How about a new section to the forum to discuss music ?
I personally find the notification list on any of my mobile devices absolutely useless. Tap on notifications and it won't load, it just hangs. I've never been able to access the list on the mobile site...and i don't want email notifications they just clog up my in box. Even on the desktop site the notification list can take ages to load. (and that's on a mac, pc using various browsers, the experience is the same).
And also you'd be getting notifications about postings you maybe weren't interested in anyway. A separate forum thing, there'd be headings from posters as to the genre etc. -
Really like this stuff dude (first link won't work for me though). Really nice stuff. Get it mastered though... Way too quiet!! What's your signal chain look like for this stuff?

I like it unmastered personally
It actually is mastered , just kind of very quiet and discreetly. I use an Apple Logic Pro X mastering plugin that I've customised, turned the multiband compressor down, added a limiter and a nice reverb. You lose the effect of the music if it's too loud. The idea is for the music to draw you into it, you expect the next note and hold onto the previous one with your mind. For the however minutes that you're listening to it, there's nothing else, just the music. It helps loads if you close your eyes too. Listen to this guy, he's a master at it, and makes some really beautiful music - https://www.youtube....7M&spfreload=10 https://www.youtube....nY&spfreload=10 There's another new piece here - https://soundcloud.c...ne-brief-moment just a rough demo at the moment, and it's probably only about half finished, I get ideas all the time, it's just finding time to finish them.

Maybe me being cynical and suspicious/totally untrusting of people , but the son's checking his dad's emails ? Strikes me as being a bit odd. Personally I would leave things, and leave the Paypal dispute in place.
Isn't there a long running 'what are you listening to now?' thread?
That quickly gets pushed down the general discussion forum, and lost. Plus your postings quickly get lost amongst the others. -

Not our personal music, but music that we come across ? We are all musicians after all, and probably listen to an awful lot of it between us over the course of a week. There's so much music out there, probably more than there has ever been before at any point in history. The problem is finding it. I've come across a couple of guys on here due to my particular tastes in music, they've just been chance things, and we exchange PM's etc. So it maybe be a way to make new friendships ? I personally discovered 2 great new ambient music composers yesterday, the guy who's my dissertation supervisor introduced them to me. -
So fed up of him gurning over his piano in that christmas ad, wish someone would run in and slam his fingers in the bloody thing! I don't watch much tv but I'm already sick of the supermarket christmas ads and it's not even December. Christmas is my favourite time of year and these money grabbing *$&! bags really do make it that much less special when it finally arrives .
I so agree with you. It's always been my favourite time of the year too. I've always hated the commercialisation of it, ever since I was a child, this year though it's gotten out of all proportions, the supermarkets must be spending absolutely horrendous and frankly disgusting amounts of money on the TV campaigns. They seem to be in panic mode.
Nope, it was removed within half hour of the PayPal payment being made. I have looked at the credit card thing and it keeps coming up with "merchant" which it was not, it was a private individual. I will try it with Paypal as the "merchant". Credit card site says; 1. Must leave it until 30 days after transaction 2. They will report their findings back with 21 days of claim being received. So, about another 7 weeks before I get to know one way or another. 5 years ago I lost a bass and £600 to Italy courtesy of Paypal and I vowed never again, but last week 2 basses I was interested in were both Paypal only. DEFINITELY never again, sell them to somebody else.
Maybe get on the phone to your credit card people and say you think your card has been used without your knowledge, you've just noticed a Paypal payment go out that wasn't yours ? Lying I know, but sometimes you have no choice.

I bought something off eBay last year, before I had a Paypal account, the guy never sent the item, Paypal didn't want to know because I'd paid as a guest. My bank, Nattiest refunded me with 48 hours.

This is seriously brilliant, the tracking is amazing, especially on synth and string sounds. I bought it ti use in a bass duo that I'm playing with, it's not really required though, I bought it before we'd started writing, and could use the cash toward some effects pedals. I've just bought a pair of Genelec powered monitors, so my trusty Yamaha HS80M's are for sale. These are really excellent, very accurate powered monitors, in perfect cosmetic condition, and in full working order. They're apparently the descendant of the NS10's, but I think that may be more a cosmetic thing than anything. Here's a review - http://www.soundonso.../yamahas80m.htm I still have the original boxes and packaging, but I'd rather buyers collect, they're pretty heavy, and obviously quite fragile. They're currently at my parents house in Birmingham. Photos to follow. £150 the pair.

It's funny I just have bass, mid and treble controls and don't really use them very much.

How to play a song in Eb - drop tuning etc
ambient replied to stefBclef's topic in Theory and Technique
Bear in mind that there's a low Db in there, in the original riff, so even in E you'd want to tune down to get that. -
Anyone tried one ? You can get one for free if you buy 2 other pedals http://www.tcelectronic.com/presents-for-all/

Low end do a nice one, there's on advertised in the basses for sale section.

How to play a song in Eb - drop tuning etc
ambient replied to stefBclef's topic in Theory and Technique
We just played this at uni last week, the intro, first verse and first chorus, on bass, then had to play the rest on synth bass. I play a 6, so had no problem, those on a 4 string either tuned the whole bass down a semi-tone, so they still had the 4th tuning, others just tuned the E to Eb. It's up to whatever you feel comfortable with. -
new album, what to charge? or give it away?
ambient replied to winterfire666's topic in General Discussion
The analogy also breaks down in that recorded music can be replicated infinitely with no effort, whereas coffee requires a significant amount of labour to produce every single individual copy. It's not that they can "afford to give music away", it's that they know what they're doing and are with the times. You're essentially saying that they shouldn't do it because you don't want them to, even though they can make their recordings as available as they desire. If you really think that distributing your recorded portfolio with bytes is all "just for nothing" then just don't bother. All creative fields do it, it's easier now than ever before, and only certain musicians want change for it. You're right in that it's not about getting a foot in the door; it's about putting some shoes on first before going out there.
But they're not giving it away, U2 got paid by iTunes, it was iTunes who gave it away. -

I like the way that Bandcamp lets users search for music from the tags that you the artist have put to the music, I don't think that applies to either Amazon or iTunes. I've had people contact me via Bandcamp that have just found my music on there. I'm doing a collaboration with a guy that used to be in Rothko for instance, he just happened to come across my music, just through the search function and the tags. -
I have some Bach inventions from my degree course that are really challenging, but very nice to play. The Bach chorales are cool too.
