A woodwind player friend of mine suffers from a form of this peculiar to woodwind players, called tennis oboe. Sorry for making light of your situation, only a friend told me that rather poor joke a few gays ago.
There's a lot going on in Birmingham, also excellent transport links to Wolverhampton and Coventry which are also pretty decent.
Birmingham ?

Bristol and the southwest seem to be pretty good for the non-normal or more interesting type of music. I have a couple of solo gigs in Bath and Bristol coming up.

I'd like to hear it without roundwound strings.

Email him, I've found him to be very approachable and helpful.

DV247 have always been fine when I've ordered stuff.

I find you don't usually need to stray too far from your flat sound, though this probably depends on what you're using. I use matkbass gear which I love. Certainly leave the mids alone, it's these that I find give your sound the ability to be heard. Any honkiness will disappear when the band start. IMO people fiddle too much. We also play too loud.

Good at playing, rubbish at selling ourselves
ambient replied to Nicko's topic in General Discussion
Some people are brilliant at selling bands and getting gigs. I'm fine if it's just emailing places, I'd personally find going in to places and talking quite a scary proposition. A friend on mine is really excellent, he'll go in to any potential venue and talk to people for ages. I think sometimes they'll book whatever band he's selling just to get rid of him . -

Notation is notation. As someone above has posted, you may find the circle of 4th/5ths useful.
As you mention Youtube, why not get a list of songs you want to learn, and then play along. I do this and although the songs themselves may not stretch my abilities, learning more new songs in my opinion makes me a better bassist for the type of music that I do. I also pick up some tips on good runs, patterns etc this way, so I guess it must be improvement. I`d really knock a 3-4 hour practice on the head though, I think all but the most dedicated would be likely to run out of steam after a couple of hours.
I used to spend 14 hours some days. Better to plan on 4 and end up with 2, than plan on 2 and end up with 1, in my opinion of course.

List what you feel you want to practice. Then decide realistically how long you've got timewise. Then allocate a proportion of that time to each topic. Keep a diary of your practice regime, and don't cheat 😊. You have to be disciplined though, and really want to do whatever.

A series 1 model. The much sought after, and quite rare these days series 1 John Patitucci model in excellent condition. These are one of the best, if not the best 6 string basses you can buy. Much better than the beast that is the series 2 model, a lot more player friendly with the 34" scale. She will be 22 years old in June. There are a couple of very minor marks, commensurate with her age, but absolutely nothing whatsoever that affects playability, or detracts from her overall beauty. Everyone who sees this bass comments on the amazing beauty of the instrument. The action is incredibly low. She was fully set-up and serviced by a local technician when I acquired her last year. The service included the installation of a new recessed jack socket. Everything is standard and works as it should. I'm commended on my sound on every gig that I do. I'm selling to purchase a 7 string that's for sale. Collection or meet up/drop off is preferred, but will ship if absolutely necessary. Price now an absolute bargain - £1000 ! Lots more photos further on.
Lots of people live in Thailand mate, some of whom are very wealthy - just like most other countries! I sold a pair of high end speaker cables to bloke in Thailand years ago, paid via bank transfer, no issues at all. The value of these cables would be more than most of secondhand Status's! Dont know why people are saying not to accept paypal gift. It cannot be reversed which is why it is free to use - no transaction insurance to pay for!

First, on Thailand you're probably right. On Gift, I don't get that either.
Maybe you'd have a problem if they paid you using a hacked Paypal account, or a stolen or skimmed credit card. That happened to someone I know. He sold an amp on eBay. The winning bidder according to eBay was someone with a very English sounding name in the UK. Payment was made immediately via Paypal, then came an email from 'the winning bidder', asking my friend to send the amp to somewhere in Nairobi. It was a hacked account.

I find playing a 6 string, that muting is a combination of the 2 hands. I use a moving thumb rather than floating thumb i.e. my thumb moves down the strings following the notes that I'm playing. I also use the free fingers of my left hand to mute. Unless I'm playing chords or double stops then I will probably only have one finger at a time doing the fretting, so the spare ones mute.

Audition piece - Your suggestions please.
ambient replied to darkandrew's topic in General Discussion
Bach's cello stuff is beautiful, and readily available. I had to play a piece 2 years ago as part of an interview to teach for my local music service. I chose something that I'd already don't whilst at uni. A solo bass, chord melody arrangement of what a wonderful world, Steve Lawson plays a beautiful arrangement of this piece sometimes. -
