Just bought James's Zon Sonus. A great easy deal, he very kindly held it for me until my student loan came through.

Comparing EUBs - how does the Aria SWB compare to the NS Design?
ambient replied to Marc S's topic in EUB and Double Bass
SLB100 on ebay at the moment http://www.ebay.co.u...=item3395e1662e
That's an SLB100, it's not semi hollow, it's the SLB200 that has the cavity. I can testify about the weight, that's partly why I'm selling mine. -
Tips for learning how to do backing vocals while playing
ambient replied to BassYerbouti's topic in General Discussion
I had to do this for one semester in my first year at uni. I was dreadful at it, not helped by the fact that I can't sing ! I found that I had to 'switch off', if I though about one or the other things, then it all went wrong. You need to really know the bass part, and the vocal part, and basically just do it on auto pilot. -

Computers and recording software help needed
ambient replied to Captain Rumble's topic in General Discussion
I use Logic, mainly because of my university work, but I find it easy and reliable too. I bought a MacBook Pro last year, and I got a pretty good discount from the Apple shop, you just need to prove that it's for your studies. I'm doing music, so your son doing music tech will have no problem. I can't remember my discount, but I think it was about 15%, so it's a pretty good one. I took out Apple care too, that's the insurance warranty thing. The discount on that was even better. I think I paid a total of about £900 for both. Logic Pro X, is available from the app store, check though, my university is still using Logic Pro 9. I use a Focusrite Scarlett interface which is pretty amazing (and the same as at uni too), they're available for about £90 (I think). -
Hi. Where are you based Cheers Mick
I divide my time between Birmingham and London where I'm at uni. The bass is in Birmingham, but can easily be brought to London. I can deliver pretty much anywhere for train fare I'm a student and have a YP railcard, so train travel can be very cheap !

I have this post from earlier today http://basschat.co.uk/topic/246090-multi-effects/page__pid__2563138#entry2563138 So, I'm guessing I can maybe just use the effects in MainStage/Logic Pro, and my interface (Focusrite Scarlett 2i2) into my amp ? I have a Softstep midi pedal that I could use to control the things in MainStage. My gigs fall into 2 categories - 1) Normal gigs, no effects and a real amp. 2) I'm starting to do some ambient type gigs, and have a few very interesting projects in the pipeline. These are quite small affairs, and I'll just plug whatever into my amp.
If it's portability & sound quality that you need, then going down this route might be a more suitable option... http://basschat.co.u...igging-bassist/
You know that's something that occurred to me earlier I've just got back from Bristol, my entire journey there and back was spent mulling over whether and how to use my macbook instead of effects. My gigs fall into 2 categories. 1) Normal gigs, no effects and a real amp. 2) I'm starting to do some ambient type gigs, and have a few very interesting projects in the pipeline. These are quite small affairs, and I'll just plug whatever into my amp. So, I'm guessing I can maybe just use the effects in MainStage/Logic Pro, and my interface ? I have a Softstep midi pedal.
I just bought a Zoom B3...to take over from a nice Lexicon MPXG2. The Lexicon is a great unit but doesn't fit in my gig bag like the Zoom does.
Thanks for the reply 😊 the G2 in a smaller package would be my dream effects 😊 Does it get anywhere neat ?

I'm after a multi effects, can anyone recommend a good one ? Over the summer I put together a bit of a pedal board with some nice effects, but it got a bit silly, and heavy. So I sold them and bought a Boss GT10, this was amazing, but extremely heavy. I travel by train and tube, so it needs to be fairly compact and light. It's specifically reverbs, delays, chorus and some filter sounds that I need, and I want to be able to control the parameters, and combine them. This is what I managed with my GT10 https://ambient-bassist.bandcamp.com/track/after-all It has to be able to do something like this. Your opinions would be much appreciated.
I've owned both the SLB-100 and the SLB-200 and whilst the 200 has a lot going for it, if I had the choice I'd still buy the 100, it's a magnificent instrument, typical of Yamaha at their best, and with a second PUP to support the onboard PUP and circuit (which are designed largely to drive headphones - which they do very well - as opposed to being amplified for live use), probably as good an EUB as you'll get.
Thanks for the comments, it is a great bass, and really nice looking, very solid
Transcribe, although I'm not entirely sure you can run it on a mac!
Transcribe works fine on Mac's, I use it exactly for the purpose mentioned by the OP. You can also use Logic or Garageband for the same purpose, just import the song you're learning as an audio file.

For me at least, music is a language. You wouldn't just learn a few French or Italian phrases parrot fashion, without knowing how and where to use them, may be a bit embarrassing asking a priest for directions, and actually telling him you fancy his sister Music is the same, if you take a bit of time to learn a few simple things, it'll pay you back a hundred fold. Just my opinion.

For sale, mainly because I want something smaller and lighter for train/tube use, is my beautiful Yamaha SLB100 Silent bass. This is a really beautiful instrument, it plays and sounds pretty much like a 'real' DB. It has the detachable side pieces and the knee rest. Currently fitted with a Fishman Full circle pickup, as well as the Yamaha Piezo. It does have a few very small bumps, but absolutely nothing that affects playability in any way. It's a big bass, so these are to be expected, and are mainly on the back and sides of the instrument. It comes complete with the original gig bag. Collection only, I wouldn't even consider shipping it, although delivery is an option, for train fare

A couple of the guys I'm teaching at the moment are total, or were total novices. They just accept that I'm teaching them scales, how scales are constructed, how chords are derived from scales, and dare I say........sight reading

It's kind of like buying a really great book, and just reading the last chapter.
It's awesome that you did it with bass only... Great ambience. I really like it.
Thanks ! Seriously pleased that you like it !

I can't say that I blame him. My sister-in-law sold stuff on eBay for years. Then she sold an unwanted wedding present, the buyer said it was faulty (which it wasn't, it was brand new and in full working order). She said return it then, thinking she'd just get the receipt from whoever gave it her, and take it back to the shop. She got back an empty box ! And the buyer gave her negative feedback !

Some nice, soothing and reflective music. Quite a bit shorter than a lot of my recent tracks. https://ambient-bassist.bandcamp.com/track/on-waking Comments are welcomed
