1.
Have checked those out!!! Blimey, they are funky!! You are now both my official music recommenders, I have loved everything you have suggested (and have downloaded a few albums with a £25 lottery win I had on Saturday!)
Not wanting to cost you any more money , but there's an excellent version of Jacobs Ladder on the live at the O2 album. 2. P basses never seem to work for me somehow. A guy I know has a P with a Jazz pickup fitted, sounds nice and is very versatile, he plays pretty much everything with it.
3. You have a fantastic collection of basses !
4. I look on ERBs as being a separate instrument to regular bass 😊
5.
I've little experience of ERBs really having only tried out a Seven breifly but I'd imagine that with any more than Seven (possibly Eight at a push) strings you would be unable to reach around the fretboard to play it in the conventional manner, meaning it would essentially become a tapping instrument? I can't see them displacing instruments played in the conventional manner but I guess they could be fun as a curiosity...
Check out Yves Carbonne http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hPwMoiKaNOY
6. I think the funkiest album is probably 100 degrees and rising. Features Randy Hope-Taylor and my personal favourite Julian Crampton. If you want to check out more Julian Crampton funkiness then I strongly recommend Joey Negro and the Sunburst band.
7. I think it's that Rotosound strings aren't particularly good, they sound a bit dead from opening the packet. Try Dunlop Super brights. Quality strings are more expensive, but they do tend to last longer, so to me at least, it makes sense to spend a bit more. I'm a student, so I don't have a lot of money to throw around
8. My sister-in-law is a Macmillan nurse, and my Mom unfortunately is recovering from cancer treatment now, and has used their services during her treatment. I'd rather just give money to them though, this ice bucket thing is starting to get annoying
£25 posted? XD
I guess
10.
Bloomin' 'eck! Am I reading the price of these things right at around £230?!! Looks like a lot of nice bass for the money. Good score
WHAAAAT ! £230 ? That's a great looking bass, and for that price, spending a bit extra on a good set-up by a good luthier is well worth it.
11. He's right though isn't he ? If someone pays by Paypal, then collects it, how does he prove that it's been delivered ?
12. I'd recommend lessons personally. I'm in Birmingham at the moment and teach, there's one guy comes to me once a fortnight. He's made fantastic progress after only 3 lessons, he couldn't even fret notes properly at his first lesson.
13. I wouldn't use anything bigger than a 130 for a B. I tend to use a 125. I have a set of nickel 125 to 30 fodera strings you can have if you want them, they've had very minimal usesge, you just need to get an F string from somewhere to match - I also have an 020 circle k 😊 If you want them pm me and I'll post them to you 😊
14. Try Circle K strings, you can choose your string tension.
15.
That label came long after the scene was gone, I think it was applied by American listeners. It was bands who were signed to the Creation label in the early '90s. Ride, Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, Swervedriver, etc.
Still going, check out Engineers for example - http://www.kscopemusic.com/artists/engineers/
16. For sale until Sunday only, the it's being withdrawn.
17. I've heard good things about these - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/7-STRING-ACTIVE-BASS-BY-MAZETI-including-goodies-/141387234512?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item20eb55fcd0 Here's an Ibanez - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/IBANEZ-BTB7-NTF-Limited-Edition-Sondermodell-7-String-E-Bass-NEU-NEW-/251622524478?pt=Gitarren&hash=item3a95df063e
18. There's this one that's advertised on here - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/240107-final-price-drop-fs-conklin-gt7-only-l800/page__fromsearch__1 If I was going to get a 9, and I'd want one then same spec as you, then I'd get one built by this guy - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/240107-final-price-drop-fs-conklin-gt7-only-l800/page__fromsearch__1 maybe the shapes are a bit esoteric, but the prices are good, and the craftsmanship is amazing. He's also a member on here. Ibanez do a 7 that looks pretty good, I've never played one, but I did try a 6 and was pretty impressed. http://www.ibanez.co.jp/eu/news/f_products/2013/BTB7/index.html
19. I'd like a 7 string, but I have to 'justify' owning an instrument, I have to have a need for one. At the moment everything I want to do, I can do with my 6. The Conklin's look amazing value for money if you're after a 7 string. Personally I'd go for high F, rather than a low F#, I like the chordal and high register playing stuff.
20. Are your strings all the same age/brand/type ? Maybe look at how you play them. Are you playing each string with the same force and dynamics, and using the same part of each plucking finger ? If you put your fingers together, your 2nd finger is longer than your index, so using 2 fingers to pluck, you will get a difference in tone because of the angles and dynamics of the fingers hitting the strings. You'll find it's just a matter of practice, i.e. practice playing scales or whatever, and try to play each note the same with both fingers. A compressor is really just to even out the dynamics of your playing, not really for the tone.
21. 24 Hour price drop. £1200 only, grab a bargain !
