  1. Always make sure you buy direct from the venue. There are lots of reseller sites making out they’re either the venue, or official ticket seller. It’s usually best to go via the artist's website. It’s not just concert tickets either. My mom paid about £50 extra for a passport renewal. The site looked like the genuine Gov.UK site. Luckily we managed to get the money back. My uncle had a similar thing with a US visa.
  2. He has indeed. A really beautiful instrument.
  3. Elrick make some beautiful instruments. I was at a Steve Lawson gig the other week, he’s started using them.
  4. It was sad that Mark Hollis died last year. The colour of spring is an amazing album.
  5. These are amazing. What a great price too.
  6. I’ve often wondered, do they really like those, or do they just pretend to, to please the band? “Ah god no! Oh well, better get up and make out we’re enjoying it, otherwise they’ll start playing an extended version of smoke on the water or something”.
  7. Look into my beautiful blue eyes, wants this bass, you knows you do.

  9. I’ve taught via Skype. It can be frustrating for me as a teacher, I guess it’s the same for the students. You sometimes get a rather glitchy signal. I’ve recently used FaceTime which works a lot better.
  10. What a fascinating thing to do. I toyed with the idea of a half-size double bass briefly last year; there’s a thread on here somewhere that I started. Lack of time prevented me from following through with it.
  11. This is beautiful to play. I was at uni with a guy who had a couple of them, it was playing those made me decide to buy one.
  12. I’m open to reasonable offers for this. I’ll be taking it to Bass Direct for a commission sale if it’s not sold by the end of the week. So if anyone’s interested at my price, please get in touch. 😊
  13. I think you did the best thing. Something as heavy as that is a two man lift, would guys working in the courier depot wait for someone to give them a hand, or simply roll it over, and over?
  14. What would worry me, is who’d be responsible if it got damaged? How much is it to ship, fully insured?
  15. I wouldn’t risk it tbh.
  16. As others have said, it sounds like you’re hitting the pickups.
  17. My nephew asks why is this still here?
  18. They’ve probably been unpacked and put straight out on display. This is why I like Bass Direct. Everything I’ve ever played there has been looked at and setup prior to going on display. It might not be set up how I want it, but we’re all different. The Bass Gallery is the same.
  19. I’ve used a few of the McMillen midi controllers. They tend to be extremely well made, ignoring the QuNexus that became really sticky after just a few months. They seem to work best when used with a laptop or MacBook though. I had to buy a little interface thing when I was trying to operate an 0-Coast synth via midi using the QuNexus keyboard.
  20. Measure it so there’s about 7 or 8 centimetres past the tuner, make a bend in the string, then cut about a centimetre past that. The bent bit goes into the tuner. You only really need a couple or three wraps around the tuner.
  21. Has it got silk winding? I believe it’s ok as long as there is winding.
  22. Does he still have the Wal? My uncle gave me a whole load of guitar magazines, some going back to the very early 1980s. There’s one with Mick Karn and Midge Ure, Mick talks at length in it about his Wal.
  23. There’s a Jaydee owners club on Facebook. Might be worth posting on there?
  24. I had the same set all through uni, they’re incredible strings. They must have had thousands of hours use in that time, bearing in mind I was doing at least ten hours a day practice. The gauges do on paper seem odd, they’re incredibly well balanced though. The low B is something like .136, which seems really heavy compared to the low E, it feels right though.
