1.
And Ian Paice has just had a stroke! What's going on?!
Old age.
2. This is the bag that came with my Roscoe 6 string fretless. They're excellent bags, offering loads of protection, with a good couple of centimetres or so of padding all around, and with ample room for carrying stuff in the two pockets. It is in excellent condition, pretty much like new. I'm only selling because I already have a Protec Contego, this is in the way. I'm after £35 which includes postage. 3. I played this briefly last week. It's an excellent example, and I seriously doubt you'll find a nicer person to deal with than Adam.
4. Doesn't seem that unreasonable. Bands I've played for have often been asked to. It would cost more though.
5. Does it matter ? Following this, then you'd need to be a racing car driver to own a nice car.
6. Done, there's no box for my email for entry into the prize draw 😌.
7.
Could have been worse... Could have been a piano tie...
Almost as bad, I know a trumpet player who turned up for a gig wearing a waistcoat with trumpets embroidered on the front, with musical notes coming out of it.
8. I don't think there's anything much in it. I've owned 34" and 35" scale basses at the same time, I couldn't tell any difference. Matt Garrison has an extender on his Fodera, to drop the E string down to a B, his Fodera is I believe a 33" scale instrument.
9. Refusing to wear black with an orange tie .
10.
I registered mine to update to the latest firmware...now i'm told i may not get a refund because it's registered.
I found that you have to play very cleanly, it picks up the slightest extraneous sound and converts that too. Flat wound strings made a huge difference, and try wrapping a sock or hair thing around the end of the fretboard to cut down on other strings ringing out. It was only really on piano sounds that I had a problem.
11. Fretless is an incredibly versatile instrument, though probably more known in jazz and fusion, with Jaco and Gary Willus, as well as the 80s pop offerings by Pino with Paul Young. The guy from cream used one, and also check out it's use in metal. Robin Zeilhurst in a great band called exivious used one to great effect.
12. It's great, I love the fretless playing of Steve Lawson and Michael Manring. It's good to get some transcriptions of walking lines, and use them to practice with.
13.
That is the sonuus one
Yeah, not paying attention to my own posts 😊. I tried one last year, it didn't quite work for what I wanted, which was piano and looping. It did work great though for more legato type stuff, such as synth pads and synth bass lines, so I imagine it should work great with upright bass sounds.
14. Maybe something like this ? http://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/recording-studio/detail.asp?stock=14100716525016&gclid=CjwKEAjwgbG5BRDp3oW3qdPiuCwSJAAQmoSD9XmCkx_sHgDPHwEoiOs8wdne1ZrpfBGPX9Nty_iyBhoC4xzw_wcB
15. The live from the basement DVD is great, really worth watching.
16.
Logic...cheers guys.
Plenty of nice ones in Logic, you can draw in the notes too.
17.
Cheers man, i wanted something that i can play my bass and the signal sound uprightish, i'm not the greatest of keyboard player.
You don't have to be, that's the thing. Just tidy it up after you've recorded the parts. What DAW are using ?
18. Why not use a keyboard and a VST. The one's in Logic for instance are very good. Just remember to think upright.
19.
Thanks for the replies, learning both and not treating them as separate entities makes the most sense, I know. It's just a lot of hard work when there's so much other stuff to practice.. This is it, I end up playing the head on a lot of tunes but I have to memorise that stuff, I'm nowhere near a stage where I could tackle sight reading the head on a tune I haven't studied. It does open up a lot of music for you.
I can recommend getting a treble clef real book, I have some on pdf I can let you have, and just practice playing through the melody lines. It's good practice too for getting to know the songs.
20. I can read both, though I get slow with treble clef if I don't use it for a while. I recently did some scores that used alto too, that was a real pain. It's great to be able to sight-read treble clef in a jazz situation, you do quite often get given heads to play, sometimes in along with other instruments. These are usually in treble clef.
21. This is a multi-channel 8:1 surround sound piece. Composed to be played back through 8 speakers, creating lots of swirls of movement. I'd been watching Kubrik's 2001, and listening to the OST a lot. I particularly love Gyorgy Ligeti's Lux Aeterna, that's influenced this quite a bit. It took ages to create, building up all the little fragments of vocal sounds. There are no samples or loops used. It was an exam piece. Not everyone's cup of tea I know, but I've had a lot of very nice comments about it. https://soundcloud.com/an-ending-ascend/multi-track-piece-2001ish
