  1. Yep. When I was at uni I was practicing for 14 hours a day most days. There was a guy there in my particular bass class who simply didn’t need to, he was the most gifted musician I’ve ever encountered. There’s a student at the music college I’m teaching at that is a phenomenally talented keyboard player. He’s only young, just late teens.
  2. You have to remember there’s a difference between the average person's practice levels and someone like Bernard Edwards - I could have inserted a myriad of names here - they’re not constrained by having to go to work or other domestic issues. They’re either gigging, rehearsing or recording; either way, they’ll have a bass in their hands. There's also this mysterious innate talent that some people have.
  3. I don’t know why you’ve copied me in this tbh, I totally agree with you.
  4. My local PO was closed, it’s now a counter in a branch of W H Smith.
  5. I’ve played a lot of Chic’s stuff at one time or another. It’s just practice. Listen to some of Jaco’s or Stanley Clarke’s stuff; it’s a lot faster.
  6. It is a genuine Fodera. The seller has supplied a link to the Fodera new build page for the instrument.
  7. Grounds for divorce surely?
  8. Under the bridge.
  9. I set "Shape of You" by Ed Sheeran as my 7:00 alarm. Now I wake up at 6:00 so that I don't have to hear it.
  10. Warning: If you get sent a link to listen to the new Ed Sheeran and Elton John Christmas song, don't open it. It's a link to listen to the new Ed Sheeran and Elton John Christmas song.
  11. Easiest way to clear a pub: play the opening chords to whamageddon.
  12. Do audiences want Christmas songs at Christmas? If the place is full of people on a work’s night out or something then I’d say yes.
  13. Model 7051. Fabulous quality, offers really good protection for your instrument. Unused. Price includes shipping.
  14. Practice.
  15. I don't play an extended range bass for the lower notes, it’s so I don’t have to move about the neck as much as I would on a 4.
  16. Yes.
  17. I've owned a few. I’ve always been very underwhelmed by them. The 5 string USA built Marcus Miller bass was the worst of them.
  18. An original silver bodied model, in good cosmetic condition, and full working order. It comes complete with all cables and a soft carry case.
  19. I just went from a 2012 MacBook Pro to a new MacBook Air - I did a post last week about it. I’m using it for music production. As you say, the difference is night and day. Woosh and it’s done.
  20. I often wonder how many budding guitarists and bassists were put off playing after being given one of these by well-meaning parents at Christmas.
  21. Brilliant, thank you. My old MacBook was a mid 2012 model too, with just basic RAM, I never had a problem with it. I just went into the Apple Store in Birmingham, the guy there said similar to you. I’m guessing they’re on commission at the reseller, hence trying to get me to buy something twice as expensive.
  22. My ten year old MacBook Pro sadly died yesterday, so I need to replace it. I was looking at a MacBook Air with the M1 chip. It gets some very good reviews online with regard to using it for music production. I just went into my local Apple reseller and the guy there advised me not to bother with it, but to go for a new MacBook Pro; costing twice as much. So, can anyone using a MacBook Air M1 advise me please? it has to be a MacBook of some description, the music college I lecture at uses Logic Pro, it’s also my DAW of choice. I’ll get an educational discount, but would rather not have to fork out for a MacBook Pro if I don’t need to.
