1. I think its hard to have a rule about that really as how do you judge 'coming up with the money'? Do you let two people race down the M6 to buy the bass and first one there get's it and disappoints the other one. What I did here was take each PM as it came in. The first guy said he was really interested but needed 24 hours to work out if he could afford it. As I have dealt with him before I told him he had first option for twenty four hours. I didn't publicise this but told all subsequent enquiries that this was the case and then when the first guy decided he could not afford it till next month I went to the second person who said they wanted it. If the deal should fall through then I will go back to the order of PM's to determine who I approach next which to me seems fairest. It's a shame that you had a bad experience but I don't think there is an easy solution. Steve
2.
Drat. Does that mean I can stop looking for coins down the back of the settee and the change trays of fruit machines?
Hopefully!
3. On hold pending sale until Saturday June 6th. I am fairly sure that this will be sold but as with anything in life you never know so will update accordingly. Thanks to all of you who were interested in this bass. I will let you know if the sale falls through. Steve
4. I am seriously tempted by this so if there is anyone out there who wants this get in quick..........
5.
iM SURE IT IS 34" AND CERTAINLY HAS THE VTC CIRCUITRY
Correct!!! In fact I wired the VTC so its amazing it works :-) Steve
6. Thanks for posting that Barry, that is indeed the same bass as this one!! Its pretty lightweight as well. Steve
7. I owned this very bass myself for a while and its a corker !!!
8.
mmmmmmmmm Have you got a cash price in mind? PM me with it if you'd rather. Ta.
With regards to price I am going to be realistic. Given the way things are at the moment I would take £3500 for the bass and no less. I paid 2K more than that for it so am taking quite a hit selling for that but I would have lost as much if I had left the money in shares. Would consider part ex as a portion of the value as mentioned before. One thing with this bass is I bought it from V&R and it was for sale at the Gallery so we can be pretty sure of its provenance and originality. It was also used in the film Still Crazy and was previously owned by Jimmy Nail who appeared in the film as the bass player. I think thats a fair yet realistic price. Anyone who wants to buy this would obviously want to come and play it - I am in Birmingham. Several forum members have played this bass including Flanker, EBS_Freak and Crazykiwi and I think they all rated it. In fact if it wasn't for CK's job situation he would probably own the bass now. Thanks Steve
9. SOLD!!!!!!!!!!! SALE PENDING - ON HOLD TILL SATURDAY JUNE 6TH. Thanks for all interest - if the sale does not occur I will change the thread and be in touch as applicable. Steve --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am not playing this much and need to spend some cash on other things so lets see if there is any interest. Its all original except: The bridge is off a 62P (thanks OG). The original bridge is included and is functional but is not in great condition making saddle adjustment tricky. The bass still plays well with the original bridge. It has had a refret. As far as I am aware thats it. It sounds awesome :-) Pics here - took on an iphone so not the best. http://s22.photobucket.com/albums/b318/birdsg/65Jazz/ I would consider the following as part exchange. 4 or 5 string Sadowsky's Alleva Coppolos, Celinders, GB's Thanks Steve
10. This is a steal. I wish I could justify it but I have way too many cabs!!
11. As Mark says the Sadowsky used to be mine (And Trevthebass's) and its a lovely bass. Mark is also a pleasure to deal with. Steve
12.
What is it about Rules and Guidelines step 4 for buyers that I don't quite get?
Forgive EBS_Freak father for he hath sinned. He knoweth not what he say.
13. Is this an auction or not?
14.
I know this sounds like a stupid question, but why did you wanna trade your metro for another fender if they are that good? I see you have 2 or 3 fenders at the moment. Why if they are that great do people wanna chop there sadowskys for a fender?? No as far as metros go, not interested. 3 offers for metros has kinda put me off. No just us ones please as far as sadowskys go. Thanks.
Seriously I have probably owned as many Sadowsky's as anyone on this forum and the metro's are very very close to the US models. Completely different to the difference in US and non US Laklands in my opinion which I thought was noticeable. Steve
15.
I've not had the privilege of trying one myself (I did own a '78 P bass, which was nice, but nothing really pricey), but I know that a number of people on the forum own/have owned some of the more desirable 60s Fenders, whether P or J. (I did own a '78 P bass, which was nice, but nothing really pricey.) I had a Highway One P bass that, as far as I can recall, sounded more or less like the '78 but have never had the chance to A/B a new bass against one that might fetch ten times as much. So is there any substance to the belief that vintage is best ? Or are you just as likely to buy something modern that would be indistinguishable when it comes to sound ?
I have a 65 Jazz and there is something wonderful about the tones that it produces in my opinion. Not sure they are worth the additional dosh that you have to pay to get one really but most of the vintage basses I have played have sounded different to newer ones in a subtle way. A lot of people prefer the more modern sound so I dont think that you could say that vintage is 'best' - just different and some people like that. Steve

Ashdown

Interesting that a lot of you are using these to good effect. My recollections are that they can be deemed to be unreliable, it appears from this thread that perhaps that is not so true and they are in fact good solid workhorses? Steve

Ashdown

Just seen a pub band and the bass player had some sort of Ashdown combo. Sounded awful. Anyone gigging with Ashdown and getting good results? Maybe I am just not listening hard enough but it just sounded 'dull'? Steve
18. So is the latest copy of the mag out yet and has anyone had it delivered? I am sure its been at least two months since the last one? Steve
19. Have a bump for this beauty. I am sorely tempted myself but must resist........ Steve
20. I can't see what's to be gained by baiting the guy. Why make things worse for him when he is obviously p1ssed off with what has happened?
21. Has anyone received the latest issue? I had to write to them to get Januarys issue so I hope they havent forgotten me again. I also ordered a back issue that I had to write numerous eMails to receive. Very shoddy service and I won't be renewing. Steve
22. GB now withdrawn. Its too good to sell off cheaply. I should have started this at £1500, its a match for any other bass I have played. Steve
23. Amazed that this hasn't sold yet!! Have a BUMP
24. BUMP for this bargain. Its a steal at this price. Anyone who wants to pay by paypal I will charge you an extra 10%
25. BUMP
