  1. I’ve taught quite a lot using Skype, it works OK. With my university now closed, my PhD tutorials are going to be via Skype.
  2. Reaper isn’t free, you have a free trial, they expect you to pay for it if you like it. It’s very cheap too. 😁
  3. You had me worried there, I thought it was Bono doing a coronavirus charity record or something.
  4. I think you’re right, it’s going to be a very long time. I can’t see travel restrictions being relaxed until well into the autumn. Social distancing they reckon could be for a year. If that’s how long it takes, then so be it.
  5. End of the day, music for most on here is a hobby. Is it worth you or an at-risk relative dying because you wanted to do your hobby? Change direction, send each other tracks, work on them, jam by recording.
  6. What would happen if next week you come down with it, followed a week later by one of your band mates, who then gives it to an elderly relative?
  7. You could try a one-to-one lesson via Skype, tailored to your specific requirements.
  8. I’d much rather someone collects an instrument, it gives me peace of mind. If the buyer arranges the courier, it’s their choice of courier, their choice of service, and they choose whether to pay the; sometimes expensive, insurance or not.
  9. They’re saying that social distancing could apply for up to a year. I think we better get used to the idea we’re not going to be gigging in public for a while; at least not physically.
  10. Eh? Are you serious?
  11. No. There’s always going to be a latency problem. Analogue to digital conversion takes time, even if it’s only milliseconds. I’m doing something with some guys at uni using supercollider, that’ll work because it’s all digital.
  12. I don’t think it’s possible tbh. There’s always going to be some delay converting the analogue signal to digital, it then sipping along and through the internet, then being converted back to analogue.
  13. I started blog a while ago. Covering everything from music to photography and art, basically everything I love. My latest one includes links to free music making apps and software. Some of it is for students or educational staff, but there's other stuff for anyone to use too. https://mostlyaboutsound.wordpress.com/2020/03/20/strange-times/?fbclid=IwAR3VaUU-iwFGtWMKNBMbklpujAAVRec_nzIxDyPkXAUS8wVnsXzBrIIbMwQ

  14. I'm sharing some new music. This is a rather special album, featuring a friend of mine Richard Sewell on flute and low whistle, and me on piano. The flute and whistle were recorded in September 2018, in what was intended to be have been the initial session of a regular project. Unfortunately time conspired against us. They're now presented for sale by download from my Bandcamp page. All proceeds from the sale will be passed directly to McMillan Cancer Support. A fantastic charity that helps so many people around the UK, both those going through treatment, and their relatives. Sadly Richard has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer. He's a really lovely guy, I've performed with him many times in various jazz ensembles. I decided to dust off the recordings, tidy them up a little, and compose some additional piano. I think this has actually cheered him up a little, listening to the pieces, and making suggestions as to the mix, and my rather poor piano playing. https://quietestrecords.bandcamp.com/album/heard-fram-fugal?fbclid=IwAR2iQoXkHXA6RJJurOc3cnZIaJq6LM926MiN4_DyFSl9nUzVIdei7Br2wl4
  15. It’s my experience of anything like this. There’s always going to be a certain amount of time between you playing a note, and the technology turning the analogue signal to digital, then sending it onto wherever, then it being converted back to an analogue signal. I guess the speeds of other people’s internet connection would make a difference too?
  16. Steve Lawson wrote a brilliant blog about live streaming the other day. That might be useful for you. Skype can be ok, but it’s often very glitchy, though we’re starting to use Skype for business for tutorials at my university from next week, hopefully that’s better. Here’s a link to Steve’s blog. https://www.stevelawson.net/blog/

  18. Still available. Open to sensible offers.
  19. I hope he’s not a member on here.
  20. It could be that the compressor is amplifying noise that’s already there in your signal chain.
  21. I use one that carries all my gear; my combo, pedal board, cables etc. I travel by train everywhere, and wanted something substantial, so I got one of these. https://m.thomann.de/gb/millenium_go_kart_solo.htm?o=2&search=1584193276
  22. Someone needs to show the guy where his full stop key is. Have to say, the fact that Eric Clapton once owned a Stingray doesn’t really make me want to own one.
  23. I’ve used the cover before now, just fold or roll it up and prop it under the front.
