  1. Boiling might remove any residue build up, it won’t do anything to solve physical damage to the string from contact with the frets or through being stretched. Isn’t the core wire steel which rusts when exposed to moisture? I’ve never really had a problem with sweaty finger tips to be honest, hands sometimes in really hot venues, maybe have a towel on stage and wipe your hands in between songs.
  2. You shouldn’t have to resort to contacting CEOs though. Say what you like about Amazon, their customer service for me at least has always been first class, they put many companies to shame.
  3. I wouldn’t be in too much of a rush to start that business, you’d go bust pretty quickly if you relied on just items sold via Basschat. With the exception of a strap everything I’ve sold over the last 12 months has been through Facebook or Bumtree. Anyway back on topic. Like has been said earlier, you’ll hear horror stories for most couriers. Parcelforce are invariably called Parcelfarce, yet I’ve never had a problem with them. I mentioned in another thread recently how they went out of their way to locate a missing parcel and return it to me, they did the same for my brother recently too. They just delivered my new monitors; I had a text about 7.30am to inform me that they’d be delivered between 8.20 and 9.20, they arrived at 9.30. I’ve always had good service from DPD too, and was surprised when I read bad things about them. I would always, always, always avoid the likes of Yodel and My Hermes, it’s just not worth the risk of using them to save a few pounds. My Hermes use drivers delivering from their own cars. With Royal Mail I tend to use special delivery, they’ll accept items weighing up to 20kg and 61x46x46cm. Which would certainly include small and medium size amps etc. Tracked all the way, signed for and insured I think up to £500.
  4. Sold to Paul McCartney via Facebook.
  5. Aren’t they supposed to as part of their insurance have regular inspection and testing carried out?
  6. He’s probably the same guy who contacted me a while ago. I’m always wary of people responding to my wanted adverts. I usually check to see how long they’ve been members for and their interaction with the site. Scammers seem to tend to be new members.
  7. I was merely repeating what the lady in the post office said.
  8. Parcelforce insurance doesn’t cover instruments. I had to send a gig bag back to the distributor a few months ago. I booked the postage online and took it wrapped up into the post office, the lady at first was reluctant to accept it.
  9. I left a bad review of a company that scammed my mom. They complained and Trustpilot removed my review.
  10. This courier thing has gotten stupid. I know accidents can and do happen, so understand the requirement for packing items properly, however it really shouldn’t be such a lottery as to whether or not your parcel disappears into a black hole or not. It seems that there’s actually no reliable courier, one person will recommend one, then the next moment you’ll hear a load of horror stories about them. Regarding disappearing parcels, a parcel can’t just disappear. They surely have cctv throughout the depots, don’t they have it in the vans too?
  11. Depends how wide the neck is really. I did experiment with one on my 6 string Modulus a couple of years ago, that had quite narrow 17mm string spacing, I used a classical guitar capo. It was by planet waves: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Planet-Waves-Classical-Guitar-Capo/dp/B000OZ981I/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1536177247&sr=8-2-spons&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=classical+guitar+capo&psc=1 A friend of mine uses one quite frequently, I’ll ask him what he uses.
  12. I did this once and hated it. I know people who do it and love it. It's definitely worth trying. I was well paid, and the only time I had to spend money was when I went sightseeing on shore.
  13. I love the theatre pit work that I’ve done. I hated the cruise ship jobs though, it wasn’t long hours, just three 40 minute sets 5 times a week, I just like to be a little more free than the job allowed, I also like being home.
  14. I don’t think beat it would have been anywhere near as good or as successful without Van Halen’s solo. Often it’s down not so much to the producer but to him pandering to the A&R people who want it to sound like something it’s probably not written to sound like, just so that it sells more, which I guess is the point.
  15. I’ve just bought the three concert thing ‘different stages’ they’ve got out, not listened to it yet though. That’s going to be Rick, Wal and Jazz. The tours are 94s counterpoints, 97s test for echo and 78s farewell to kings. I’m not really much of a fan of their early material, it’ll be interesting to hear him playing the Rick though.
  16. Ever so slightly off topic. I used to play in a band with a guitarist who played a Rickenbacker guitar, that really was the most beautiful looking guitar. A very distinctive sound too.
  17. I totally agree, I think heavier gauge strings with more tension bring out the tone of the wood more.
  18. Wasn’t that what he wanted? I seem to remember him using very narrow gauge 030 - 090 Rotosound strings then, the same as Mark King. His worst sound for me was the later jazz bass. I was listening to a live album a few days ago, the bass sound got annoying after a while.
  19. Maybe not so good on a gig though?
