1.
I though I'd start it. I'll introduce my 'other family'. ACG Finn Classic singlecut with Armstrong's. Modulus Q5W fretted with U-Retro and Nordstrand's. Modulus Q6 fretted with U-Retro and Bartolini's Modulus Q5 fretless with U-Retro and Bartolini's Steinberger Synapse with U-retro and EMG. I also use the BLI unit (to let me know when the batteries are going down), and the STMP-01 Stomp box (with passive basses, double basses or to set up another tone to switch in when needed). * Feel free to contact me for opinions, experiences and general thoughts on them.* Who's next???
Wow, love your Modulus's or is it Modulii . I gotta Q6, that funnily enough I'm about to fit an East U-retro to replace the Aguilar OBP3. I've been discussing having a custom U-retro made with just the one switch to save drilling another hole.
2. Super locrian or altered scale, 7th mode from melodic minor. Play a pentatonic starting on the minor 3rd which is kinda what the #9 is, in this case a G pentatonic. Mixolydian would work too. Transcribe the bits you like, and then work out what it is harmonically that he's playing.
3. I just bought an Intellitouch clip on tuner from Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Intellitouch-PT10-Mini-Tuner/dp/B002KDHBRU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381707079&sr=8-1&keywords=intellitouch+pt-10 I'm very impressed with it. Tracks easily and accurately from the low B to the high C on my 6's.
4. Beautiful sounding classic bass preamp. 18 volts, 4 knobs which are volume, balance, mid cut or boost, stacked bass and treble cut or boost, and there's a switch that selects the mid frequency for the mid control. Comes with black knobs. £70 posted.
5. Beautiful !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
6.
Maybe something to do with the fact that the "well known bass shop" can't sell barefaced cabs? Frank.
Or just plain doesn't like them and thinks they're actually over priced ?
7.
You've never had back trouble have you?
Once or twice, now I find doing 10 minutes of yoga 4 or 5 times a week prevents it.
8.
Maybe the photos are poor quality for a reason...
9. Gotta say, I've seen 2 of these BF cabs. One had just been bought by a guy, he like me was a bit taken aback by what he'd received, kinda home made but in a good homemade kinda way, ie better than I'd be able to make. Sound wise it was a bit meh, and I didn't like the way the grille rattled. The other was in a well known bass shop, and the owner was of the opinion that it wasn't worth what it had been bought for. Obviously though, everyone is entitled to their own opinions on the cabs.
10. If you're happy with the sound why change just to go lighter ? Use your ears and don't be a sheep.
11. I got mine from Thomann. Ordered Monday and arrived on Wednesday ! It was half the price of the Mono bags, and is in my opinion a lot better, though maybe slightly heavier.
12. Variations on that fill ? Rhythmic variations, miss notes out, play some as quarter notes, 16th notes etc instead of what you already do. Different articulation, slur from one note to the next, or slide. Maybe reverse the order of some of the notes ? Basically use your fill as a spring board to create new ones. Transcribe fills you like on records ?
13. I'm just going from what I read on talkbass the other day.
14.
Since Fender have had a reputation for sh*te quality control for the last 40 years, why is anyone expecting anything different ?.
I don't think it's the quality control that's the only problem. They're built in the USA, then shipped over in containers, and how long does that take ? Then unloaded, loaded onto a lorry, then into a van, then unloaded finally at the shop. Nine times out go ten they're probably just stuck straight up onto display, meaning the buyer has to sort out the set up. In my opinion it's the retailer that's at fault. My Marcus Miller bass is superbly built, as good as any so called boutique instrument. The guy who started this thread bought a new bass from a shop, the shop should have sorted out the instrument before putting it on display, and certainly before selling it.
15. There's set ups and set ups. I don't see the point in taking an instrument just to have the truss rod tweaked, and the action adjusted. But sometimes you need more than that. Frets occasionally have to be dressed, that's definitely not something I'd attempt myself.
16. There's a forum called Statii, that may be the best place to ask. You could also look through the for sale adverts and see what similar basses have gone for recently.
17. Set up is very personal. I've never worked in a guitar shop, but I'm guessing they're out of the box and up on the wall. The only kind of place that'd be different is maybe somewhere like the Gallery ? I shouldn't imagine a 5,000 mile or more journey in a container from the USA to here would do much for whatever set up they had prior to leaving the factory. I have a US built Marcus Miller and that's a great bass. Though I spent a bit of time getting it set up.
18. Just read this last night, Quite sad really, they made some amazing instruments, one of which I'm lucky enough to own.
19. A flat fingerboard is useful. I've always preferred lighter gauge strings too.
20. Anyone tried this ?
21. Very interesting thread, and amp. Pity about some of the guys on here acting like 5 year olds.
22. I've had a few things from Thomann, all have arrived quickly and with absolutely no hassle. I'm looking to buy a new amp, and have decided on a Tecamp Puma. Thomann are selling them for £612, these are selling them for £50 less though http://www.musicstore.de/en_EN/GBP/Basses/Bass-amps-cabinets/TecAmp-Demoger-t-Puma-500-Head/art-BAS0005893-000 Anyone ever ordered anything from them ?
23.
GAK stock Tecamp http://www.gak.co.uk...-puma-500/29873
That's seriously expensive compared with Thomann !
24.
If you hated the Shuttle, maybe the Streamliner would be more your bag.
Yeah, I've been reading about the Streamline today, looks interesting.
