1. What on earth have looks got to do with anything? It's all surely about being able to play accurately in tune. What have Jaco, Gary Willis, Steve Lawson got in common?

3.
So, how do you mute a 6 string? This thing speaks with the voice of thunder, but I am struggling to tame it with my puny 5 string technique
I use a mix of left and right hand muting. It's a little awkward to describe, but essentially I use a version of floating thumb with my right hand, my thumb moving down across the strings, and the fingers on my left hand that aren't fretting are muting.
4. Tupperware or washed out ice cream box. I keep the old packaging too, so I know what they are and what gauge.
5.
but do they still pass on any sales revenue? I'm sort of looking at Soundrop, no upfront charges but they take 15%,(after the digital stores 30%) seeing as we're not expecting may sales it's tempting
Yes. Out of cd baby and distro I actually prefer cd baby. Even though they're more expensive. I'm releasing something again soon and will use cd baby.
6. Distrokid don't remove it when you stop paying. I used them for an album in January last year, the music is still there on Amazon and Spotify etc.
7. Dunlops are better designed I think.
8. Buy separate strings, maybe use a heavy 4 string set as your B-D strings, and add the G and C. I use a 110 B string on my 7 string, then a 95 E, 75, A, 60, D, 40, G, 32 C and the F is a 25.
9. Distrokid is a one off payment for a year, you can upload as many EP's, albums or tracks as you want over the year.
10. You keep 100% of your royalties too. https://distrokid.com
11. Distrokid charge about £15 a year, for unlimited releases. I've used CD baby too, they're quite expensive though.
12.
Did someone mention that BD wont let you take a bass from the wall to try out ? Eh ? So you have to gauge how much you like or dislike the plank by staring at it ?
No. If you want to try it just ask. Bear in mind some of their stock costs many thousands of pounds, would you want people just taking them off the wall? Just good manners to ask, in my opinion anyway.
13. I don't think that posting personal comments about the guys who work there is right. If you've got a problem with how someone is then keep it to yourself. If you've nothing nice to say then don't say anything, as my mom always said when I was a child.
14. I'm amazed someone would travel 140 miles without being sure what they were going to buy was in stock. I like them, I've bought lots off them, had a couple of problems but these have always been very swiftly and professionally sorted out.
15. Why not use someone in this country? Martin Simms for example. I can see this being a nightmare with customs etc.
16. Read the small print of whoever you go with, often musical instruments aren't covered in the insurance, though they'll still take your money.
17.
It will be interesting to see if You can find someone who can supply the Hi F (is it a 20?) string in flatwound. Have You considered halfwounds? maybe more options? Brendan
I think I'm using a .022 for my F, the .20 was a plain steel that I didn't like. Half wounds would be fine, I used them on my Yamaha JP 6 string. I've emailed Picato to see if they can put together a set. Whatever I get needs to be flexible, some flats are way too high tension.
18. If you're recording why do you need to 'learn' the song. I doubt anyone will be bothered if you're playing it from charts.
19. I think the bass player was Herbie Flowers.
20.
You could try Picato, they're made in the UK & they do flats.
Thanks, I'll drop them an email 😊.
21.
Newtone Strings. British and custom service. Can't post links on my vintage phone - newtonestrings.com
Thanks, I've sent them an email.
22. I really don't like round wound strings. I want a set of light gauge flat wounds for my 7 string. Similar in tone and feel to TI flats. Is there a maker in the U.K.?
23. Depends what software you want to run. Macs come with Garageband, or it can be bought for a really silly price from the app store, it's pretty amazing for the cost. Logic Pro is simply stunning, and costs a little over £100, way cheaper than ProTools. These only run on Macs.
