I love dealing with Mark at bass direct but equally find Alex, and the Gallery in general, to be a great place to shop.
Well - I have an AC in customs right now with a P body & scratchplate but a pair of J pickups so he can certainly handle the routing oK
More positives from me. Just concluded an easy deal involving two combos and a pedal and cash. Very happy with the deal. Steve

Peavey DPC 1400X and Peavey Max Bass Preamp Rack
birdy replied to funkle's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
I apologise, but I did not re-list for a debate. I withdrew from the sale for the purpose of using it for gigs, subsequently rechecked what I had paid for it, and re-listed accordingly. I informed Gary of my intentions in advance, and offered him first refusal, which he has taken. As far as I am concerned, when I withdrew it from the sale, that ended the original agreement, although I did offer to Gary that he have first refusal in the event of re-listing, the promise of which I followed through on.
Well you have to do what you have to do so no worries.
Ive never played one, but would love to. My main concern would be that his 5 string jazz basses look massive. Do they balance and how heavy are they? If they are as heavy as they look could you make a more moderate bass, not all bassists are the same build as Nate Watts :-)
The 5 string bodies are, I believe, the same size as Fenders and Jimmy has recently made them slightly larger so that they look more in proportion. Weight also certainly hasn't been an issue with the two I have owned. I guestimate one was 8.5 lbs the other 9. I would ask about the prospect of a PJ. I think Jimmy hasn't dismissed the idea but was struggling to get time to design the pickups correctly but would be interested to know? Steve

I have just played this bass again and its as good as I remembered it. You will not get a better 5 string passive P bass anywhere on the planet. I am no fan of antigua but this bass is stunning in the flesh, its more of a grey burst and the fingerboard wood is delightful. I told Steve that he is mad to be selling this as it would cost well over £3000 to get one of these from the States. Steve

Highly enjoyable couple of hours. Very impressed with the W&T's - much better playability than I remembered and lovely tones too!! Again, nice to meet everyone and thanks to Mark for opening and the nibbles/refreshments. Steve -
Anyone else noticed that the green one looks slightly more angular than the burgundy mist one? At first I thought it was just the body & guard colours but I have a sneaking suspicion that one or other of the images is slightly out of proportion?
The cutaway on the green one looks to start higher up the fretboard presumably to allow better access to the dusty end? I am having trouble keeping up with you Barrie Steve

That black Celinder was one of my all time fave basses!! I think there is a website somewhere with clips of the bass. I will have a look later..... Steve

I recently purchased a 77 Jazz from Ari on this forum and I absolutely love it. It's been modified in that its had a refret in 2003, an AC preamp fitted and its been corrected for neck movement in the pocket which can be a problem on the 3 bolt fenders. It plays and sounds amazing. I would liken it to a Celinder Update in terms of playability and tone. The one you are looking at seems a decent price on the whole depending on how it sounds and plays!! Steve

And all of the ones I have played have been worth every penny in my opinion.

Just played Flankers LM5 and its amazing!! 70's Jazz vibe down to a tee but can get mean and ballsy when needed too. Super playable low action as well. I think I may get rid of an LG5 and get an LM5 so I have one of each !! Steve
