1. My Quantum has a truss rod, but I've never touched it. The action is stupid low, I use very light strings too, the B is a 105, down to a 020 C. Sounds like the frets need looking at on your bass.
  2.
Have a listen to Kronos Quartet. A wide range of music from the traditional "classical" repertoire to modern works both within and without that tradition (and a lot of world and jazz based music as well). Classical is really a non-term, like "rock". Whose classical and whose rock. As far as I'm concerned Schindlers List is a film score written in the classical manner but I wouldn't call it classical, any more than a blues purist would say that Clapton was a blues guitarist (he isn't, he plays electric). Steve
I have a lot of stuff by the Kronos Quartet.
  3. The TC Ditto is great, and a bargain. Maybe use it with a volume pedal to save having to turn the amp down ? Is it your contrabassoon that you're playing through this ?
  4.
Shouldn't allowed to be played during the day IMHO. I have Radio 3 on in the house during the day and it's crept up on me occasionally. Before I know it, it's mournful gazing out of the window and deep sighs. Beautiful, but very moving. I have visions of housewives throwing themselves on their rolling pins all over the country.
It was on quite late 😉 maybe 3 o'clock in the morning - I'm nocturnal 😊
  5.
All music is made up of rhythm, bit of a strange comment. Are you a music student, I would have thought that was in lesson 1.
Rhythm section as in drums and bass 😊not something you see in an average orchestra.
  6.
I think I must be the only person in the universe who doesn't like Stevie Wonder.
Erm, no there's me too 😊
  7. I'm into the 'darker' stuff, Penderecki, Messiaen, I like Dvorak and Elgar's cello works, and the more contemporary stuff like Glass and Reich. Also newer composer like like Nico Murhly.
  8.
I can but it's all subjective , I've never got or understood classical music , not sure if that's just me or due to upbringing , lack of education etc. Either way it's nice to see you finding real joy in it , maybe I will also one day
It's not lack of education or upbringing. My dad hates it, and my brother is openly hostile against it, and makes fun of me listening to it. I was never introduced to it as a child, it's a recent thing, maybe the last 3 or 4 years. I think it's just a case of listening to it, maybe finding a composer that you like to start with and then let that grow.
  9. Try these people, a one off £20 payment for a year, and you can release as many tracks as you want. They put it on iTunes, amazon, spotify etc. https://distrokid.com

    Tony Levin

Maybe contact him through his website or Facebook. I've heard that he's very helpful and does reply.

Have you tried google ? I remember coming across something last year where there was a list of his effects thorough the years. He used the phase 90 a lot in the early 80s.
  12. With regard to expression, beauty and emotion ? I find that I'm listening to more and more classical music recently. Except for stuff that I do for uni, I don't listen to anything with a rhythm section at all. I just heard Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings on classic FM, what a beautiful piece of music. Earlier they played the theme to Schindlers list by John Williams. I can't think of a contemporary piece of music that's so hauntingly beautiful.
  13. I had the GT10 last year, it was quite amazing really just what you could do with it.
  14. There was a thread that I started recently where a few of the contributors seemed to take great pleasure in ridiculing what I'd posted, or rather what they thought I'd posted, which wasn't actually the same thing at all.
  15.
Not eBay but I just put a wanted ad on gumtree and was contacted by someone offering me what I wanted and sent pictures.. Turns out the pictures are from another live ad in Scotland when they claimed to live in poole. They requested I sent money to them via bank transfer as they didn't have paypal. These are the details they used 07974589172 [email protected] Thanks
I always only ever deal in person with buying or selling on Bumtree, seems to be the best thing.
  16.
Money split them up but it's brought them back together again
Yeah, I heard that whoever did the songwriting gave everyone a cut of the songwriting royalties, but stopped that when the band split up. So they took him to court to get it reinstated. He was totally within his rights to do this, the wording of the contract at the time allowed for it, but for obvious reasons they were a bit peeved. Though they still received royalties from being on the original recordings.
  17. I thought they'd all fallen out, besides the 2 brothers ?

Bump. Taking it uni soon, someone there may be interested.
  19. Well, the usual thing at a bass show is to slap something very loud, and not pay any notice at all to timing accuracy
  20.
Do they, though?
Well yes, this is a remix, not an original work. Unless the remix guy got permission which I doubt, then the owner is the original composer/songwriter.
  21.
problem being that it's not his original work its an arrangement of a previously copyrighted piece of music
That's what I was getting at in my first post.
  22.
Am i too late to put in my recently acquired Trace rig?? And yes, the amp face does light up.
Cool, love the way you have your gear mounted on the wall
  23. The Motown book is pretty good. Jazz walking bass line transcriptions are good too, most pop or rock lines are often quite diatonic, walking bass lines often throw in non diatonic/chromatic passing notes that can trip you up.
  24.
oh boy.....I am running out of room for all this green goodness!
Have you had to have your floor strengthened ?
  25. Sounds to me like the battery in your bass.
