I'd 2nd trying out the SV1. Been tempted by it the few times I've played it. Might be worth trying the Roland FA08 too. Not a stage piano, but the piano sounds are fantastic and I found the keybed pretty good. Though it is @ £250 over budget.
But you can roll it in glitter!
But the foundation is still crap. Like has been said, it depends on what sound you want. Are you playing rock, jazz, funk, electronica, punk, RnB or something else? I found an octaver, a filter and a distortion gave me a good sound for playing electronica.

Bandwagon in Perth often have flats in stock, but I got Chromes from strings direct. Bit too late to order for Xmas delivery though.

More people pick up guitar as an instrument than any other & many on the forums are just cheeky kids (affectionately known in Scotland as "wee fannies"). So you can expect a high amount of youngsters on a forum, but better mods on the forums wouldn't go amiss.

It depends on your definition of "reasonably priced". Get to a shop & try a few. See what you like the sound of.

Adding a new cab to my setup, what watt what watt?
xgsjx replied to dumelow's topic in Amps and Cabs
I think this is more to do with the cab's spec & the characteristics of the driver, than the diameter. I had Celestian loaded Marshall 15s some yonks ago. Didn't lack mids or top end, but had nowhere near the lows of what the 10s in the MarkBass produce. -
If an amp lacks phones socket, what options do you have?
xgsjx replied to Samfordia's topic in Amps and Cabs
You couldn't use a multi fx unit for more than a headphone amp? What about the fx or amp modelling? Another option is the iPad with an interface & whatever app you fancy. -
Don't know the name or the brand but looks like you're looking for that same kind of foam that is used on the inside of flight cases or on the bottom of gramma pads.
That's acoustic foam. The stuff they use under drum risers. It's about £10 for a 6' length (which is @ 1 1/2 x 3"). Somewhere like studiospares or dv247 might be able to help with a small sheet for your board.

Band Break-Up Issue (Selling and Splitting the PA)
xgsjx replied to neptunehealer's topic in General Discussion
He is going to give him all the speakers plus £63. If the valuation is correct it means that Neptunehealer is £30 up on the deal due to the guitarists poor logic. But that's assuming the valuation is fair. .

I think he means that the guitarist isn't giving him the value of the speakers in cash, but is giving the OP £63 difference in value between the mixer/amps. Although they should actually be splitting that £63.
That would make more sense. I read it as he was giving him the speakers & if the OP sells them, he can then take the £63 out of that for himself. Which makes no sense at all, but it was the interpretation that I took. -
Band Break-Up Issue (Selling and Splitting the PA)
xgsjx replied to neptunehealer's topic in General Discussion
He isn't giving me the money, he wants to give me the speakers so i have to sell myself.
This bit doesn't add up. If he gives you the tops, the difference between the value of all the cabs & the value of the amps is £63, right? So if you sell them for what he estimates and he sells the amps, then you're £63 down on what he gets. Now you pay yourself £63 out of that??? What make is the sub? -

If you haven't tried any cabs out, go & do so. Like you say, there's so many oh there. So find one that you like & if you find you need more volume, get another identical one. If the cab doesn't have enough bass, adding a different cab isn't the way to go, so choose wisely.

The MarkBass 2x10 is a brilliant combo. Never tried the Fender one, but when I was getting mine, I tried just about every thing there was at around the £1k mark & the MB won on volume and sound quality for me.

High F on the E string? Try starting from E on the A string, it allows easier playing for the rest of the song. I was like Neepheid, band's basslines. I did chuck in The Waking (kurt elling) and some of bach's cello suite no.1, but in D major.

Amplifying bass and bass pedals through the same rig
xgsjx replied to spectoremg's topic in Amps and Cabs
If you use your ears & listen for any driver stress, then it is perfectly doable with your mini mixer. It depends though, on what your cab can handle. If you're using the Moog for sounds that go lower in Hz than the cabs can handle, then you might be wise to either run the Moog through an active PA cab or add a PA sub to your bass rig & keep the lows backed off on the Ashdown. -
Cool, cheers, was still good at 300 watts?
It should be. But don't try perceiving how loud the cab will go in relation to the watts it can handle. That's like trying to guess the top speed of a car based on MPG alone. Look at the DB &/or SPL figures to get an idea of volume (volume is measured in decibels).

Wait until you get it the other way around. In the past I've heard a RHCP song with a melody I wrote 2 years before. A synth melody I did which I later heard as a vocal line on a Franz Ferdinand song & there's a RnB song that had the same bassline as one I did many years before it came out. I dare say every one was a coincidence, but in the back of my mind there's been that "did they hear my track on the web?".
Yes, I have attempted coming up with original songs many times. Results have always been a load of rubbish, socially irrelevant lyrics, marginal melody and structure. You can learn how to do something, but there's those who have the natural skills to put things together well & those who don't. Many folk can be taught how to make cakes. Many don't spend time learning how to finish them well. It's a patience and perseverance thing.

I hate the big muff on guitar. Makes for a muddied undefined noise. I like fuzz on bass, but it needs to go before a low pass filter.

I stopped playing a couple of months back as I can't commit to a band anymore. Had not long joined a really good electronica band too, that we're getting some interest from the local media. Prior to that, I had been in a few different originals bands that did a bit of gigging. Cakes, work & renovating the house are taking my time. I've sold my fx, combo is for sale, but I'm not selling the bass (just in case).
