1. I don't particularly want to get involved in this thread but have to say the point about whether it is an auction or not is a very important one.

If anyone makes an offer on the bass I think they deserve a YES or NO response as opposed to being put on hold until a better offer comes along personally.

I am probably one of the people that CK refers to as having offered £1500 as I did offer this amount a while ago but have since bought a Sadowsky.

As people have said this IS an auction and I dont think there is anything wrong with that as long as its stated up front.

On a more positive note the bass is a really great jazz and whoever buys it wont be disappointed. Anyone interested should have a word with Flanker also as he sold it to CK in the first place and knows all about it.

Please reinstate BBC also he is the funniest thing on this forum.

however, with the Sadowsky Metro and the NYC much less so......

Having just purchased a Metro I believe they are the very best VFM Super J you can buy

    Bang on!

You wont be disappointed with a Skyline but I found the US models to be absolutely spot on in every aspect.

Sorry Al, it was my Markbass F1. I wasnt loving the tone on its own but Mark pointed out that It can be used as a poweramp as its so transparent and it seems to work wonders now that I have seen the light. Its bl00dy loud!!

  4. NOPE KEEPING THIS. Thanks to Mark at bassdirect for the brainwave of sticking the EBS pre into this. Who needs a HD350 or a TD650 :-)

    Steve

Only had this a few months but not really digging the tones to be honest and I prefer the EBS classic preamp that I have.

After a HD350 or a TD650 and some cash from me or £500 cash plus shipping. I have got the 19" rackmount kit for this that I will throw in as well.

Does anyone want to see pics? Its the black one and as I say is only 2-3 months old. Perfect working order.

EDIT: If you have a HD350 I would be looking for £50 cash plus the head approx and if you have a TD650 I would be looking to add £150 to the deal approx but its all negotiable.

Only other thing I may consider is a Genz Benz head of some description plus cash either way WHYG?

  5. Once you get to a certain level its very subjective as what is good or better. The Alleva Coppolo that I tried was as good as any other bass I have played in terms of build quality and tone. I think that if you don't 'get' Celinders, Sadowsky's, Alembics etc then you may be mystified as to why anyone would pay ten times as much for one of these than a standard Fender but its a lot like cars. Some of the Allevas also have a pretty rare form of Brazilian Rosewood and that can add $1500 to the total cost due to its rarity. Whether that $1500 translates as value for money in terms of tone thats another question. Some people think it does.

  6.
I'm still holding one of the 4s captive... unless you swiped it when you popped into Bernie's yesterday of course... and you can leave my Spitfire too!!

Anyway, back to the thread... when you going to drop it round Steve? We still need to get together so I can bring the Rumour 4 and 5 across for you to check out.
Actually I may take you up on that soon as I could do with getting it out of the house as my wife has a sharp eye when it comes to counting basses. I thought I had sneaked the Sadowsky in until this afternoon. I could see by the way she was looking at it that she was onto me :-) Its a long story but I have told her it will be sold soon and could I borrow the trousers off her when I next go out!

  7. Hard to describe using words but 'creamy' would probably be closest. I am actually at the point where I am pretty much there but its cost me a fortune to get there ;)

Jazz bass with played in rounds.
Berg Rig with EBS or Summit Audio Pre

BUT the biggest things I have done recently too improve my tone are a) raise the action and :P concentrate on better technique.

Raising the action to about 3-4mm at the 12th fret seems to really let the full tone come through. I previously had the action at about 2mm and thought that I liked all that 'sizzle'. Thinking about how each note is fretted and using tips of fingers etc also seems to help me sound better.

  8.
you will just have to keep it ;)
That wouldn't be the end of the world. Giving up my quest to rule the world with five strings at the moment and going back to four so it would be a shame for it not to get played as often as it should. If it sells I think there could be another GB in my future plans possibly.

I thought you were on a mission to buy all of the GB's anyway :-)
