold my iMac to Deek. As he lives just down the road from me, I got out the house & took it down to him. A pleasure to meet him & a thoroughly nice chap. Like the sort of person that makes BC a great place. I'd happily buy from or sell to him anytime.
Graeme - iMac is running Yosemite like a champ. Huge thanks for bringing it down to me. And I hope you had something nice for tea! All the best Deek.
Excellent. It was a pleasure & a good reason to get out for a wee drive. We ended up in Nando's. Hope you got out for something too. -
Ok was basing this on concert footage where he uses a and d but its up to you really
I've seen it played both ways (by AC too). When I was learning it back in the early 80's, I had a VHS & a band transcription book (Live at Red Rocks) & was shown as being on the E & A strings. No tinter web back then. -
Me. I never learnt how to play The Chain
You never heard the bass at the start of F1 & thought "oooh, I'm gonna try that"? Shocking! -
A and D strings surely ?
Nope. When I learned it, it was played up the dusty end starting on the 17th so it's easy to play the one open A at the end of the 1st bar & the open E at the end of the 3rd. -

The first bassline I ever played was The Chain by Fleetwood Mac (is there a bassist who hasn't? ), but the first full song I learned was New Years Day by U2. Nice simple bassline that only uses the E & A strings, but sounds a good bit harder. -
What about a 2nd hand Genz Benz Contour? I think they go for about £200-250.
Do you have one of those sucker type phone holders in your car? If so, sucker it onto the screen and gently pull. The "glass" is held on by magnets around the edges. Once you've go it off, I imagine you'll be able to easily clean the inside of the glass with a bit of Mr Muscle window cleaner. That is almost certainly where the tinge is hiding. I had a similar thing happen on my iMac. There are videos on youtube showing the fix.
Oooh! I never thought about that. I'll have a look at the vids. Cheers -
I'm selling my mid 2007, 24" iMac which is in almost mint condition. Unknown to me at the time of purchase back in November 2007, the screen has a yellow tinge and by the time I realised, it was too late to have it fixed under warranty. The yellow tinge does not affect the actual performance of the iMac and unless you intend on using this for design purposes, it's not that bad - see the photo of the screen at boot up. I've edited many photos on it & never realised there was a tint! Other than the screen issue, the unit is in mint condition, with no scratches or defects and still works as well as it did the day I bought it. I have wiped the hard drive and installed the original Tiger operating system, but the disk for Leopard is included with this device. Before I wiped it, I had it running Mavericks and did slow it down, however this is probably because it only has 2GB of RAM - upgrading the RAM would improve this considerably. Specification: Apple iMac 24-Inch (mid 2007) 1920x1200 Native Resolution Core 2 Extreme 2.8GHz 500GB HDD SATA (3Gb/s) Radeon HD 2600 PRO Video Card 2GB 667MHz PC2-5300 DDR2 iMac 7.1 EMC Number 2134 Apple 8X DL Superdrive Apple Aluminium Keyboard Cat ate the mouse, so you'll need to buy your own. Still a pretty decent spec today & has no problems running Reaper or most other music software. If you're looking for a good entry into a low cost home recording set up, You won't be disappointed. GarageBand comes free with OSX as standard & if you can't afford an audio interface, you can simply make a cable with 6.4mm mono Jack wired to one side of a 3.5mm stereo jack & plug straight into the Mac. This actually gave me a better quality than using an Alesis interface. I can post for @ £20. If you click on either of those pics, it'll take you to my Flickr page where the majority of the pics were edited on that very iMac (from "Sun at my fingertips" & earlier). Here's one of my fave tracks that I made on it with Garageband & my bass. https://soundcloud.c...part-1-all-bass Any questions, just ask.

I'm considering one of those too, so that's handy info. Cheers such for asking that Q & to Dad for answering it.

A big well done to all who has entered. I just couldn't get anything done. Wasn't getting in the cowboy feel either. Gonna have a listen to the tracks in a bit & vote.
If I've just picked up the guitar for a strum for some reason, I use my nail, if I'm playing guitar at a gig then I use a plectrum. I find a pick a slightly clumsy tool for guitar.
Good point. Literally!

I had a little hiss from the piezo on mine too. Turning the treble back a touch or the VLE on a touch gets rid of it. The other options are disconnect the piezo or replace it with a better one. I never used the VPF at gigs, but did mess about with it at home. Found the best way to sit the combo at gigs was on it's side. Have fun.
-
If you can, go for the 1x15 combo with the 1x15 ext cab. The reason being that if you're using 2 different sized drivers, you're letting yourself in for dead spots across the audience (unless you have them so one is just producing lows & the other mids & highs) and other things. The reason 12's are a popular choice is that they have a better dispersion than a 15 & usually have a smaller footprint. A good 2x12 setup is gonna be loud enough for most venues (though I found a good 2x10 covered all I needed).

Find a shop that sells both & ask to take your rig along.

Just had a look at what I do. I hold my index finger between my thumb & middle finger as if I were holding a pick made out of my index finger.
Incidentally, we often see '16th notes', or '8th notes'; should these not be semi-quavers and quavers..? 8ths and 16ths would only be true if referred to 4/4 time; the equivalent for 3/4 would be 12th and 6th notes, no..? Is this just another Americanism taking over..? In French, a quaver is a 'croche', a semiquaver a 'double croche', then follows 'triple croche' and 'quadruple croche' etc, whatever the time signature, none of this Yankee stuff.
It should be, but there's many musicians who may be very good musicians, but have poor musical terminology.
