1.
There is indeed a big market for it. Doesn't stop it being tedious beyond belief though.
😁
2.
Quite. And refusing to listen to or play certain genres seriously limits your opportunity for work as a bass player. Why would you want to do that? Play anything with anyone. .
I agree to a point, if I'm being paid I'll play anything. The problem with a lot of these gigs is there's very little money in it. Most bands in this field are playing the local pub on a Friday night for little are no money.
3.
Scandalous. One can only imagine they thought you might have a diverse range of musical interests and be interested in another project - how very dare they! I hope you sent them packing with a suitable admonishment.
I have a very wide range of musical interest, unfortunately trying to stay awake during a 10 minute long, over loud, blues rock style guitar solo, during a cover of ZZ Top's whatever in F isn't one of them .
4.
Do you mean a dislike for the guitarists as people, or for their chosen field/techniques?
I guess their attitude or mindset, they're usually far too loud and prone to constant widdling. 😊
5. I've recently gone from lots of separate pedals, to just using an Eventide Space. The great thing with it, is that you can easily swap the chain of effects around.
6. I hate blues rock as a genre, I also have a strong dislike of guitarists who play blues rock. I was advertising for experimental/ambient musicians for a project, I had 2 guys contact me both looking fora bass player for their blues rock bands. I also dislike classic rock
7. Theo Travis's new album is rather good, and definitely falls into the 'Prog' pigeon hole.
8. It's a little out of my zone, but If it's contemporary stuff, then maybe D'Angelo with Pino, or try Erykah Badhu, her live album is good, it's just her, bass drums and keys. Great bass playing too, I think he plays a 6 string MTD. 😊
9. For more up to date stuff, I quite like either 'The raven that refused to sing', or 'Grace for drowning' by Steven Wilson.
10. Let me know if this is over priced ? It's an amazing interface, I'm only selling it to free up some much needed funds.
11. Never played one, but they do look pretty amazing .
12. I was for the first 2 years. Then I started having lessons because I felt that I had hit a wall, and was no longer progressing. I then had to re-learn what I had done technique wise. I had lessons off the same guy on and off for about 4 years. I then had more lessons when I switched to playing 6 string bass, these were off the guy who turned into my biggest bass playing influence, Steve Lawson. I had lessons from him for about 3 years. I've since done a HND in popular music performance, and recently graduated with a BMus (hons).
13. A great little power supply. Includes 2 sets of 6 daisy chains. £25 including postage.
14. Maybe have a look on talkbass ?
15.
As with everything on YouTube, there's gold and there's tripe. It seems to be getting better and better though, as I suppose is to be expected. Why is the prevalence of the tritone substitution ironic Ambient?
Ah, the tritone which used to be called the devils interval or diabolus in musica was banned by the church, nowadays it's used widely in gospel music.
16.
Using nothing but Logic, I've made my first song in it. I even used the BC comp photo for inspiration OK, I need to learn more about using it for EQing & mastering to get a more professional sound, but the things it can do are immense! Well chuffed with it! https://soundcloud.com/xgsjx/in-flight
Really good, I like it !
17. There are lots of videos - youtube and otherwise re gospel bass. I was watching some with my student. It's a little ironic the prevalence of the tritone substitution in gospel.
18. Given that unless you sit at the back of a function room listening though headphones to the original song, I doubt that anyone would really be bothered that the original song was played on a Fender P bass, and you're playing it on a 6 string Modulus. The most important thing is to play in time, and to play the right notes using as close as possible to the right feel for the song.
19. Didn't Jeff Berlin once play with them ? I think Tony Levin should play with them.
20. I think sometimes a band is classed as Prog because they don't fit into any other classification. My favourite is probably King Crimson in the court of the crimson king.
21. You're so right. I've only played with a 'real' piano once, that was last year in a studio in a university in London last summer. The feel is totally different. You get more sustain in the piano, that you don't with an electric instrument, the body of the piano resonates. I love hearing guys like Bill Evans play.
22. There's a guy I'm teaching who is hugely into gospel music. Guys he recommended to me are the following - Fred Hammond Sharay Reed Andrew Gouche - I knew about him already. Darrel Freeman 😊
