I don't see the problem with having charts on stage. As long as you're not frantically searching through a sheaf of out of order scraps of paper then it looks perfectly professional.

I use a scanning app and either goodnotes or kindle apps to view them. Goodnotes is excellent, you can add your own notes to whatever you've scanned in. Just make sure you set it not to go to sleep

If you know a major, a minor and a major and minor pentatonic then it's just a matter of moving them about, the fingering is the same for each one. As long as you know your fretboard of course
Running through the changes about to jam with a guitarist who says he plays in a 'jazzy style' "what do you mean Fm7 is F 'minor' 7 ? ....its not, Fm7 is F 'major' 7 ...bloody bassists what the hell do you guys know about music!"
I suppose big m's and little m's can be a bit confusing -
Thanks for all of your replies. It's been well looked after, and I intend to continue looking after it, so I don't foresee anything going wrong with it

Alembic customer service - Anyone had experience?

Maybe try contacting a luthier, JD guitars or someone. I've seen photos of his basses with adjustable nuts. -

It never lets me upload photos, I have to faff about with photobucket all the time.

Is there a difference between the two ? Anyway, I digress A bit of a daft question. As the owner of a very beautiful modulus bass, I was wondering how durable is carbon fibre ? I mean what's its life expectancy ? My bass is 14 years old, though you wouldn't believe it if you saw it . Also how big a job is a re-fret ? It doesn't need one, I don't think it has ever really been played much, but would any luthier be able to do it, or is it something a specialist like Status would have to do ? Sorry for the probably daft questions, but I've really formed an attachment with it.

I have a pair of Yamaha HS80's that are (I think), really nice.

Alembic customer service - Anyone had experience?
ambient replied to Wolverinebass's topic in General Discussion
Isn't there an alembic fan club forum ? Have a look on their website, I'm sure they'll be able to help you. -
I don't think double basses, cellos or violins have truss rods either .
-
I think that it's a little unwise to dismiss something as being rubbish or badly made, until you've actually held it in your hands and played it . Personally I like art, I also like music and musical instruments, and when you have an instrument that looks like a piece of art, then I think that's brilliant. I particularly like the organic looks of the basses.

Maybe consider getting an old MacBook ? My brother just bought my niece an old white plastic bodied one for £100, she kept on coming around and using mine all yet time, usually when I needed it myself . It's got GarageBand on it, and could easily run an older version of logic.

I have a set of D'daddario half wounds that have had maybe an hours use. Nice strings, and expensive too, but I didn't like them so much. They're a 6 string set, they're advertised in the sales section.

Why is it so hard to find decent brass players?
ambient replied to shizznit's topic in General Discussion
Maybe approach local brass tutors in your area, ask if they know of any good students looking for gigs. -

ambient replied to Bilbo's topic in General Discussion
I had the one where I'm given a set list 2 weeks before the gig, I turn up to find I've been given the wrong set list . They have 2 bands, a small one and a large one, with 2 different set lists. I knew about half the songs and had to busk the rest. -
Are you sure you get to use your bass ? My audition we couldn't use an instrument, we were just given a root note as a reference and had to use our knowledge of intervals etc. Start with the rhythm and then go onto the melody, you usually get marks for both so if the pitch is wrong, you'll still get something for the correct rhythm. Not personally, I think you just need to check the requirements of whatever software you're planning on using.
