1. It does to me, I would however try and get someone who can help if you get stuck. I've met people who've misunderstood something, without realising it. They've then had to retrace their steps. As and when Skype lessons maybe ?
2. This is why I'd never leave instruments in the loft. There was a thread recently, I thought it odd that people did. I was in our loft last night and it was freezing, in the summer it's ridiculously hot.
3. I'd also recommend a good teacher. A good one will have a variety of ways to show you the same thing.
4. Have you asked Jon Shuker to recommend one ?
5.
Depending on the genre, quite a bit I'd say.
It looks like standard function type stuff. Stevie Wonder himself is 65.
6.
We're in the process of doing this at the moment. We have had a fair few responses now, and actually had a couple along to an audition - we didn't think either was suitable and the second one accepted an offer from another band anyway the next day, and another one we had lined up accepted an offer before we actually saw him. We have a couple coming in this week. But anyway, another one rang me up for a chat. Told me he was mid-fifties, like we are (stretching the definition of mid a little in my case), and to check him out with Google - and the first hit revealed him to have been born in 1946, 11 years before me. Now, some of my best friends are superannuated drummers, and I wouldn't object to someone being in a band on the grounds of age (after all, in the other covers band I was in which is now hibernating, I was 25 years older than the rest of the band) but it would be nice for them to be honest about it. I also noticed that 99% of the drummers looking for bands want to join functions bands. I'm not sure that there are enough function bands to go round.
I can maybe see why he lied to be honest. I've seen adverts that stipulate that musicians applying must be under 30. This is just for function/party type bands. What has age got to do with anything ? He maybe got fed up of not even getting to the audition stage because of his advancing years. The one jazz band I play for, I must be the youngest by about 35 years.
7.
Are you guys planning on doing any classic rock?
Sounds like the 3 or 4 guys that replied to my 'Jazz musicians wanted' ad back in the summer .
8. There's Janek, Matt Garrison, Hadrien Feraud, and Linley Marthe that instantly spring to my mind. All from the last 10 years or so, and still going.
9. Garageband is a great and simple app. I can't believe the price either ! https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/garageband/id408709785?mt=8 It has some nice amp and cab sims to make things easy.
10.
I say this because i find it easier to pick up chords on keys rather than guitar, despite the similarities between guitar and bass
That's exactly it. You can see very easily the intervalic form of a chord.
11. Had this a couple of weeks now. I've not had a lot of time to play it, and just had one gig. But I have to say, I'm extremely pleased with it.
12.
What I don't get are pub bands who insist on micing up the drums as if at a large club, which means the whole band is way over the top volume-wise. What the hell is that all about?
And then said band are puzzled as to why the room is empty.
13. I can kind of understand rock and metal bands wanting a bit of volume. But the average pub and function band in my opinion play too loud. A trumpet player friend of mine is always complaining about the volume of a soul band that he plays for.
14. With regard to the bat staff at venues. How many times have you had to shout your order to them because the music is so loud ? Bear in mind that the bar is usually right at the back of the venue.
15. There's ear plugs, and ear plugs. The yellow foam ones are meant to deaden sound, proper music ones are designed to attenuate sound. In my opinion, we all play too loud nowadays anyway. I don't think 1000 watt heads are necessary, but that's just me.
16. They're similar in that the notes run chromatically, but that's the case for many instruments. Having the ability to play piano is very useful, being able to see the triad, with it's notes and then the extensions. I sometimes use a keyboard when I'm teaching bass, it makes some things easier for the student to visualise.
17. Available for download now. Pay what you think it's worth, though please consider the hours that have been spent in recording this stuff, so if you can afford a small amount, then it would be most welcome . This is an album featuring 7 instrumental ambient tracks, that were composed and recorded over the Christmas period, a total of over 70 minutes of music. Featuring a variety of instruments, analog synth, my guitar playing, my piano playing and some cello and viola. There's also a limited edition CD version available, purchasers of this will receive a code for a free download of everything else that I have released over the last 2 years. 18. It depends how often you use it I guess. I seldom record vocals, when I do and I need Melodyne I just download the free trial using a new email address .
19.
I've used Peter Allen for the last 10 years or so. He's always been consistently excellent. Website below - he's just outside Warwick, about 5 mins off the M40 Warwick turning. http://www.guitartec...lservices.co.uk
I contacted him once. He seemed............odd. He basically told me that he would set it up, as he wanted it, not how I wanted it. He seemed to think that what everyone else did was wrong. Just my experience of him.
20. John Diggins. There's a guy in Coventty too, just in the city centre at a shop called noise works.
21. I didn't think the LM2 was a class D. I may be totally wrong with this.
22. This has to be my favourite Jazz bass tone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hsum9ortSFc I remember having this track on repeat for days when I first heard it. I think jazz basses are an instrument that really bring out an individual's personal sound.
23. Can you buy just the strap part ? I've seen the bit that screws into the bass for sale, but not the strap part on it's own. I don't really want to part with £17 for the complete thing, when I only need the one part.
24. I'm possibly the wrong person to reply to this, I really don't like classic rock at all. However, I would say that if you and your band mates are happy, then ignore him. Kind of odd that you're doing s gig and he's not 😊.
