1.
What he said. I always buy from JJ direct. He introduced me to the stuff personally back in 2005 when we were supporting Styx on the uk leg of their tour. They made sure our kit was tended to, which included 'gorgomyting' and when I saw and felt the difference to my basses frets I was sold. Which was of course his intention, but he's a top bloke and the stuff just works. Using it on a maple fingerboard is a scary experience as it starts to go black, but it wipes off no problem when you buff.
Oooh, I do love to buff!
2. I think theres a problem with your pc mate, not the forum
3. I reckon my SVT2 PRO is the mutts. I used a 4x 10 but changed to a Genz 6x10 which sounds lurvely !
4.
Indeed there is, and this is the problem. For someone just starting out, like the OP, there is so much lessons/information out there, that it can be overwhelming and hard to know where to start. Also the majority of lessons on You Tube are "one offs". If you dont know the basics, you may not understand the concept of what is being taught. This is why I posted the "StudyBass" site for the OP. Each lesson builds on what went before.
Fair point mate but there are indeed lessons for beginners in books and videos too. Your link looks like a good place to start
5. Tone is made of an amalgomation of tonelets and noisers. The tonelets get excited by the noisers and propogate which gives you a treblier sound. If you turn your knob the other way this phenomenon is repeated, but another participant , the oompher is added, which gives a bassy sound
6.
Is it a video? I'm in work so I can't see videos on our work computers. If it's Darryl Jennifer related, good on you bro, I doff my cap to you!
Cheers man, lot of respect for Bad Brains
7. I would have thought with electric guitars, that the wood would make sod all difference as its not an acoustic instrument, but all I know is, my ash bodied home made P bass, sounds awesomer than any of my other basses
8. Loads of videos on yoo choob and loads of books out there. Welcome to the world of bass playing, you will love it
9. I have no sound. I cant listen
10.
No one's mention Darryl Jennifer of Bad Brains yet His bass playing is incredible, especially on The Big Takeover.
What did I just post?
11. Gorgomyte! Sounds like an element off of small soldiers. Greetings Alan now shut up
12. I thought maybe they were similar to the Fender/Squire guitars which are not worlds apart. What puts me off the Gibson T bird is the bloody prices for a good one!
13. I had an Epiphone T bird bass which I really liked the look of but I hated the balance on the thing. It was very neck heavy due to the massive head stock, plus I found the pups were very quiet. Id always wanted a T bird because I think they are gorgeous. Id love to try a proper Gibson one to see how much different it sounds
14. I have a Status Eclipse which was my only bass for about 20 years. It was bashed and worn and I decided to strip it and spray it. I wish I had left it because it had character and now it looks sh*t

16.
Wow! I've got a certificate for swimming a width and the Mrs Joyful prize for rafia work.
17.
Thanks, Evil Undead Unfortunately I have my heart set on an ash body, have HUGE GAS for a slab body P but a normal ash would do more than fine haha
I bought a couple of ash bodies from ebay and I made a P bass with one of them. The sound from it is awesome. I dont know how much the ash is contributing to this, but its a big heavy slab of wood. Im actually embarrased to say , its the best sounding bass I have. Even better than the American std P bass!
18. The only way to really soundproof a room is to build a room within a room. Its the "dead" air in between the walls that soaks up the sound. I bought a load of proper foam soundproofing tiles and stuck them to my walls. They are egg box shaped. They have made sod all difference. The insert I made for the window seems to work not too badly. Its just annoying the room I use for our rehearsals is too small for me to make a room within a room because we are pretty tightly squeezed as it is
19. We are the same where I work. There is a no alcohol policy, but that is just to cover their arse in case someone goes over the top. Sensible drinking is ignored. I reckon this is a similar case although on a ship you are a bit more high profile if you go to the bar
20.
Egg cartons.
That would be a lot of Omellettes
21. Im quite glad I dont sound like Mark King, nothing against him as he is a virtuoso, but I hate his sound
22. I will look out for it again, incidentaly, you can buy the series on dvd on Amazon or E bay if you want to have a permanent copy. The last episode was covering Progressive rock with the likes of Rush included, so I was indeed cheesed off to miss that after watching the rest
23.
Yep that's the one. Just watched Glam Metal. Not my bag at all but still a thoroughly enjoyable hour.
Yeah, indeed a great show. I was recording every episode when it was on and thorougly enjoying it, but for some reaso the last episode never recorded and I was not a happy wee boy!
24. To be honest, Ive never even thought about it. I play mainly with fingers, but use a pick when I want good attack. I dont think of any difference in technique when Im playing a guitar apart from the fact that I tend to use a heavier pick on the bass
25. I seen the history of heavy metal which was a series that showed different genres every episode. Is this the same show you are talking about?
