  1. Ask the cabinet makers which driver specs they used when modelling the cab. If they can't answer that, cancel the order.
  2. You could change those casters for wheels & pop a V8 in there!
  3. Post a link to the Flickr page & I'll do it for you.
  4. To counter the love hate thing, what songs do you love playing? One I can play & play & never get bored of is Use Me by Bill Withers. Not just sitting on the original bassline, but playing about with it (like incorporating part of the keys with it). The amount of groove it generates is just so much fun. That's just the first that comes to mind. Soooo... What covers do you love to play?
  5. [quote name='bootsy666' timestamp='1430157620' post='2758505'] It won't let me upload any photos again? It says I've reached my limit before I've even selected a photo? [/quote] The best thing to do for pics is to upload them to a photo site (such as Flickr), copy the BBCode & paste it in the message. Just like I did in my spoiler, or like everyone does in the photo comp.
  6. Get a sampler & sample the first 5 seconds. You could get a dedicated sampler such as an old Akai S950 for about £30 & trigger it with a foot controller, or you could get a stomp box such as a looper or even a multi fx pedal (my old Zoom had a sampler/looper that could sample up to 30 seconds, they can be picked up for peanuts). If you've got an iPad, you could install an app such as Akai MPC & sample the song from your iTunes library (put the song on your iPad). Set the BPM in MPC to match the song, then make a pattern that lasts however long you want & plays the intro twice & stop it as it starts to play the 2nd sample (it should still finish the sample if set to "One Shot". Now you take a cable from your iPad to the desk/amp, you're good to go.
  7. Nah, gotta be the smallest loudest class D head you can find. One extreme to the other.
  8. [quote name='DanH71' timestamp='1429977026' post='2756899'] Thanks sgxas but is a 210 light enough to lug around on/off public transport? [/quote] Fair point. The 2x10 I had was just 19kgs (Markbass 2x10 combo), but maybe a little large for lugging about on public transport. The traveller 2x10 gets good reviews from the owners of them on here & it's much smaller & lighter. I'd look at Alex's Super Midget though. If I ever get back to playing, I'd be considering a Barefaced cab.
  9. A good 2x10 will cover small to mid sized gigs with ease. I used a Markbass 2x10 that had no stress whatsoever.
  10. I heard a cover recently of Depeche Mode's I Feel You. Johnny Marr successfully made an excellent song sound like Oasis! That's the type of vocals that sound worst to me, Gallagher, Weller & all those other 90s indie sounding blokes.
  11. What about a 16 x 8? You could have 3 vertical rows of 4 with the 2 outside rows filtered & put the other 4 above in pairs but angled out enough to increase the dispersion to reach almost right round the cab (making it virtually impossible to go off axis). Basically a cab that can cover back line, foldback and fill a large venue for the gigs that have no PA for the bass to go through. Many of my gigs was like this.
  12. [quote name='Guinness21' timestamp='1429659830' post='2753789'] I've only tried the couple, one being the Markbass Traveler 121h, but I'm trying to plan ahead so I can get the most out of one visit to a specific shop. It's a bit o fa treck. [/quote] That's a sensible plan. Might be worth checking to see if there's a bass bash local to you.
  13. Have you tried any cabs yet? If not, grab your amp & bass & go try some.
  14. It's best to find the cab that you like & then add another the same if you need more decibels. The STD 102 is a bigger cab than the traveller, allowing it to audibly produce a bit more depth to the lows (aka it goes lower in the Hz).
  15. Here's my entry. I saw a bunch of Russians having an after party get together. Has the guy on the far right of the main crowd got an extra long smoke, and did it get passed to him from the smaller gathering that's just below him? They look wrecked! So... The Retreat. https://soundcloud.com/xgsjx/the-retreat Had I more time, I would have liked to added more lyrical ramblings & messed about with effects.
  16. Did the manager realise that when e venue fills up, the band will sound a lot quieter? If the person can make or break gigs for you, work with them, if they can't, then do as you please. I played a beer festival several years ago where we were the only band (well, there was 2 bands, but I was the bassist in both). A woman & her 2 kids sat right at the front, about 8 foot from the front of my rig. First song & she said "you're way too loud, can you turn it down". I explained that she was sat right in front of the speakers & moving to a different table would be much quieter. She wasn't happy, so I turned down a little. Another song in & the organisers came over and asked us to turn up, a lot. She wasn't happy & complained to the organisers who then gave her a nice seat at the back. At the end of the first break, she came over & complimented the band.
  17. Mine's almost done. Hopefully get it posted in the next couple of days.
  18. Did the shop fob you off regarding the LM3 or did they send it to MarkBass?
  19. I thought you was going to talk about using a pick & fingers together. Some songs suit fingers, some pick & some even suit a bit of slap (I kid you not). Use whatever works & laugh at the ignorance of those who diss using more than 1.
  20. Most Abba songs. I can't fault the songwriting, but the overall finished songs make me want to vomit. Ironically, I went & saw Mamma Mia in the cinema & thoroughly enjoyed it! Must be the original vocals that do it.
  21. No More Nails? Should stick it solidly. Another option would be heavy duty Velcro. You'll be surprised what this can hold.
  22. If you've got good musicians, jamming can be great fun & very rewarding. It's a good way to practice techniques in a band situation & some Great songs start life as a jam. If there's a singer/musician that you can follow, then that makes things easy. It can help to take a couple of simple songs to deconstruct (Use Me by Bill Withers is a great jamming track as it's just a groove over 2 chords). The important part... Have Fun
  23. You're in a good place to find out about fx. You'll learn a lot just from reading posts. Re the OC3, an octave up would have been a good feature for it. If I went back to playing live, I'd most likely go for another OC3 or even an OC2 with dirt & low pass filter after it. Altenitavely, I'd go for some ipad apps & a usb pedal board.
  24. [quote name='tauzero' timestamp='1428586434' post='2742719'] Don't tell Martin Peterson, he only charges £100 for that. And he doesn't charge extra for fretlessness. [/quote] Sei basses are very nice. I considered one a couple of years ago. I've not played a Sei, nor a Fodera (let alone the one in question), but I would still imagine that someone wanting an instrument like the Fodera isn't going to be looking at Sei or Sadowsky.
