1.
As far as I'm aware, if they pay you as a friend/gift, they can't reclaim the money. Which was my point.
They wouldn't use gift though.
2. I've sold loads of stuff on Bumtree. I always state cash on collection only, and delete emails and texts like this. If someone pays for anything using PayPal, then it has to be sent by a track able means. They still do this because people still fall for it. Kind of like the people who've phoned me twice in the last week, claiming to be from Microsoft and telling me my MacBook has been sending them error messages. People still hand over control of their computers to them, and pay them sums of money for a nonexistent software update to clear a nonexistent virus.
3. Well done for deciding to go for it, and good luck. I did the Rockschool tutor/instructor thing as part of the final year of my music degree. We had to pick one of the pieces to do as a an exam piece, kind of showing how we'd teach it, and highlight difficult areas etc. I did the metal song Cranial Contraption from the grade 6 book. The others are mostly fusion, except for the classic rock one. Let us know how you get along.
4.
Thanks again folks . I'm using safari mainly, but did download Firefox so I may use that instead. Mac OS X snow leopard Tired now can't remember what 10. Something or other
Snow leopard, maybe that's it ? It works fine now with El Capitan, maybe whatever they've done means it doesn't work right with previous OS ?
5. Just an idea, but what OS are you using ? I had problems uploading, and updating tracks when I first started using El Crapitan, if you're using a previous OS, then it may be that ?
6.
Here is a pic,of what I'm falling about;) I will go subscribe eventually. ( www.soundcloud.com/stream) I will try www. Upload etc, and see if I can get in that way. BTW, I was just gonna upload something and I had to restart my Mac, as Bt was playing up again;)
I don't know, it's odd isn't it ? I've been subscribing for sometime, so I can't remember how I used to upload. I think I pay £3 a month to subscribe, so it's worth it.
7. I bought a pair of Genelec monitors from them in October 2014. One stopped working in January this year. I contacted them by email, with 30 minutes they replied and sent me a rpostage paid return slip. A week later they sent me a brand new monitor. I seriously don't think you can beat that.
8. Knowing what you're playing, what to play and when, and how to play it. They're vital, in my opinion anyway. In other words, if you walk into a room to play with a group of other musicians, they give you a chord chart or tell you the progression, do you know what you can play over that. Can you play the right part, and in time ? Techniques are maybe less so, slap for instance, but maybe being able to play a nice walking line would be advantageous.
9.
Yes, once it gets into five sharps or flats, I tend to lose interest.
Bb minor is my favourite key.
10. I've posted on here before, that I think we play too loud.
11.
We visited some friends in Paris a few years ago and their daughter was learning the cello. We were aware that she played to a fairly high standard because she had just come back from attending a masterclasses in New York. Anyway, she played us a few tunes and I mentioned that I liked the Bach cello suites. Had she learned any, I said? Not really, she replied, but I have the music and I've played them before. She then proceeded to sight read an entire cello suite from start to finish, and it was impeccable (fingers all over the place). She was 13 at the time. I enjoy playing the bass but I'm under no illusions about my capabilities. And yes, I can read, but I'd never be able to do that in a million years.
They're really good practice, and beautiful to play. They're actually harder to play on bass the on cello due to the tuning of bass. That's the thing about classical musicians, when you learn to play cello or violin, it's usually assumed that you'll read music I think. I started off on violin when I was a child, I had lessons at school, and learned to read music. I then switched to playing classical guitar, and again I was playing classical music, and Beatles etc, arranged for classical guitar. When I started playing bass, then I learned the notes for bass staff. I just assumed, quite wrongly , that you had to read music to play. I just thought that whoever I played with, would give me written music to play. I'm currently doing a score in Sibelius for a piece that I've written for my MMus. It's a composition for string trio, and uses bass, treble and alto clefs, it's confusing switching from one to the other.
12. I had a mayones 6 string which was a beautiful bass. A tutor at uni said it was probably the best 6 string bass he'd played.
13.
I'm on the free package (not for long - I have 1 min of upload left with 2 tracks plus April's challenge to upload) and I get the upload button still. Maybe you've gone over the 2 hours limit for a free account?
That's something I thought of, but you will still see the upload button, you just can't click on it. I keep going over my limit, and keep having to delete stuff.
14. This is what I see when I log on to my Soundcloud page.
15. Cool photo ! Looking forward to hearing what you recorded.
16. Just reading this again. Are you trying to upload via the app ? I have to agree the app is rubbish, it's recently been redesigned and is better than it was though, but still rubbish. I don't think you can upload via the app, I certainly can't see how via my iPhone. You can use it to promote tracks via Twitter and Facebook, and search and listen to tracks, but that's about it.
17.
It doesn't seem to be for a non subscriber like myself . Could it be a Mac thing ?
I use a Mac too, don't know maybe it is cos you're not a subscriber, but I don't remember the layout being any different when I was just a free user.
18. I've never heard of most of them, and got bored looking. Is Bill Bruford there ? Oddly enough, the Scottish guy on radio 2 was playing King Crimson this morning.
19. The upload button is where it's always been, at the top of the screen. With regard to upload slowness, I had a similar problem last year. It was my router. I got a new one from Amazon, which cost about £20.
20. I've seen photos of him with a Jaydee. I was playing some of his stuff last night on my new fretless. I'd have thought it pretty usual to start something slow, then get faster once you'd learned it.
21.
Status Flats Thought these were THE one’s….then the E died prematurely L
You mean the E wasn't dead to start with ? Bit of a miracle there .
22. So last Thursday was new fretless 6 string Roscoe day. It was also new (old) piano day. I've wanted an upright piano for as long as I can remember. I found a guy selling one on eBay just 5 miles away from where I live, and he was offering delivery. So I bid, and won it for £2 . It's rather old, and has character . But I love it. I was unfortunately unable to get it upstairs to where I have my studio set up, so it's downstairs, meaning I can only record late at night after everyone else has gone to bed. However, I'm very pleased with the results https://soundcloud.com/an-ending-ascend/19a/comment-280188406 I'm recording it using the built in mic in my Apogee, then adding reverb and delay in Logic Pro. I think sometimes, there's the temptation to play too many notes in stuff, I guess also, you can play too few ? Here I think I've got it about right, especially given some of the comments that have been left.
23. While I agree that an employer, in this case the Royal Opera company, has a duty of care to it's employees, you do also have to look out for yourself. I've never played in or with an orchestra, but I've heard more than my fair share, and played in ensembles with brass, and they can be extremely loud.
24. I'd like to try a set of the new Dunlop flats, nowhere seems to have a C string though.
25.
I can't see that working out too well for them, reading the posts on their FB page!
Yeah, I haven't had a chance to look closely at it, but if they're going to charge people to use the steaming service, are they going to pay the artists ?
