What about a 2nd hand Genz Benz Contour? I think they go for about £200-250.

2007 24" iMac 2.8 ghz - SOLD
Do you have one of those sucker type phone holders in your car? If so, sucker it onto the screen and gently pull. The "glass" is held on by magnets around the edges. Once you've go it off, I imagine you'll be able to easily clean the inside of the glass with a bit of Mr Muscle window cleaner. That is almost certainly where the tinge is hiding. I had a similar thing happen on my iMac. There are videos on youtube showing the fix.
Oooh! I never thought about that. I'll have a look at the vids. Cheers -
I'm selling my mid 2007, 24" iMac which is in almost mint condition. Unknown to me at the time of purchase back in November 2007, the screen has a yellow tinge and by the time I realised, it was too late to have it fixed under warranty. The yellow tinge does not affect the actual performance of the iMac and unless you intend on using this for design purposes, it's not that bad - see the photo of the screen at boot up. I've edited many photos on it & never realised there was a tint! Other than the screen issue, the unit is in mint condition, with no scratches or defects and still works as well as it did the day I bought it. I have wiped the hard drive and installed the original Tiger operating system, but the disk for Leopard is included with this device. Before I wiped it, I had it running Mavericks and did slow it down, however this is probably because it only has 2GB of RAM - upgrading the RAM would improve this considerably. Specification: Apple iMac 24-Inch (mid 2007) 1920x1200 Native Resolution Core 2 Extreme 2.8GHz 500GB HDD SATA (3Gb/s) Radeon HD 2600 PRO Video Card 2GB 667MHz PC2-5300 DDR2 iMac 7.1 EMC Number 2134 Apple 8X DL Superdrive Apple Aluminium Keyboard Cat ate the mouse, so you'll need to buy your own. Still a pretty decent spec today & has no problems running Reaper or most other music software. If you're looking for a good entry into a low cost home recording set up, You won't be disappointed. GarageBand comes free with OSX as standard & if you can't afford an audio interface, you can simply make a cable with 6.4mm mono Jack wired to one side of a 3.5mm stereo jack & plug straight into the Mac. This actually gave me a better quality than using an Alesis interface. I can post for @ £20. If you click on either of those pics, it'll take you to my Flickr page where the majority of the pics were edited on that very iMac (from "Sun at my fingertips" & earlier). Here's one of my fave tracks that I made on it with Garageband & my bass. https://soundcloud.c...part-1-all-bass Any questions, just ask.

I'm considering one of those too, so that's handy info. Cheers such for asking that Q & to Dad for answering it.

A big well done to all who has entered. I just couldn't get anything done. Wasn't getting in the cowboy feel either. Gonna have a listen to the tracks in a bit & vote.
If I've just picked up the guitar for a strum for some reason, I use my nail, if I'm playing guitar at a gig then I use a plectrum. I find a pick a slightly clumsy tool for guitar.
Good point. Literally!
-
I had a little hiss from the piezo on mine too. Turning the treble back a touch or the VLE on a touch gets rid of it. The other options are disconnect the piezo or replace it with a better one. I never used the VPF at gigs, but did mess about with it at home. Found the best way to sit the combo at gigs was on it's side. Have fun.

If you can, go for the 1x15 combo with the 1x15 ext cab. The reason being that if you're using 2 different sized drivers, you're letting yourself in for dead spots across the audience (unless you have them so one is just producing lows & the other mids & highs) and other things. The reason 12's are a popular choice is that they have a better dispersion than a 15 & usually have a smaller footprint. A good 2x12 setup is gonna be loud enough for most venues (though I found a good 2x10 covered all I needed).

Find a shop that sells both & ask to take your rig along.

Just had a look at what I do. I hold my index finger between my thumb & middle finger as if I were holding a pick made out of my index finger.
Incidentally, we often see '16th notes', or '8th notes'; should these not be semi-quavers and quavers..? 8ths and 16ths would only be true if referred to 4/4 time; the equivalent for 3/4 would be 12th and 6th notes, no..? Is this just another Americanism taking over..? In French, a quaver is a 'croche', a semiquaver a 'double croche', then follows 'triple croche' and 'quadruple croche' etc, whatever the time signature, none of this Yankee stuff.
It should be, but there's many musicians who may be very good musicians, but have poor musical terminology.
Same here. I really struggled using a pick so now I pick with no pick! I use my first finger and thumb as though I'm holding a pick but pick the notes with my nail for the downstroke and fleshy/end part of my finger for the upstroke. Works really well and feels more 'connected' to the fretboard than if using a pick. (Found that quite hard to explain!)
I find I play my acoustic 6 string like that whenever I'm not fingerpicking. Still use a pick on the bass though.

Here's a good example of double thumbing in a song. http://youtu.be/L0fyYBXVaCU
Even so, I try to avoid it now. If it’s not done very well it sounds a bit naff to me, but I also have a strap with a silky finish so it tends to loosen and lower the bass over time & the lower down the bass gets the harder it is to do slap and pull.
I know what you mean. As someone else described it "it sounds like playing bed springs with chopsticks".
-
Another technique I struggle with is my vocal technique when the guitarist is constantly noodling.
If he is playing a #5th (C Bass) over Em, it would make the chord Cmaj7. Ok, next, over to someone else...lol...
That's true if the key is Em. I was going on the chord being Em, with the C being a B#.
-
Ah, but the context is the interval between two notes, not position of either note in a scale. Dropping from C to G is a fourth, and going back up from G to C is also a fourth, no matter what key you're in.
But, if he's playing on an Em, then he's playing the #5th (C) to the minor 3rd (G).
I've been working on two-handed tapping for a while now, I find it hard to get hand independence, maybe I'll learn the piano...
Tapping isn't hard once you get the hang of it & it's not painful in the process. Billy Sheehan suggested putting your middle finger over your index finger. It gives more velocity when practicing & I used this method for a long time.

Just went back to having a try at double thumbing. Is it one of those things that you need to be plugged in to do? I only tried for about 5 mins & the corner of my thumb at the nail is red raw. My ordinary slap technique is pain free as I use part of my thumb near the knuckle, but this double thumbing malarky is painful! I was watching this video & I think it could well be how hard I'm hitting the strings (though I didn't think I was hitting all that hard). http://youtu.be/mrmKLrOQgXY He posts quite regularly on here in the "Techniques" section.
Looks great, but it strikes me that if one of the cables into the back of the amp gets pulled it might flip the amp backwards over the edge. If that seems like a potential risk can you maybe wrap the cable(s) around a handle somewhere?
Yeah. He could put some Velcro on the tray.
-
Double thumbing is my bug bearer just now, but like anything, practice is all that is needed.
-
That's a fantastic find. Looks good too. Heavy Duty Velcro would have no problem holding the amp to the cab, it's unbelievably grippy, but I'd agree that you wouldn't want to stick it on those cabs. The glue on the back is mega strong.

I find it strange that cliffy couldn't get loud enough for his band. I played in a loud band & had no trouble being heard. I'm guessing either he has one really loud band, had it set up poorly, just wasn't suited to his bass or was really unlucky & had 2 faulty units.
-
Adding a cab that isn't the same as the combo (that'll be the 102 STD) is going to change your sound & most likely sound different at different venues. It might sound good, it might not. As for the combo, I had one for many years & only sold it as I'd stopped playing live. If I start again, I'll possibly get another. The Italian built ones were around the £1k mark in the shops & had B&C drivers (no idea what the drivers are now). I think folk are willing to pay for that, knowing that it's a solid built combo. As for sound, it's probably the loudest & best sounding combo I've ever played through. Blew the old TE 4x10 combo back to the 80s.

That's maybe why a few known bands can't be found on spottythigh or pandora. Whereas they may not get much revenue from these sources, all the people mentioned still did all right from downloads & sales (not to mention touring). If you're thinking of money, then that's the wrong reason to start/join a band. If it's for money, then you want to be a promoter.
