1. You get a certain sound with a pick that you don't get using your fingers. The 'attack' is different. Ive always used my fingers to play, but we have songs coming up at uni soon that require a pick, so it's something I'm working on too.
2.
Can almost get a bass that looks new for that. A serious note though, the price is suffering from taxes and import duties etc.
Sill over $4,200 though, a lot of money. I know it's a cool bass, but . 3.
Miles who???
Some trumpet playing dead guy, I believe he could play a bit, and was quite cool.
4. Isn't the Pino bass a custom shop instrument ? When I looked the other week it was something like £3,000 from GAK .
5. One of my tutors at uni buys recycled cardboard wallets and uses a stamp to print them herself.
6. The last time I looked on the site there was a beautiful build diary for (I think) a jazz bass, it showed his attention to detail.
7. Talk about loyalty, something that's sadly lacking in most areas of life today. What about this from Ron Carter though ?
8. Some great looking basses here, I may soon be joining this merry band . Gotta say I've never actually played an Overwater, though I have heard one often enough to know how they can sound.
9. The bravewood was probably the most realistic looking relic that I've seen. More often than not they just don't look right. You think, well why would the paint be worn off there ? I mean who wears clothes with sleeves made out of sandpaper ? I think fender started using poly finish in about 1963, that just wouldn't wear on the top through the action of someone's sleeve.
10. Is it a relic you're after ? There's a Nash is the sales section. I played a bravewood relic a few years ago, it was really quite odd, it didn't just look old, but it felt it too, it genuinely seemed to be old.
11. Wow, great looking bass .
12. I think it's to do with the key signature. If you look at E major for instance, it's got 4 sharps, C, D, F and G. So if you harmonised that scale you wouldn't call the 3 chord A flat, it's going to be G sharp. Bb has 2 flats, B and E. Harmonising that you wouldn't call the 4 chord D sharp, it's going to be E flat.
13. Makes you wonder why London currently has its jazz festival running for the 21st year in a row, surely if it really is so universally disliked, nobody would turn up for it, so it'd be a waste of time, or maybe it's just this thread that's a waste of time .
14. The truss rod adjustment looks to be slightly offset, I know there's concern sometimes about Fender's QC, but I've never seen one where the truss rod adjustment is under the A string .
15. Now interested in trades for any 6 string bass, not just fretless. I also have cash to offer as well for the right bass. A Modulus fretless 6 would be amazing, but equally interested in Zon, Status, Overwater, Shuker, Sei.
16. My personal all time pick player, shows just how versatile the pick can be in the right hands. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExmJEvdqoKs Who says jazz can't be played with a pick ?
17. It's a sign of the times that this is still available, and whaaaaaaaat a bargain too !
18.
Sorry to be a petty pooper but I'm with the complainant on this one. Peace and quiet at home is something I value highly. It really is no effort to use headphones. I had to go and face off my work shy neversweat of a noisy neighbour at 2 in the morning a few days ago - pissed up and rowing with the fat nightmare he lives with. Not being one to mince words he's been quiet as a mouse since. I expect being told by a bloke in a monkey onsie that he's going to tear your head off and sh*t down your neck is a pretty scary thing !
See this is where the 'like' button would again be great.
19. Steve Lawson is an awesome fretless player, he's very influenced by vocalist like frank Sinatra, plays a 6 string and incorporates a lot of chords. Michael Manring, absolutely amazing player, not of this Earth. Alain Caron. Marcus Miller, believe it or not he plays a lot of fretless, listen to some of his live albums. Mick Kahn from Japan. There's a few to be getting along with
20. Yeah possibly holding too tight. Practice it at home, build up your stamina slowly, set yourself little exercises, a bar of down stoke quarter notes, then a bar of up strokes then a bar alternating between the 2. Use a metronome and start slowly, building up the tempo.
21.
Wonderfu !! long time in my wish list but wallet can't follow. .good luck for the sale !!
Thanks Hopefully this may soon be sold.
22.
Iv just found on another thred that they are almost a copy of a Marleaux bass http://www.marleaux-...s_galerien.html www.marleaux-bass.de And fair enough when you look down the galerie there is one that looks almost the same. Alot of very nice basses as well, Check out the back of the consat !!!
I was gonna say they look a bit Marleaux'ish. Cool looking bass.
23. Here's my TRB6P, straight into Logic X via a Focusrite interface. No eq, effects or anything in Logic, the EQ was set flat on the bass, both controls at 12 o'clock, the mid select switch up. Sorry about the playing I rushed it just so's you can hear it. I've found it to be very versatile, the EQ isn't the most versatile out there, but the bass is over 20 years old. The sound is good from the offset though, the the purpose of the pre is to just add to it. https://soundcloud.com/ambientbassist Just added another quick one, this time with some EQ in Logic. Also some slap as requested, this is quite a versatile bass. The slap sound (excuse the playing, I don't do slap), is better than my Modulus and my Marcus Miller.
24.
No-one is expecting them to write the same songs, but the production, arrangements and quality of songwriting has taken a huge backward step. With regards to production, listen to something off CA and then immediately listen to a dynamically similar track off MP (or Counterparts, even). CA sounds terrible. Arrangements? The solo in Freewill. The break in the middle of AFTK. By-Tor. The play-out of Natural Science. The marimba solo on Mission. The bass line on Enemy Within. I could go on for hours, but I won't...! i'm a big fan. I've got Test for Echo, Vapour Trails, CA, Snakes & Arrows. I've listened to them all hundreds of times. But I'll be honest - I'm struggling to name any memorable moments or melodies.
Your opinion, cool. Not mine though, each has it's own character, and I like the new stuff. That's music though, everyone has an opinion, and everyone's is valid. Some people still hate Bob Dylan for going electric, others don't think there's been a good jazz album since 1950 something or other.
25.
Personally I'm a huge fan of the early stuff. I don't much like Clockwork Angels. That's the great thing about Rush though. Their career spans such a long time and covers so many styles that it is possible (and quite usual) for people to be fans of a certain era but to not like other periods. I really like the simplicity and honesty of Counterparts. And I love Geddy's tone on the Jazz bass(es). I never cared for his Wal sound or style, with those rubber-band Funkmaster strings. Dog Years is the standout track from this Rush era for me. Top lyrics too.
That's it though isn't it ? They have evolved so much over the years, that it's quite possible to like a period but not another. They don't want to keep producing yet another YYZ or Farewell to kings, they've done that, it's in the past this is now.
