Midlands Bass Bash

Personally I think we should go with the 16th June (sorry Paul). From previous experience ANY date that we pick will have someone who can't make it and at the moment the 16th is good for most. If we enjoy it there's no reason why we couldn't do again in a few months anyway and theres always the 'national' bash to look forward too. On the food and drink side of things I think we should all aim to bring our own within reason. As an example I will come for 2-3 hours and will bring some soft drink and if I get hungry will go and get a sandwich from a shop or sort myself out. Steve
I can see this is going to be a challenge! It would appear that skywalker and Paul Cooke are mutually exclusive on dates. Trying to gather information from earlier on the thread we've got: Gazm - 16 June presoulnation - no preference? Bernmeister - no preference skywalker - 16 June (not 7/14 July) birdy - 16/23/30 June Machines - no preference? Mobius - before 22 June Sugden - 16 June Paul Cooke - only 7/14 July NAS - 9/16/30 June 7/14/28 July 4/25 August. So, the 16th June would be OK with many except PC - sorry about that. Shall we go with the 16th June anyway and do the best we can with that? This url should take you to a map showing the location. Anybody else interested? Nick S
Midlands Bass Bash

Well theres been the national meets in Northampton which Paul C has organised but the main point of this one was just for midlanders to get together while we wait for the national one which will probably be in September. The last midlands one we had was in Birmingham and I think there were about four of us. I think you may be better having a tighter time window so as to not inconvenience you too much although in theory if people want to come from outside the Midlands then the more the merrier! Steve

    Midlands Bass Bash

Hi Nas, thats a really generous offer and I would be willing to drive over to your place and bring some of my gear with me. My only problem is the potential times. Obviously you don't want people arriving all day etc so what were you thinking of in terms of when people should arrive and leave? From my perspective I would need to leave early afternoon as we have a gig later on. Thanks for the offer. PS aren't we missing some people like bassplayer2106 and DemonGene etc? Steve

    Midlands Bass Bash
I think postponing it is a good idea for a few reasons. Firstly not everyone has made it over here yet - it almost needs to be republicised. Secondly I can't make next Saturday .
Agreed. Why dont we provisionally look at 16th, 23rd or 30th June and see when most are available. I can make any of those as long as its not too late in the day. Anyone else got a view on dates? Steve

    Midlands Bass Bash

Hi Guys, I suggested a Midlands meet as a few of us did it about a year ago. We got to the point of agreeing a date (next saturday) but were still haggling over a venue as people had differing views of where they wanted to go. I think with the site changeover it may be wise NOT to meet next saturday as thats pretty close now and not everyone may be here yet. Its a good idea for us to get together if we can for a few hours. If anyone does still want to meet next saturday by all means go for it but I haven't booked a venue etc........ Steve
  8. I quite like it the way it is but would also consider an off white guard that a lot of CAR basses have, I think its technically called mint maybe? Its sorta white with a slight green tint, I am sure you have seen one and know what I mean!

    Bruce Foxton
Recently, on my weekly drive to/from the south west, I have been working my way through a box of old cd's that were lying in our loft. This week, it was the turn of the Jam (greatest hits) and it struck me what a great overdrive/distortion tone Bruce foxton had. I know his weapons of choice was a Rick 4001 through a Marshall amp head, but does anyone know of a reasonably priced pedal that can achieve the same effect? Sorry if this has already been covered on here but I am just too lazy to search! My SWR has an inbuilt distortion circuit but that is far fizzier than the Foxton sound. IN RESPONSE TO THIS THREAD ON BASSTALK, Acidbass suggested the DHA pedal line, but does this give the warm power amp type distortion a la Foxton or more fizz. BTW my SWR (750x) has a valve in the front end which is the source of the overdrive circuit!
As well as the Rick didn't he use a Fender P quite extensively also? I know he recorded some stuff with one.

I may be being dumb but there isnt a theory/technique forum? Not that I used it often but is it going to be created?
