  1. Status Graphite do strings.
  2. I think he did.
  3. I’ve seen photos of him with a Jaydee before, not a video though.
  4. Yes a few times. My uni had a thing with them, we could use them at a discount if the practice rooms at uni were all booked. They were still very expensive, they charged extra for things like keyboard stands and extra amps.
  5. If you’re in the MU you get free insurance, it’s provided through a company called Hencilla Canworth. Maybe get a quote from them direct? They were really helpful a couple of years ago when my MacBook was damaged at a gig. Unfortunately you only ever find out how good a company is when you make a claim. I think I’d therefore choose a specialist company that realises the needs of a musician, than simply rely on my household insurance, even if it costs a little more.
  6. I've got it recorded from last week. I haven't had chance to watch it yet. It looked good in the trailers I saw. I have a friend who's really into that kind of thing, he thoroughly enjoyed it.
  7. I don’t understand people’s reticence at friending someone on social media. I have over 3,000 ‘friends’ on Facebook, and about 80 requests that I haven’t looked at. I actually know maybe 100 of them, but many of the others are quite interesting people. You can always de-friend someone afterwards if they turn out to be a nazi or a tory or something.
  8. This is an excellent little recorder, with very little in the way of self noise, that’s capable of some really nice recordings. You can adjust the microphone setting by the little control on the top of the unit. It’s generally in really excellent condition, apart from a small mark that can be seen in the photo. I’ve used this for a lot of the work in my PhD portfolio, it’s perfect for incongruous field recording in and around towns and cities, it’s also perfect for recording gigs and rehearsals. Comes complete with the original box and packaging. Price includes postage.
  9. My dad listens to Smooth FM, which in my opinion is a station that caters for people who have no interest in what they’re listening to. They seem to play the same three or four artists in rotation. There’ll be one by Take that, followed by one by the bee-gees, then ABBA. Most stations are similar, I suspect if you ask someone what they just heard being played, they wouldn’t be able to tell you.
  10. I’m guessing you don’t post the cars though, the buyer collects them?
  11. I don’t think you’re being too fussy. You’re parting with money for something you’re not going to see beforehand. I’ve sold instruments to people and have always been happy to provide whatever photos they’ve wanted, and I’ve sent videos of me playing to a couple of them. As for social media, why not. It’s building up a picture of the person that you’re buying from, that’s how I see it.
  12. I suggested the name The Angry Gammons to a friend for his new jazz trio. He pointed out they’d probably lose their residency at the local Conservative club.
  13. I remember having to learn a Rolling Stones song once that hadn’t been recorded in standard A=440, there was a song at university too thinking about it. It’s maybe the same with this? They could have tuned to another instrument in the studio that was slightly out of tune? Just pick a key that you’re both comfortable with, and learn it in that. If you have to change if when you get a singer, it’ll probably just be a case of moving up or down a fret or two.
  14. I don’t know the song, I don’t think I’ve even heard it. This that I found here after a quick look is in Eb. Maybe ignore YouTube and play to the original record?
  15. It's probably just me and my short attention span, and the fact I'm quite busy. I started watching, then fast-forwarded a little, just in time to see you take a swig of coffee. I'd just make it shorter, and to the point. I watch quite a few of Janek's vlogs, his seem more structured, yet at the same time informal.
  16. This is the problem with flying with an instrument. You can ask five different employees from the airline, and you'll get five different answers, and probably be charged five different additional fees too.
  17. If I wanted an instrument valued I'd take it to a specialist shop. I'd check eBay, I'd search the internet. I wouldn't take it to an antique expert, he may well be an expert in valuing a pot by Clarice Cliff, but a vintage Fender is something totally different. You only have to watch the programme to see how out they can be with their valuations. People are saying the responsibility lies at the feet of the owners because they own it.
  18. Surely the couple selling should have done some research? If they couldn’t then someone they know could have done. I thought it was pretty common knowledge that some old instruments can be quite valuable?
  19. There’s a similar programme called antiques road trip that my mom watches. A few times now people have bought items from antique shops and sold them for hundreds of times more.
  20. I’ve done whole albums on bass; chords, melody, everything. It’s down to your imagination I guess. Just enjoy it.
  21. Surgical spirit or meths works too. Maybe try whatever you use in an inconspicuous place first though.
  22. Are there any community bands that might want them?
  23. I played very briefly with a Free tribute band, they had an awful drummer who’s count-ins were never in the tempo of the song. He also had no grasp of even rudimentary rhythm, his idea of a fill wasn’t 8th notes across the kit, just 8 notes.
