1. Something I've been experimenting with recently. I'd say at the end too, but experiment.
2. I bought my beloved Modulus from there, arrived the next day, exactly as described, actually it was like new. I also just took advantage of the 2 for 1 offer on Dunlop Super bright strings, they too arrived the next day. They even tried (unsuccessfully) to track down a C string for me (they only had 5 string sets in stock), but they did try. I like them.
3. I don't know it could still work for you. I'd make a point if agreeing a few things first of all, get it writing even. Have someone at the event handing out flyers and business cards for your band maybe ? I did a free gig with one of my jazz bands a couple of Christmases ago, it was really enjoyable and we picked up a few gigs from it.

Trades welcomed for an EBS Octabass pedal.

Bump.
6. I'm maybe doing some live work for someone. This is a very short excerpt of one of the songs, what effect would get that nice deep synth sound ? https://soundcloud.com/ambient-bassist/best-in-me I have Digitech synth wah, but that really doesn't get anywhere close.
7. I quite like Avishai Cohen - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4kc0Aby2vA Though he can play fast too when the moment suits - Love the sound he gets from the Jazz bass
8. 2 Comfort straps.
9. Another cool thing with the comfort strap is being able to double up the strap where it connects with the strap lock. 😊
10. I found quite a few threads on talkbass about them when I was considering them. 😊
11.
I have tried zillions of straps, including mono and comfort but I have settled on the gruvgear duostrap. It distributes the weight across both shoulders. It is relatively expensive and takes some getting used of, but I would not be without it now.
I went to a clinic a few years ago with Michael Manring, he was using 2 comfort straps (I guess 1 long 1 short), he'd got them on in a similar manner to the duo strap. Don't know if that's where Gruv gear got the idea from. 😊
12. There was a guy selling one the other day.
13.
20mm? Whoa, that is super-wide! I always thought MTD 6ers (like mine) were considered to have fairly wide spacing at 18mm!
What MTD have you got ? I'd love one of the Andrew Gouche Kingston models. The Yamaha TRB6 was truly an amazing bass, I was really loathe to sell it. I had it advertised 2 or 3 times and changed my mind, the spacing was too wide though.
14. Kind of blue for jazz, my first exposure to jazz as a teenaged bassist. Duke - my first introduction to Genesis. Wish you were here - my older bother played me this once on holiday, totally blew me away. If this bass could only talk by Stanley Clarke, first heard it when I was maybe 16 or something. Phaedra by Tangerine dream. The planets by Holst, we were played it at primary school in assembly, 1 suite per day. It was my first time really listening to classical music. Joni Mitchell - Hejira - my first time hearing Jaco.
15.
too tight or not tight enough?
Too wide, it's something like 20mm. My Modulus is only about 17mm.
16. You may actually find that it's the string spacing that's affecting you more than the scale length. 34" to 35" is only an inch spread across the fretboard, I don't notice switching from 34" scale to 35" and back again, but I did find the spacing on the TRB6 that I had to be somewhat awkward, and the fingerboard radius is very flat. I've said many times that you need to try as many 6's as possible before buying one.
17. Glad you got something you're happy with !
18.
To cut a long story short I love my Warwick Corvette and wish to keep it however my shoulder doesn't agree! The bass comes in at 6kilos! I've been considering getting a mono strap to help with the weight issue But at the moment I'm unemployed and the £36 is quite a bit of an expense but if it saves my shoulder from getting buggered. basically my question is "Are Mono straps worth the money?" Cameron
I found them to be too long, even the short one is very long even at its shortest. I just couldn't get comfortable with it. I'm not a Mark King wannabe either . I use a comfort strapp, which I find to be excellent.

8 x 10's

Never owned one, but they do look very cool. I remember seeing an EBS 8x10 a few years ago, it looked amazing, I dread to think why it weighed though.
20. Ghost in the machine is probably my favourite Police album. I missed out on them at the time (only 6 when they split up), but got introduced to them via my uncle and my 1 brother. We used to have a great video filmed while they were recording the album, I don't think it's available on DVD though.
21. I read somewhere about someone sending a bolt on necked bass in 2 parts. Seems like a good idea, especially if there's no hard case. You could detach the neck, and really go to town with bubble wrap, use a large, deep, rectangular box.
22. It's not a new thing though breaking into vans, I was reading the other day about King crimson having all their stuff nicked out of a tour van years ago, and return to forever back in the 70's. I think most insurance policies are worded that items mustn't be left unattended too.
23.
The T word is first Transport, costing, parking, gear safety and security. Get the wrong and the Tour comes to an immediate end. Gangs follow vans from venues of non local bands , it's a sure hit they will be parking up at some digs. They never have any reservations about unloading the van late at night...
That's why I'd make contact with other bands, do support gigs for them, you may even get somewhere to stay out if it, even if it's just someone's sofa 😊
24.
As a receiving customer I have found all of the companies bad at some point apart from Parcelforce and DPD. UPS are the most shocking (lying about it being left with someone, not leaving cards, not even attempting to open gate (as I watched out of window)) DPD are the only company that actually use the technology available. Message send before parcel dispatched so you can arrange a different day before the first attempt. Message received on day of delivery in the morning stating what time parcel will arrive (within an hour) and it has always met that time. Missed deliveries and having to attempt to deliver the same parcel more than once and then store it, handle it etc,. must be the biggest monetary waste the companies have but only DPD seem to be doing anything to help it. I always use Parcelforce as it is the easiest as there are literally hundreds of POs I can use so suits me best. The prices are high but the buyer is paying the postage not me....
I've had things delivered by DPD, they do seem to be rather good, it's nice to know when to expect them, they send a text message on the day of delivery giving a time frame of when to expect them, you can change this if it's not suitable. Don't use Parcelforce, as mentioned earlier, they'll take your money for the insurance, but they don't cover musical instruments.
