The problem I find with the Mono is the straps slide down. You start off walking and the instrument is the perfect height, after 10 minutes it’s banging on the back of your legs. Mono gig bags are also over £200 now!

Possibly best to take him/her to a shop so he can try a few.

I've been a fan of Mono gig bags for the last 5 or 6 years. The prices now though are quite ridiculous. Is there an alternative that's as good? Someone recommended the Fusion Urban. It'll actually be a guitar gig bag that I'm getting, for my new and very lovely Sei headless 6 string. Thanks

Now you're asking Maybe something like this? https://www.amazon.co.uk/IK-Multimedia-Mobile-Guitar-Interface-Black/dp/B00T631UTC/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1517870072&sr=8-7&keywords=audio+interface+for+ipad+mac

I think you should have GarageBand, you’ll just need an interface to plug between you and the iPad.

Are Markbass cabs now considered a bit rubbish?
ambient replied to Wolverinebass's topic in Amps and Cabs
As a Markbass user I'd say they're most certainly not rubbish. In fact they they're the best cabs and amps that I've used. Take a look at their endorsers, people like Marcus Miller for instance who could use any amp he wanted. -
The one band I play with the other guys are all way older than me. The next youngest from me is 62, then the other are all early 70s. As long as you're able and willing to play then there's no obstacle.

These are absolutely brand new and unused. They were ordered just before Christmas for a 6 string fretless that I was going to purchase. In the end I didn’t buy the bass but bought something else instead that I can’t use these on because it’s headless. I love flat wound strings, unfortunately you’re not exactly spoiled for choice when it comes to 6 string basses. The gauges are .120, .100, .080, .060, .040 and .030. The high C is wound. These are really well-renowned strings amongst the ERB community. They were also very expensive and incurred import charges too, so this price is an absolute bargain. I’d like £40 which includes postage.

I bought a Mono Vertigo last Summer. Possibly something to do with 7kg bass that I used to carry around in it, one of the straps broke. Anyway, the distributors very kindly sent me a replacement that arrived on Thursday. I'm now the proud owner of a rather fabulous Sei 6 string headless bass, that looks a little lost in this bass gig bag, so I'm going to get the guitar version. Would trade for a guitar version. £140 including postage.

How old were the rest of the band though? Mayve he was their dad or uncle or something?

I did lots of gigs with it's smaller cousin the PJB Double 4. It was absolutely fine. That was jazz and solo bass stuff, some ambient ensemble stuff too, that does get a bit loud at times. They're very fussy with placement, ideally they need to be in a corner, or by a wall, so they have something to bounce off.

If you could go back in time to one gig, which one?

Brian Eno and Robert Fripp in Paris in 1975. -
USPS will become Parcelforce once it reaches the UK. They add £25 clearance charge on top of whatever you end up paying in import duty.
-
It's about 25% tax/duty on the total price, that includes the cost of shipping. So instrument+shipping costs+25% = the total you'll pay. Plus possibly a fee from Royal mail or Parcelforce if you use USPS to ship it.

How do you know if you're any good?!
ambient replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
There are lots of variables with this, also who do you compare yourself to? I did a 3 year music degree course, I think there were 12 bassists in total in my year. I wasn’t the worst of them, but I most definitely wasn’t near the best of that 12. The difference between the top and the bottom was scary. We all had different abilities, and strengths and weaknesses. So I may not have been as technically good as some, but my sight-reading or harmony knowledge may have been better. I ended up with a 1st, but that was thanks to one particular module that I excelled in, which actually wasn’t actually bass playing, though it was a solo bass thing. End of the day, if you enjoy what you do, and you’re not being let down by your ability that’s all really matters. -
Card reader/ POS for merch - anyone done this?
ambient replied to sprocketflup's topic in General Discussion
Paypal do one, it does cost you though. -
Lots of venues ask nowadays. It's a good idea for a band to get it anyway. I'm in the MU and get it through my membership. Maybe contact your broker?

Isn’t there someone on here builds semi-hollow instruments? I think Bass direct stock them. -
