This is sun poisoning, or Photodermatitis. I’d never ever heard of it. My head was massively swollen for a couple of days, now I look like a hamster who’s happened upon a rather tasty stash of something edible that he’s keeping for later. It’s not pleasant at all.

This is the kind of thing I’m doing. Excuse the playing, I’d only been using the new tuning for twenty minutes of so here, I’m also suffering from something called Sun poisoning; feeling incredibly ill. I’d never heard of it before. I spent 3 hours last night in A&E.

I’m looking for a couple of Hipshot's D-tuner extenders too.

Three semitones up, that's really useful to know, thanks. I think the strings are .105, .085, .065, .045 and a .028 high C.

The bass was designed by the builder I think for E to C tuning. He’s very much into the Garrison/Fodera thing.

My standard tuning is E to C. I’ve tuned down.

I’ve tuned lower. I was concerned about breaking the strings by tuning higher, plus I wanted to get some floppiness.

It won’t be a regular tuning, just one of a few that I’m using, I was concerned because I’ve had to slacken off the truss rod quite a lot to be able to use it. I play very lightly, so don’t really have any flapping or buzz unless I want it. Another tuning I’m experimenting with is D, G, B, D, A. I usually use E to C tuning.

If the same gear has sounded good previously, then it can’t have been the gear. Sometimes it’s psychological, you might have been tired, stressed or worried about something.

I’m exploring the use of altered tunings. My current favourite is Bb, F, Bb, F, Bb. I’ve had to slacken off the truss-rod quite a bit to accommodate this. It shouldn’t cause any problems should it? Maybe it’d be better to switch to piccolo strings?

I fancy changing the rather bland black-metal set on my W&T, to something a little more in keeping with the instrument. Anyone suggest somewhere to buy a set please?

Maybe if your PA speaker/stand fell over, or gets knocked over onto someone? Or someone trips over a cable?

I’m not sure it is a young persons thing now, haven’t they become the thing for the middle aged? I went to a V festival a few years ago, and pretty much hated everything. Far too many people, most of whom seemed to have regressed back to their childhood for the weekend.

It’s got a chambered body which gives it a nice mellow tone. I’ve played a few of their basses in the past, I’ve always been impressed with them. Here’s a short video. I’ve got a broken little finger on my left hand here, so excuse the playing.

I’ve had this for about a month now, it’s a seriously amazing bass. With the exception of a very brief period in my first year at university, I’ve been playing six string basses for at least ten years. A lot of the players who influence what I do are playing fives tuned E to C, so I thought I’d try it. Apart from a bit of jazz, I mostly play solo stuff, which this is perfect for.

The D’Addario XL nickels compare well with DR strings, for far less money.

Like I said in a later posting, five of the number being advertised are by two sellers. Not all music, or all players require the use of a six string instrument; I think most players would actually get away with a three string bass and just four frets. I think Tony Levin had a three string Stingray built for him? I mostly play solo, and I tend to use a lot of chords, so for me the high C string is really a necessity, as is having 24 frets. It all depends on what you do. I remember one of tutors at uni kept asking if I wanted him to remove one of my strings. He was d**k though, his thing was playing like Victor Wooten, totally different to my thing.
