  1. The same rules apply from the north as they do in the south.
  2. No, the courier will pay the VAT for you, then claim it back from you along with a handling charge. They’ll then release your item and deliver it to you.
  3. I’m wrong, I apologise. There’s 2% duty on them too. I’ll amend my post.
  4. Buying or selling a used item of gear is pretty much unchanged for the seller - though there will be paperwork including a customs declaration. If you compete it wrong then the item might get held up. Don’t allow yourself to be talked into under-declaring the value, you’ll run into problems with the insurance should anything get lost or damaged. It’s also against the law. If you’re a buyer then there’s a big change. You or they will be liable for VAT. This is dealt with by the courier who will charge you for doing it. The charges vary, so it’s best to shop around. I checked on the government website last week and duty wasn’t payable on instruments - that’s not to say it isn’t on other items. You obtain a code from the government website, that has to be printed on the customs declaration, that’s used to decide whether a duty charge is applicable.
  5. Thanks. It’s adjustable, but set at 18mm. I’m really happy with it, it’s a beautiful instrument.
  6. Have you a link? If enough people report it they might do something.
  7. Bought new a few months ago, and used only once. It’s one of the best bags I’ve tried. It’s extremely well padded, with lots of pocket space for books and cables etc. A friend recently stopped playing and very kindly gave me a bass complete with a Mono gig bag. SOLD Price includes postage.
  8. I’m reading on Facebook that people are having problems buying items from EU countries through eBay too. They’re able to click ‘buy now’, but then unable to complete the transaction and pay for it.
  9. Why Fender?
  10. Apologies, I was already typing my response before I read your reply.
  11. There’s a lot of spin going on about just what we can do now we’ve completely left. On the Marr show this morning BJ was asked to give some tangible benefits of Brexit, his reply was that the UK can now have freeports and we’ve banned pulse fishing. We had freeports when we were in the EU, and France banned pulse fishing in 2019. There’s a big deal about ending the ‘Tampon tax’, yet just a few years ago his party - and him - voted against such a measure. It’s politics for people who don’t bother to look deeper into what’s being said, just blithely believe it. The EU wasn’t perfect, nobody said it was. The leave process has so far cost £200 billion, which I’m told is more than we’ve paid in over the forty or so years we were members, and for what? Things we could already have, including blue passports.
  12. I had a set of the LaBella black nylons, they were lovely. I can’t remember what gauge they were though. Bass Direct sell them.
  13. No, it’s vinyl, and not pneumatic. Very nice and comfy though.
  14. Unused, just two months old. Since gigging is out of the question for the foreseeable future, I may as well clear some stuff out and make some room. I have the original box/packaging that it came in. Socially distanced collection welcome, or I can ship it. Copied from the Markbass website: Signature Bass Tones This Signature Markbass Amp Head not only delivers Marcus’s specific needs and taste, but covers all the different tones you need for the ultimate performance. Its amazing clear definition, punch, and dynamics suits a wide selection of playing style, while respecting the priority of tone for the perfect playing feel. The addition of an FX loop lets players connect their favourite stompboxes to expand its tonal possibilities, while the footswitch input provides external control over the amp’s functions. The Little Marcus also features a Speakon/1/4’’ Jack combo speaker output, allowing you to connect the amp head to a wide range of speaker cabinets, while its XLR line out offers direct recording into your chosen device. Powerful EQ Sections The Little Marcus Amp Head is equipped with two powerful EQ sections, offering incredible tone shaping capabilities to accommodate any kind of musical genre and playing style. EQ1 features a 5-band EQ section, allowing players to adjust everything from the ultralow frequencies all the way to the high frequencies. The EQ2 section features two controls for the Old School and Millerizer filters, allowing players to tailor their tone with either a vintage or an amazing slap tonality. Experiment with the Old School control to bypass the low-frequencies and create a bright, Motown-like sound, or play with the Millerizer control to add a nice mid-range focus ideal for solos to cut through dense mixes. 15. Maybe three months old, and unused.
  16. This happened while I was away from here. The top is a beautiful piece of camphor burl, the body is walnut. It’s an incredible instrument to play. It features W&T’s moveable pickup system, the wonderfully figured ebony covers for it were crafted by Robin at Manton Customs, who I highly recommended if you want modifications carried out on an instrument.
  17. Messaged. Hoping it’s still for sale.
  18. I usually record on a MacBook through an Apogee Duet interface. We have a new kitten though, she’s devised various strategies to divert my attention from my playing and recording, to her. She’s really happy sitting and sleeping on my lap, which she can’t do if I’ve got my bass on, if I’m doing my other work music work it’s not a problem. Her latest trick is to get behind my MacBook and push the lid shut using her paws, she has also on occasion stood on the keypad. She also gets up behind my bass and howls at me until I put it down. I want to use my iPad Pro to record into, as a sort of sonic sketch pad, I figure that’ll be easier and less likely to get damaged. It’s also easier to just flip it open, rather than booting up my MacBook, I can then just export the recordings into Reaper. I need a decent interface that will work with an iPad. I already have an Apogee Jam, it doesn’t have a headphone out though, and neither does the iPad, it has one of those type C USB combined things.
  19. The German VAT rate is 19%. It used to be that if you bought something you paid the VAT rate in the country of purchase - probably why Thomman’s prices were so keen - now of course VAT is paid to our government at 20% plus the couriers handling fee. The German rate had been temporarily just 16%, it increased from yesterday.
  20. It’s funny, I’ve never liked RHCP, I like him though. I follow him on Instagram, he comes across as a very interesting person. Thanks for sharing the article, I hadn’t seen that.
  21. I believe it’s going to impact sales to and from NI too?
  22. There’s mention of UK shops taking up business from continental shops like Thomman, would they be affected too though? I’ve never imported or exported goods as a business so I don’t know the ins and outs. Surely if it’s more expensive for private UK buyers to import EU goods, it’ll be more expensive for businesses too, if the goods were built in Europe? I know a lot of Bass direct’s sales were into Europe - at least they used to be - I’m guessing they’ll be affected by price increases, they’ll certainly have a lot of paperwork to compete.
  23. There’s a lot of paperwork involved in exporting and importing goods. If it’s not completed properly, then the goods will be held up. There was a farmer interviewed on my local news last night complaining about the mountain of paperwork that he’s going to have to do from now on - he exports dairy produce I believe into the EU. Obviously time is money as they say, so large businesses will probably need to employ someone to do that, which pushes up their overheads. They’re not going to take that hit, so they’ll increase their prices to cover it. They’re then having to compete with EU based businesses who haven’t got the paperwork related costs, possibly making them cheaper. There was a company on the news a few days ago, that exports glass eels to mainland Europe - I didn’t even know they were a thing tbh - anyway, he was complaining about this. He ships them over by road a few times each week, if he puts his price up, then the customers will go simply buy from a European supplier. There isn’t a domestic market for them - maybe it’ll catch on though, anyone fancy glass eels and chips?
  24. It applies to everything being sold across the border, so it’s not just affecting musicians. I doubt it’s going to change, it hasn’t where it’s applied for sales with any other country. I think it’s only a matter of time before we rejoin anyway tbh I do know someone who tried that coming back from playing in the USA. He was asked to prove that it had been with him when he flew out, which was a little difficult because it wasn’t mentioned on the carnet, he couldn’t produce any receipts or other documents relating to it - other than the receipt from whichever shop he’d bought it from in the USA. It ended up being confiscated, I believe he had to pay quite a large fine on top of the duty and import charges, though he did eventually get it back.
