There is a stage bug that has a mini Jack built in especially for laptops actually! http://www.radialeng...stagebugsb5.php

There are some new cheaper Radials as well as the JDI - the passive Stage Bug looks like a good cost effective one and is pretty compact. The simple passive Pro DI is great ( I recently saw a lot of them at a very high end recording studio). Edit - it may be easier to use two small passive boxes, and send two lines, rather than trying to get two inputs to balance front of house.
Thanks guys, they look great. Would there be any benefit to using 2 separate things ?

Very interesting read regarding streaming services.
Who is Anil Prasad? Both articles read like they're written by someone that doesn't understand either the flow of finances through the music industry or general consumer spending habits. The streaming services are lead by the rights holders not the other way round as suggested - nothing happens without the rights holders consent & many of the things that do happen are directly requested by them (yes this includes the independents). Suggesting a huge monthly fee is sheer madness - streaming services came about as a way for the rights holders to monetise internet music consumption after years of fighting against it. They were originally seen as a way to ween people off illegal downloads, hoping that they would first stream then move on to purchasing downloads. The 9.99 a month premium generally came about from the thinking that people are willing to pay the same as 1 album per month. In the years that followed streaming services spent (and still are spending) millions of dollars trying to get listeners into the services - for every free trial you see given out for 1/3/6/12 months etc... the rights holders are getting paid, what the artists are getting paid obviously depends on contracts (as with the rest of the industry) some will be getting paid a decent amount, others won't with most somewhere in the middle. Though saying all that (now going slightly off topic), what I think is being missed is that recorded music sales is not the future earnings for musicians - those times are long gone. The money should be coming from performance & artist partnerships - in an age where everything is available instantly & often free a bigger premium should be being put on the magic of being in the room when music is being created, space is limited so cost can go up - recorded music is really just a marketing tool to get people interested.
I think musicians should be paid for playing music, not for people listening to it. One doesn't pay every time one looks at an artist's painting or sculpture. Live performance, fine; the audience pays. Recordings should be paid for on a 'one off' basis. To me, all this stuff about 'intellectual property' is a scam. Actors in films get paid for their performance, not for the folks going to the cinema. Yes, I was a professional musician for some years. It's become a cow for milking, imo, where folks get money even when sitting by the pool or doing their shopping. An unpopular view, I know, but there it is.
I'm just watching a program about hit singles through the years. They're interviewing the guy from Slade about their Christmas hit, he calls it the bands pension. -
I can't see the text "read at 12:27" on either screenshot. However that time does appear in the first one and seems to be the time the other participant "read" something that I assume means checked the conversation or read the latest message. Am I making sense?
Yep, that was the time they read the initial message, and they replied to me. I replied to them at 12.38, but it still says read at 12.27, so it must just refer to the initial message.

For on my pedal board. I have some solo gigs coming up, but also for recording. It needs to have an input from my pedals, and I use a lot of pre-recorded messed around with field recordings, so it also needs to take an input from my macbook.

All the stuff I've done recently have been recorded direct to tape on my Revox. This was something done yesterday afternoon. I'm using an Eventide Space reverb pedal, though it's a whole lot more than just a reverb, it has delay, modulation and a nice distortion sound. It is all just bass, and I'm using aTC Ditto X2 looper, and an ebow. https://soundcloud.c...scend/14072015d It's just improvised, absolutely no thought put into it. Comments welcome, though I know it's quiet, it's not really meant to be loud, not that sort of music really.

I posted something on a thread here a few weeks ago regarding the messaging, and it showing that they've been read, when they haven't. Quite a few jumped up and said I was wrong. Well, I sent a message to someone yesterday, he read it today and replied. My reply to him was at 12.38, it says on the message 'read at 12.27'. So the 'message read at' must only be the initial reading, not the reply, bearing in mind my reply wasn't sent until 11 minutes later.
Hi James, this is a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' question. What I'd do (and what I mostly still do) is to set everything 'flat' (or what looks like flat) on your amp and guitar, i.e. everything in the 12 o'clock or centre-position. Then just concentrate on getting the volume level right. Over time you will know if you need to cut or boost any frequencies through experience. At this stage I'd leave the compressor out of the equation, that's a whole subject on its own right there. You may not even need to use it at all. There's no 'best' setting for an amp or bass EQ otherwise everyone would set their controls to it and that would be that! But they don't.
That's exactly what I do too. Just leave everything flat, and then play for a bit, and try and 'hear in you head', what you do or don't like about your sound. I'm amazed sometimes when I turn up at studios, and the amps tone controls are all over the place, I'm just left wondering how on earth the previous guy must have sounded. I personally just keep everything flat, and change playing position and style on the bass accordingly.

I would just use a chord chart then, and write above the chords the rhythm that you have to play, or maybe just learn any line ? Something like this maybe, where they've written the rhythm across the top ? I dep for a couple of jazz bands, and just use chords charts with the odd written head. When I was depping for bands a few years ago it was maybe 50/50 whether it was a reading gig or not. If there was no reading involved then I just used chord charts that I made up myself (just make sure beforehand about the key, software like Sibelius is great for chord charts, they look tidy and it's simples to change the key), or for songs with specific lines that I didn't know I made proper notation charts. A friend of mine has all his on his iPad, it's so simple to use. He just hooks it up to his laptop and transfers across the set.

If it's rhythm as well as harmony, maybe just design your own ? There are lots of examples of graphic scores available that you could use for inspiration.. Can you read basic rhythms ?

Anyway it's not on the Travelodge breakfast menu.
It's the only song of there's I know 😁 they were playing sleigh ride in the snow for some bizarre reason yesterday on classic FM.

Did they play the Christmas song ?
Hi all, I'm looking to purchase a lightweight (10 KG at most!) combo amp to use primarily at jazz gigs with my upright or electric bass. Needs to be light enough so I can carry it easily while wheeling a double bass! I know a few guys who have the Markbass Micromark 801, but if I wonder if there were any similar things I should consider? Thanks, H
Phil Jones Double Four. It's tiny, but perfectly capable. I use it for my solo stuff, but also in a 5 piece jazz band. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqMaOHJ9okE
Source Audio Soundblox2 OFD & Multiwave Bass Distortion with their expression pedal can do it. With two presets you could programme either two different types of distortion that can fade in or out depending on how you select the exp option, Or if you just find one killer sound, set the exp option to fade in (more gain) on toe down on left button & the opposite on right button ... quite a few options really as you can select the exp assign to any parameter, use as volume pedal or set to clean blend or maybe low to high eq (treble or mid or bass) etc .... You can also use 2nd out on exp pedal to send signal to any pedal that has 1/4" trs exp input and still send to SA pedals (they link via 1/8" trrs cable) .. very versatile
Thank you ! 😊

A pedal, where you can reduce the amount of gain to sort of fade in or out the distortion effect. Anyone know of anything please ?
