  1. If they haven’t about read it in whatever ghastly tabloid they read, then they probably don’t realise that ending FoM applies to them too. They just assume it applies to Johnny Foreigner.
  2. I’m playing in Paris on November 6th. The Eurostar was very cheap.
  3. Does John Currie still teach there? He was a brilliant tutor, and very supportive.
  4. There’s Moondance, and then there’s Moondance played very loudly by guys with trumpets who shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near a trumpet. It’s kind of tainted the song for me.
  5. I’ve never listened to Heart FM, I can’t believe it’s worse than Smooth FM. My dad likes Smooth FM, I’m of the opinion it’s radio for people who don’t like music.
  6. I’m with you all the way with Bohemian Rhapsody, though being totally honest I can’t abide anything Queen did. Bat out of hell by Meatloaf. Moondance, it always reminds me of those very mercenary gigs with very bad jazz bands.
  7. It’s a learning curve. You learn from what you’ve done in the past, some things work, so you carry those forward, tweaking them. Other things don’t work, but you should look at them, to try and find why they don’t. It’s actually good to let others listen to what you’re doing, ask them to critique your work. Learn to critically listen to your work. My PhD is in composition. I have monthly tutorials with my supervisor, we sit and listen to what I’m doing, I get feedback. I listen to some of the stuff I did a year ago and think, cripes, that’s awful. That’s a sign that I’ve improved though.
  8. I think the live on Gdańsk album features him with Wright and Mason. Wright died shortly after.
  9. It’s a fabulous place. I graduated from their BMus course in 2015. It’s hard work. I auditioned at several places, I’ve also spoken to people who studied elsewhere, I’d say that of the various places that do similar courses, ICMP’s is the most demanding. I’m honoured to feature on their website. https://www.icmp.ac.uk/about-icmp/student-successes/kevin-buckland Feel free to message me if you have any specific questions.
  10. The first solo bassist I heard was Michael Manring, that was when I heard bass being played as an instrument, rather than fulfilling a function. The bass album that really affected me was Steve Lawson’s Grace and Gratitude, which is still my favourite by him. It’s like listening to a Mark Rothko painting. Beautiful solo bass playing, woven into a sublime ambient soundscape.
  11. It’s always the same, very noisy, and lots of people, which is why I don’t go. I was even offered a free ticket this year.
  12. See my post above, the link explains it.
  13. Many bands also play too loud, which doesn’t help.
  14. He did tour as Pink Floyd with that same lineup though in the early 90s. Maybe Waters took legal action or something?

  16. I guess it’s how important that one member is. I think Level 42 were down to one original member at one point. That was Mark King, who was probably the most vital member. I’m always surprised about David Gilmour. At one point he was touring with Nick Mason and Richard Wright, yet under his own name.
  17. Very honoured to be featured on my old university’s website. If you’re considering studying music, then I seriously recommend checking ICMP out. They have regular open days, and do a variety of courses.

Well done!  That's an impressive endorsement of your efforts.

      Very impressive! smiley

Nice photo too...although that bass has A LOT of strings! :)

  18. Steve Lawson's music is extremely beautiful, and the perfect soundscape for a lot of things.
  19. Have you checked the little switches on the rear?
  20. You were always on my mind was one of the two I could remember, along with West end girls. One or the other is always playing whenever I have the misfortune to hear Smooth FM, a radio station for people who don’t particularly like music.
  21. I only thought they had a couple of hits. They were a little before my time though, and a little too Smooth FM for my tastes. I’ve seen quite a few people on Facebook saying how good it was. Is the reason for people on here not liking it due to there being no live drums or something?
  22. I’m imagining several dozen members of the forum, using this thread as an excuse for returning from the weekend’s bass show with lots of new gear.
  23. I keep a bike in the boot, just in case the car breaks down.
