I wouldn't get credit, I'm a student. It's the Eastman 80. I'm probably gonna go for the £40, after 3 months if you decide to buy, they offset what you've paid in rental against the buy it price.

As you can see from my other thread, and my wanted advert, I'm in the market for a cheap'ish double bass . I really want something 2nd hand, I'm going to be using it for small gigs and a bit of busking for a latin/jazz set that my one band plays. I'm also maybe leaning towards the rental thing. There's a shop not too far from me called Bassbags - http://www.bassbags.co.uk/Double-Bass-Hire.html You can rent an Eastman double bass for £40 a month, or £70 with the rent to buy scheme, after 24 months the bass is yours. The guy at the shop seems incredibly friendly and helpful. All the basses are totally set up before they leave the shop, new strings, top nut, bridge and fingerboard are planed to match, the sound post is adjusted etc. So it all seems great . Are these basses any good though ? Or would I maybe be better off getting something used in a month or so when I've more cash ? Thanks in anticipation of your wise words !

Shops on eBay selling stuff they don't have !
They are definitely misleading the buyers Delivery: Estimated between Fri. 8 Aug. and Mon. 11 Aug. Seller ships within 1 day after receiving cleared This is very much suggesting that they would have it in stock or get it within a day to dispatch. That would therefore lead me to buy from them where if I knew the reality I wouldn't buy from them and I would buy elsewhere. False claims are not good....
That's why I ordered them, I was expecting them to be delivered last week, and was surprised when they didn't turn up. I gave it until yesterday then contacted them only to be told they weren't in stock. Very annoying all round really. -
Surely the only thing that matters is if the goods arrive in good time? I can't see anything wrong with 'drop-shipping' direct from the original supplier. Indeed, one could ask what is the point of an online retailer taking delivery of something so they can then open it up, check it, put it on their shelf, then re-package it and send it to an online customer. Stock is only important if someone wants to go to a physical shop and look at the physical item.
Is 10 weeks good time ? That's what it will have been if I keep my order with them . 8 weeks if you order today from them. Plus they should say. If you see something on Thomann's website, it says "goods in stock ready to ship", or "can be ordered and despatched within...." Sorry, but I'm really annoyed that I've had to chase them about the order, only to be told they don't have them, and won't have them until the middle of September. -
I don't think there's anything wrong with advertising products you don't have in stock. However, it should be made clear to you within a reasonable time from ordering
I guess a reasonable time maybe ok, but not telling me they still haven't got them 2 weeks after ordering, and they're not getting them for another 7 or 8 weeks is wrong. -
What's really ticking me off is sellers who are actually in china pretending to be shipping from within the uk
You get a similar thing on Amazon too, sellers calling themselves 'CDBargain UK' or something, are either in China or the USA. They're still advertising the stings here, even though they won't have them for another 7 or 8 weeks ! How can you possibly advertise something you don't have in stock ? I bought some Dunlop Super bright strings a couple of weeks ago. I got them from Bass direct, I wanted a 6 string set, but they didn't have one, the guys at Bass direct did their best to track down a high C for me, but the UK distributor wasn't aware that they made a 6 string set. So I bought two 5 string sets, taking advantage of the rather good 2 for 1 deal that Bass direct were doing at the time. I found a German dealer selling the 6 string sets on eBay, so I ordered a set. I don't find that the C needs changing too often, so I only change it maybe every other string change. Two weeks later they still haven't arrived, so I emailed them. This is the reply I received this morning - 'Hi, I'm really sorry, we didn't ship the strings, yet. I just called our Dunlop distributor and they shifted the delivery date. I'm really sorry for the trouble and the lack of information. We'll receive the next delivery of these strings on 18.09. If you want to wait until then, we'll give you 5,00 € discount on your order, if you don't want to wait we'll cancel and refund your order immediately. We apologise for any inconvenience that this may have caused you. Thank you for your patience and best wishes! How can you advertise something that you haven't physically got in stock, they're still advertising them now ! This is the 2nd time this year something like this has happened, I ordered a book from someone on there, it didn't arrive so I emailed only to be told the same thing.

This looks to be what I'm after, something old with character that I don't have to worry too much about with regard to carrying it on the train and tube . It's also in my price range. I'm a bit concerned the guy has moved the bridge though !
I've owned a couple of status and both have been great, one with a truss and one without, I hear great things about the Peavey Quad and would take a close look if one came up for grabs on here. The musicman cutlass is a tempting beautie, I just can't help thinking that I'd like a truss rod with my graphite neck these days, with no truss rod the only way to change relief is via string gauge which is not ideal, I think that if that cutlass had a truss I'd be buying the wife some flowers some time soon and possibly spending a night or two sleeping at a mates house! Another big positive I think for Status basses is that Rob and Dawn are so easily contactable, unrivalled customer care from the man himself! Can't go far wrong with that. What are people's thoughts / experiences of graphite necks with or without truss rods?
Never played one without, but like you, I'd be happier with one, despite the fact that I've never had to adjust mine.

Is this the one advertised on Gumtree, in Manchester ? It's advertised as being an Antonelli.

I guess it needs to be a bit narrower than the slot to allow for glue ? I suppose it depends how visible you want the lines too ? 😊
I've said before, and undoubtably will say again, but we should have a 'like' button on this site. They have one on Talkbass . Only I'd have used it here, I like everything about that photo .

A fantastic compressor pedal, in mint condition with box and instructions. From the Demeter website - The sound of classic studio optical compression of the 60's and 70's at your feet! The first compressor pedal not to suck the life out of your tone. Operation is fairly straightforward. There are two inputs on the front side of the unit: a 1/4" input jack on the right and a 1/4" output jack on the left with a battery-ground switch on the input jack. There are two controls on the unit: compress and volume, plus a foot switch to bypass the effect, and an LED to indicate effect operation. On the side there is a trim pot to set the overall gain of the unit. Compress affects the amount of gain reduction (compression) of the input signal. Turning this clock wise will give you up to 30dB of gain reduction (depending on input gain). £115 including postage.

This is a very reluctant sale, I will however be buying another stick in the very, very near future, but I have the chance to buy a very special instrument at the moment, so needs must ! This is a black dyed Padauk stick, with gold coloured mother of pearl inlays, and gold and black machine heads. The action is incredibly low, allowing very easy playing. It is currently tuned in baritone melody tuning. The sale includes an official Stick enterprises plastic hard case, a leather strap, stereo cable, and a stereo to mono adaptor cable that I had built to allow you to connect to a normal bass amp. The Stick, case and accessories are in perfect condition. Potential buyers are more than welcome to come over and try it, currently the instrument is in Birmingham, but I travel to London most weeks. £[s]1500[/s] [s]£1400.[/s] Now £1150 until Sunday only, then the bass I want will be sold, so this will be withdrawn from sale ! Shipping is possible, but I would rather personal collection, or I can deliver for train fare. If the instrument that I want to buy is sold, then I'll withdraw this, because it is a really beautiful instrument that I love playing.
See my story about DPD above. No message, no collection, no service. I've used Parcelforce many times and never had any problem except one late delivery for which I got my money back.
Fingers crossed you never have to claim for a damaged instrument 😊.

You are a weird lot , you're on stage, playing music that people like or you wouldn't be playing them, and yet you're moaning. I hate pretty much 99% of what I have to play at an average function gig, it bares little resemblance to what I listen to at home or on the train, but I get off on the fact that I'm doing something I love, and the audience are enjoying themselves.
-
I think there's something to 'find' in everything you play, regardless of how involved the part is. You just need to feel it.
Don't leave the bass?
Well if it's something simple like soldering, otherwise they may have it for ages and ages.

Just traded my TC Flashback x4 for Kieron's Memoryman. A quick and simple transaction. Very cool to deal with.
