had gig at regular local venue on Saturday - normal good crowd etc but personally i made a couple of (admittedly minor)mistakes which i'm now beating myself up over as normally i am 99.99999% on the ball - grrrrrr! - To be honest though i reckon its because i unexpectedly got made redundant the day before so probably just minor concentration lapse due to having that on my mind!!! bah. peace c

yeah i likes it too and i'm not a Stingray fan either....odd. peace c

Aaaaargh!!! Just been seriously looking at Aguilar and this model head in particular - thats a good price too - would you be happy to post it? I take it its just the standalone rack head not in the sleeve thing they do? (..hmmmm goes off to figure out if i can scrape up the readies for this........) peace c

I was never into mark king or level 42, either back in the day, or now. They seem far too sterile to me and i don't like his singing voice or indeed his bass tone. Undeniably a good player who raised the bar back in the day though. I'm sure he's a nice bloke n' all, but for some reason, to me, he always looked a bit like a school bully!!! Not sure why!! and yes, yes, i know you shouldn't judge a book by its cover etc etc... peace c

yeah i noticed he had the same bass all the way through - was cool to see it getting progressively more beaten up over the years too, and all through genuine graft. peace c

are you, in fact, rubbish? do you have b.o.? ...........just a thought seriously, it can be very frustrating - manys the time i've thought of selling all my gear on ebay too! how old are you again? when you get to a certain age (30ish +) it can be much harder to find an originals band as most people by then are happy just doing covers and younger bands have to consider the image side of things to be taken seriously. i'm also in an area which is pretty dead when it comes to finding decent musicians and it can be very annoying. how about trying something different? - treat yourself to an electronic drumkit or something, may give you a new lease of musical life... or start doing some home recording etc. or how about some kind of online collaboration - in this broadband age surely you can hook up with musicians from miles away and work on some material online? peace c

definitely two fingers - the man himself says so in this clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajD1duxKSuE but yeah, pretty much just a stamina thing, and thats just what he's always done so must be uber natural for him. peace c

seems the push/push volume pot on my trusty old Yamaha Attitude Ltd 1 is on its way out and needs replacing - any recommendations for where to get a replacement at a good price - (fitting it is no prob) ta c

yeah always assumed that was a Claypool tune actually - you learn something new every day! peace c

i always take two basses even if its a just a half hour set. So far have only needed the spare once when my battered old green Attitude died on me mid gig - but if i'd not had a spare bass we would have been screwed as it wasn't something fixable on the spot! Liking the idea someone else mentioned of taking a Hohner/Steinberger type 'cricket bat' bass as a spare though - makes good sense - small, easy to carry, lightweight etc....hmmmm. I always take a spare amp head too as it goes. Never had to use it yet but as my rig is getting a bit long in the tooth now its a good safety net. Bit of a pain carting it about but it generally just lives in the back of the car. Worst case it could also be used by one of the guitards if their amp was to go down too. peace c

yrp - i use it alot when having new songs to learn - much quicker to find the track you want than rooting through piles of old CDs !!! plus you quite often turn up some good cover versions or rare footage too. peace c
-
looks ok yeah - i always thought the ones with a one piece pickguard and the solid black logo were a bit earlier than 96/97 though but i'm no expert - someone else will clarify i'm sure. peace c

pretty much any song with a spoken bit in it. c

yeah a very good price that for what are meant to be very nice basses. peace c

one of the reviews on harmony central is from me i think - I have an Attitude LTD 1 (Blue with pink inlays) and a lower spec Attitude Special. and yes LTD 1 is more LTD than LTD 2 version! (They only made 150 Blue ones and 150 Red ones). A LTD 3 is on its way from Yamaha soon too....but don't hold your breath! The Attitude LTD1 is the older top of the line model with the scalloped fingerboard, DiMarzio pickups, stereo outs etc. and is a very well made instrument. Action is super low, very powerful, high output (pretty much equal to active), nicely finished etc. Never used the stereo outs but soundwise its a beast - a very full sound, and in a rock context at least, can't be beaten and walks all over my Precision. Not the easiest bass to slap on due to the neck humbucker and the position of the forward knob, but it can be done once you're used to where to position your hand. The neck is very wide and flat so not suitable for everyone as it takes some getting used to. Can suffer from neck dive a little but nothing a decent strap won't fix. The Special however has a thinner neck more like a jazz bass, but does lack the scallops, dtuner, stereo out etc. Still a fine bass though and both are built like the proverbial brick outhouse. Heres my two: peace c

aren't some of the people mentioned (steve harris and andy fraser for instance) more songwriters than composers? i'm sure steve harris, (although coming up with the initial song ideas) doesn't write all the guitar lines/drum patterns etc ........ to me, a composer would write everything within the piece?...... though i have got a migraine so my brain may be broken! peace c

doesn't Stanley Clarke compose film scores these days?
I also think creativity is in some respects a skill that can and will get rusty if you don't use it regularly.
i'd agree with this - in similar position with covers band vs originals AND i'm also in the same position with my dayjob, which at the moment is seriously driving me into depression which i'm struggling against. I used to work as an artist/designer for a games company which was very creative at times and quite satisfying. Now, although i still produce what some may call 'artwork', its much more a production line type situation working from architects plans with no room to inject any ideas etc myself. This has pretty much sapped my creativity even when i get home and try to do stuff. Very, VERY annoying and not good at all. A similar thing with music although I'm starting to come out of that as I have a possible new originals project in the pipeline. peace c -
just came across this video - BASSex by Alberto Rigoni hmmm!! not sure what to make of it really! kinda euro cheesy, kinda 'my cherona' but kinda cool too (and not just the cowgirl!) very nice quick run/harmonic thing at 01:51 peace c
