Not tried his effects, as like some others on here I build my own too However, I'm quite familiar with this circuit. For what he is charging, I think the price is more than fair. On top of the cost of the parts (that vactrol can be a PITA to get hold of) also taking into account the time taken to build this pedal, makes it a good deal IMHO. If I was after a compulator, I would buy it.
I really admire you guys who can build your own, like I said in my earlier post, I'm way too dangerous with a soldering iron, besides i haven't the slightest clue what the components are
....and you too can do exactly what he's done. Copied the veroboard circuit (from here) and built the kit with £20 of parts.... (I've just got the parts in for a Fulltone OCD replica using their layout diagram.)
I can too 😊 last time i used a soldering iron I burned me, got solder everywhere and burned 3 holes in the floor 😊 I guess it depends how well it's put together and the quality of the parts. Thanks for replying 😊
Slap to me is the same as wheel spinning, or pulling a handbrake turn in a car park full of loose gravel.......It grabs your attention very briefly, may look impresive for a second or two, and then you think ' what's that all about then'.
A second or two....as long as that ? What annoys me about Youtube reviews, is where the guy is just rambling on, and on, and on. Clearly little or no thought has been put into the thing beforehand with regard to what they're gonna say. There was one I saw the other day that someone had posted on here, where after about 20 seconds i just switched off and came back to this site. It doesn't have to be scripted, just not rambling.

Like new, includes all packaging and I'll include a rather cool little case that I bought to go with it. http://www.amazon.co...ords=apogee+jam Selling because I just bought a MOTU Ultralite firewire interface, that while being nowhere near as small as this, is still light enough to carry about. £65 o.n.o including postage.

Starting a record label - advice needed please
ambient replied to tedmanzie's topic in General Discussion
I can't see the demand for a new label TBH. The big boys are there because of their advertising clout. The new artists release their own work directly or through aggregators. Bands that might want your service will be the ones that can't be bothered to do the aggregator leg work themselves - you might be better off doing that as a professional service with your product being doing the work for them, rather than you being an actual label. Anyone can get on iTunes / Amazon etc now by using the right aggregator, but iTunes and Amazon still take a chunky percentage - I can't see a new band wanting to pay you a percentage as well. If I couldn't be bothered to do it myself, or didn't have time to learn the process I would certainly prefer to pay a flat fee where I give you my fully recorded product and you deal with the bar-coding & registrations and getting it to an aggregator, and then your task is over.
It's another avenue for an artist to sell their music though. I sell via Bandcamp, Amazon, iTunes, CD Baby etc, but not everyone shops via them, and it's very easy for your music to get lost amongst everything else, and they're going to push for what's going to sell in big quantities, and ignore the much smaller artist. Whereas a small and specialist company will have more time for you, and the buyers from that specialist company will kind of know what they're getting, be it a small company that specialises in selling solo guitar music, or in my case experimental/ambient music. I had a company last week offer to release my stuff, which is great. They specialise in ShoeGaze, ambient, instrumental etc, so there's a market there already with their customers. I did a track for a compilation album that they released last year. As an artist, you can't narrow down your avenues for exposure. -
To light a fire, or keep a fire burning, you need 3 things....fuel, heat and oxygen. take one or more away and.....no fire. To make a bass sound good, you need four things. A decent finger or plectrum technique, a bass that suits the style of music you are playing, a reasonable quality amp, and some decent speakers. This is ' the chain' in the order that it happens, and one must drive and support the one that follows it. Many folks think by having one or two of these four requirements they will get the sound they want, and many folks are disappointed that they fall short of this elusive sound. I spent 25 years buying the best gear I could afford at the time, but never really got there, as I was buying for example ' the amp ' without considering how it would sound with the rest of the gear In the overall mix of ' the four .' Buying without thinking things through, can often result in a bass player ending up with a fantastic rig (as individual component parts,) yet it sounds crap as they are not matched to each other. I would always suggest , start at the beginning by asking a few simple questions... Do I use or prefer finger or plectrum.....this has a huge effect on the sound you will create..... Is the bass I am using capable of creating the sound I want....? Not all basses can create that funky sound, and not all are good at bone crunching low end. Amp and cabs are more of a personal choice, but some amps will start to distort and grind at lower pre amp levels, so if mid to highs are what you want, Orange gear might not be the right choice, whereas TC or Markbass might do the trick. The last thing in the chain is the cab. A 15" speaker will rearrange you intestine, whereas 8 or 10 " speakers will take the top off a boiled egg at 100yds. 15s are fantastic at low to mids, and if you stick in a horn they sound brilliant, but they just can't 'snap' back as quick as an 8 or 10 can...... I am not being a know all, or a smart arse.....far from it, as I would not have taken 25 years and spent £1000's on gear I probably didn't need.. All I am trying to say is think thru, and ask advice before you flush your hard earned cash unnecessarily round the 'S' bend...
I once saw Anthony Jackson doing a masterclass at my uni. He was playing his Fodera through a clapped out Ashdown rig and sounded awesome. In my experience it has nothing at all to do with the gear, it's all the player. Guys on here spend a fortune every year buying stuff, and then moving it on because it doesn't make them sound any better.

I'm kind of interested in something like this - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00BMQ7R8E/ref=s9_simh_gw_p267_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0MX5N9D25MEY8V0KCMTM&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=455344027&pf_rd_i=468294 Or maybe the George L's. At the moment I'm just using some ready made Planetwaves things. Problem is they're not really the right length, and they're all angled jacks, and I want some angled and some straight. Are these things easy to assemble without soldering (I'm pretty dangerous with a soldering iron ) Can you use angled and straight jacks ?

Anyone use these and know of a decent carry case ? I bought one from amazon but it was quite frankly rubbish. It needs to be light but strong. 😊
Anyone who has emailed Thomann about problems with an order already delivered - how long before they have replied? Looks like they have only one email contact address and no direct access to the person designated as 'your contact person'.
Same day, maybe next day. There's a long list of email address on the website. -
All my recordings feature loads of it, I use an eBow a lot, it's useful to keep that level even.
Good to see that there's still a lot of appreciation for soundtracks that are specifically scored to fit to the film and not simply a collection of someone's favourite songs shoe-horned around the dialogue. I have to admit though I own a lot of soundtrack CDs for some very awful films that have been bought simply because they contained a track by an artist I liked that wasn't available anywhere else.
Good point, I think a lot of suggestions so far have been films with songs in them, rather than actual real soundtracks. The blues brothers for instance.

I can only praise Thomann. I bought a pair of Genelec monitors from them in November, one went wrong at the weekend, so I emailed them Sunday, Monday I had a reply and a return shipping label, I sent it back Monday afternoon, yesterday I had an email confirming receipt and saying that they were fixing it. Do many UK stores offer a 3 year warranty on top of the manufacturers ? -
I regularly listen to the Bladerunner soundtrack. It's very atmospheric. Oh and don't forget The soundtrack to 'Superfly' by Curtis Mayfield. A work of funky genius.
Oooh, while I'm not into Curtis Mayfield at all, I do really like the Bladerunner soundtrack, it's one of my favourite films too. That looks veeeeerrry cool on crimson vinyl

I like the scores that Clint Mansell has done with the Kronos Quartet, particularly The Fountain. Jonny Greenwood's There Will be Blood is good too.

Maybe have 2 smaller boards, configured so you can just connect them together ?
