  1. On something like that; especially on the front I'd do it so it could be removed at a later date, maybe glue or something?
  2. This was the thread I started a couple of months ago about the almost certain scam that I encountered.
  3. They might say that they can't collect it, maybe they live too far away, but they'll pay and arrange the courier, or a friend will collect it. Those are the usual ones that I've encountered.
  4. Have you got Sibelius? If you have then I'd feel inclined to type the parts into Sibelius and transpose up.
  5. Can you reverse a bank transfer?
  6. It's nice in it's simplicity, though why attach a thumb rest using screws?
  7. It's not just Gumtree. if someone pays you using PayPal then you need to prove that you've sent the item, and that they've received it. Most Gumtree sales are local or local collection. If they pay using PayPal and then either collect it or have the item collected then there's no proof. They then claim you haven't sent it; which you obviously haven't because they collected it, so they get their money back.
  8. Something else to remember before anyone even walks through the door; when you’re taking photos of whatever is for sale, make sure nothing expensive is visible. I know we’re all proud of our nice instruments, but let’s not show them off to every crook and scammer.
  9. I totally agree about PayPal, though if you paid someone by cheque then they'd see your bank details; sort code, account number and account name. I don't believe anyone can do anything with just those. I've sold a lot of things on Bumtree, including some quite expensive items, and always advertise cash on collection only. I always make sure I'm not at home on my own when they call, I never let them see anything else that I may have; MacBook etc, whatever I'm selling is set up downstairs. You just have to be careful. On the whole everyone I've encountered through there has been fine, though I did almost fall for a scam a few months ago when I was selling a pair of Genelec monitors, I posted on here about it at the time. At the end of the day, if you're unsure then just walk away, someone else will no doubt be interested.
  10. If you play music then you're a musician. With regard to people doing other things too that aren't playing, but are still within music, we were encouraged at uni to adopt a portfolio approach to a career; so playing, teaching, composing etc.
  11. I've not heard of this as being a scam. He can't, as far as I know do anything with just bank details. Just be wary of PayPal, that's often involved with scams.
  12. Just a few weeks old, in mint condition. Selling because my SoundDevices MixPre acts as an interface. Includes original packaging and cables. £175, price includes special next day delivery postage.
  13. It's what keeps him going; he loves it. Same reason most on here will travel 60 miles to a gig on a Saturday, spend 2 hours setting up, play for 3 hours, spend another hour breaking down, then drive home, and maybe get £30.
  14. This is my great, great uncle; Webster Booth.
  15. Play the chords on your bass.
  16. I honestly listen to a hugely varied selection of music. I was at uni yesterday, travelling there I was listening to Messiaen and Mogwai, coming back a bit of Dream Theatre and then Peter Gabriel's 'Live blood' album. Just now I was listening to Thom Yorke's latest album 'Suspiria'.
  17. Me and a drummer friend did a NYE gig 7 or 8 years ago like that. The venue wanted a band and booked a duo, so the duo hired us. It really was most odd, well paid though. We only found out on the night when we arrived; the guy took us to one side and told us.
  18. There is a volume limit you can override it though. I thought it was only for music, maybe try it. Settings, music.
  19. Maybe pour some rice crispies into a bowl and add milk just before you start playing?
  20. I had to do that a couple of years ago. My bank were brilliant, I'd spent weeks messing about with PayPal and eBay, NatWest refunded me in a couple of days. I just had to send them screenshots of the transaction and email correspondence.
  21. It was cheaper for me to commute each day for the three years of my degree.
  22. It's been like it for quite a while.
  23. My feedback is only 14, I’ve been a member for about 4 years, just never sold or bought much from there. The most recent thing I did buy was from a guy with 1,000+ positive feedback. I bought an Apogee audio interface, when it arrived it had a lot of scratches and marks on it, even though I’d emailed him asking him about the condition prior to buying; he’d told me it was perfect and as new. The feedback thing is just an indicator.
