1. Good news you've got them back. Now don't leave them in your car again .
2.
Just messaged our guitarist about this.... he was sayign he's looking for a PSU, though not sure if he needs something with more oomph.
Thanks, this will power quite a few pedals.
3.
The video looks completely fake to me. As though he's just miming along to something that has been played on a different bass.
I thought that, there's at least one slapped note on the track that he doesn't play.
4.
looks even worse in that vid - is it just me or a the bottom 3 string touching each other?
They are. It wasn't originally a 15 string, if you look at the bridge it only has 10 saddles, so I'm guessing it was a 10 string, someone has bodged it together, adding extra strings, that it wasn't designed to take. I love ERBs, real ones anyway. I don't understand the animosity toward them, it baffles me. If someone wants to build one, own one, play one then that's their choice. Chris Cardone says in the one video that he's had horrible things said to him on Facebook, why ? I'm friends with Chris on Facebook, he comes across as probably what he is in real life, a nice and caring human being, so why someone would say horrible things because he has an ERB is beyond me.
5. I think they look amazing, though I've never played one. I do really like carbon fibre necks, I owned a Modulus Quantum 6 for almost 4 years. Wonder what a pair of fretted and fretless 7 string basses would cost .
6.
I feel as though the internet is absolutely saturated with sh*t adverts.
Just use an adblock.
7. Not everyone is a member on here, not everyone who is a member would place trust in a seller, regardless of his or her past record. Lots of people in Europe do know of Bass direct, and lots of people would trust them over someone selling privately. I think because of this, selling through them is a good idea, I think ultimately you would get more for your sale, with less hassle.
8.
I stopped using SoundCloud altogether when they got rid of sharing music into groups. Not long after that they had an exponential increase of fake and bot accounts. I also hated the newer phone browser based player and found the app' version not so great either.
The app was awful, my car could have designed a better one.
9. They obviously can't stop people paying cash at private parties, weddings, birthdays, bar mitzvahs etc.
10. Quite sad really, I'm reading a lot on Facebook that they're about to close. Just a warning to anyone, who like me has a subscription with them. Mine was due to renew this coming weekend, I've now cancelled it, and I'll use the money for a pro subscription to Bandcamp, which actually gives more anyway, videos and stuff. Still sad though, I use Soundcloud a lot, I've currently got 710 tracks on there.
11. There are really nice and very good samples of pianos, strings and synths in Garageband. For the money it really is excellent. Have you got a keyboard to use with it?
12. If I'm consciously trying to write something, I just record everything into logic pro. Each thing I record I just drag across the arrange window, so i end up with maybe 7, 8, 9 or more snippets. These are invariably different versions of the original idea, or they may be different parts. I just sit back and listen to each one over and over, delete the ones I don't like, and keep the ones I do like. re-arranging them back at the beginning of the arrange window. I then let the piece grow and develop like that. Other things that often work well, are to choose unfamiliar chords or keys. These will sound different to your ears, often giving up good results. I sometimes take the indeterminacy route too, which can be fun. Write a bunch of keys on pieces of paper, pick one out of a hat at random, that's the key you're working in. That kind of thing, it's something Eno used to use.
13. One of my students is 79. You're never too old.
14. Can they not just write out parts for the songs? Maybe just go through each song a part at a time, so verse then chorus etc, and have them write (notation) or just sketch out what they're doing, or what they're basing what they're playing on. That's what I do with my ambient stuff. I had to actually score out six or seven pieces for my BMus, which was an absolute nightmare, each was about 20 or 30 pages long, with lots of improvisation. For my own use though, I use a mix of standard notation, if there's a particular figure I'll use notation, and written direction and some graphic stuff to give a direction of where I want the piece to go. Just something for them to look at.
15.
I've always said that people who have to read music to play have no musical soul. A bass guy, keyboard or guitard who've learnt 300 or more toons in their lifetime and can rattle them off with the odd little inaudible mistake, then play an improv solo from somewhere inside their heart - THAT'S a musician. I've seen guys on cruise ships backing mini stars that have to read to play and actually sound great and spot on, but I often wonder if they could really hold their own in a jam situation.
There's absolutely no reason why someone who's classically trained can't improvise. They are two different skills, admittedly, but they can both be learned.
16. This is excellent for small pedal boards, or even larger ones where you want more room for, well....pedals . It fits comfortably under my Pedaltrain pedalboard. The price includes a 6 way daisy chain, which oddly, you have to buy separately. Just a couple of months old, and in excellent condition, and works perfectly. £25 including postage.
17. I'm looking for a new/better power supply. Which is the best one?
18.
Lost tax revenue was how I understood it
Still a drop in the ocean when compared to what G4S, Amazon and google etc don't pay.
19.
I didn't think you could get a tax rebate if it was your hobby. If you can then I'm going to claim a tax rebate for all the things I buy to enable me to race. All that's required is a diary showing gigs and payments and recipts of all your outgoings. I think you can even claim for mileage to and from rehearsals, MP3 downloads, and any other 'equipment', but only against offsetting payments for gigging to demonstrate that it's a hobby. You can't offset the loss you make against your day job taxes unless you're a self employed full time musician of course and then you're actively trying to make a profit.
I'd be surprised if you couldn't, I'm not an expert, but I don't think it makes a difference if it's your hobby, you're still getting an income from it. It's surprising what you can claim each year, stage clothes, suits, black trousers etc, strings and other equipment, software, I can even deduct my Mmus fees, which are classed as personal development.
20. It doesn't really bother me tbh. I get cash for gigs, and for teaching, it's all paid into my bank. I make a trip down a couple of times a week. I don't use cash for anything, personally I dislike carrying money, I love contactless . I'm of the opinion that the government should first of all look at the dodgy dealings of Google, Starbucks's, Amazon, G4S and the myriad other tax dodging corporations, before picking on people out earning what are in actual fact very little amounts, and when transport costs, and equipment purchases are taken into account, they probably run into a loss anyway.
21. I don't think it's unreasonable to be asked to pay something. They are providing a service after all, a service where they have spent time marketing your instrument, and have probably answered enquiries about it.
22. His live shows are apparently pretty spectacular.
