1. I love these things. Hard to beat for the money. Fretless sounds particularly good with Tapewound strings. GLWTS.
2. Harry bought one of my basses. Great communications and a fast, hassle-free transaction. Thanks Harry.
3. Thanks Rob! Currently sold pending.
4. None of the above basses particularly interest me although if the AC had binding I would give it a second look and hope the signature is a bit scrawly so no one can tell who's it is :-). You are right about the random choice of some signature instruments. Why Herbie Flowers (with the SAME LPB Jazz bass for over 50 years !!) or JJ Burnel (Precision most of the way - and a trendsetter) haven't been acknowledged beats me. I think a 1959/60 LPB Jazz with U neck and stack knobs at a sensible price point would interest more people beyond the signature.
5. BUMP - plenty of trade interest but it seems cash is in short supply all round. It'll be hard to find a better example of a BSR5TN Black Tiger.
6. NOW SOLD... A feeler as I need to fund some solar panels... offers welcome. I have a Ampeg Heritage B15 from the first and only limited European run. There were only 100 of these made, all with numbered plate and only a few trickled into the UK. These are not the same as the B15N widely available today which has a black fascia, is PCB based (I think) and costs around £2800. This Heritage B15 fliptop is handwired in the USA and uses high-quality hand-selected tubes. The amp had a retail price of £4995 and a street price of at least £4000 (average seemed to be around £4400). I currently have it boxed up so photos may take a few days. There are very light scuffs on the lid from shipping (annoying but it was like that when I got it). Depending on the light you may see these or not, they are not major at all and when the combo is in use they are of course on the underside of the lid which is no longer visble. It's really nothing at all but if you look closely they are there. Anyway, the amp sounds fantastic, looks cool as heck with the black checked tolex and can switch between 1964 or 1966 valve preamps before running to the valve power stage. It's totally tubelicious. It's got to be as close to the holy grail as it gets. It would be ideal for a recording studio. Here's the Ampeg blurb - http://www.ampeg.com.../heritage/b-15/ Not looking for any trades at the moment, thanks.
7. Managed to take a few new shots of the Ken Smith Black Tiger. Yes, it is a lovely work of art. I couldn't find any dings or marks at all. As I say it has had very little use and has never been played out. Included with the sale is all the case candy, KS strap, tools, warranty etc. Had lots of interest and trade possibilities... thanks for that.... would really prefer the cash as I'm not 100% on the direction I'm going basswise right now... although a Jazz will definately be coming into the family.
8. No fivers at the moment thanks.... it's the reason I'm selling the Ken Smith :-)
9.
Interested Rob allen mouse 30'?
I would really prefer an MB2 but I'll keep this in mind. Cheers.
10. Price: £3000 firm. I've had a couple of attempts at five string now and I have sadly come to the conclusion that I prefer playing four string. Hence I'm putting my Ken Smith Black Tiger 5 up for sale. Bass was bought new and imported by me last year from Bass Central in the USA and has pretty much sat in it's case since then apart from a few attempts at home of converting myself to five string. Bass plays nice with low action. I attach the original photos as I don't recall the bass taking any knocks at all but I WILL have a real close look and update this post if necessary with fresh photos. I would prefer a cash deal but I do have an interest in a Rob Allen MB2 or perhaps a Status 30th Anniversary Series II if a deal can be struck. Other passing interests COULD include a Spector NS2 or EuroLX, Warwick Streamer Stage 1, nice stack knob or binding and blocks Jazz or Ibanez Musician MC924 or MC940 DS with cash my way of course. Or even a Ken Smith Black Tiger 4 string !! I recall the cost of the bass, shipping, tax and duties was over £4000 originally. It's a gorgeous instrument but I haven't felt comfortable with a five. Figured Walnut Top/Figured Maple Core/Walnut Back, 5-Piece Maple/Bubinga Neck w/Ebony Fingerboard, Mother Of Pearl Top & Side Dots, Smith Humbucker Pickups & 3-Band 18v Preamp, Gold Hardware, Case. Serial #5TN626513. 10 LBS.
11. MC900 is the one Sting used with the front-facing (and more prone to damage) jack socket. I think the MC924 extended the frets from 22? to 24. Later revisions of the body shape had a larger contour around the edges and various types of pickups were used. There is a webpage with a lot of MC history but I can't locate it right now.
12. NIce! I may have to acquire one of these myself.
13. I agree. Rob's necks are some of the best I've ever played. I have a Status P neck but nearly every Status bass I pick up, I marvel at how comfy the neck is. The tone is very pure and I like that.
14. No. The more I try Jazz's the more I realise I like Precisions. However, I do want to have that back pickup burp available sometimes... hence next bass is a Spector NS2 type.
15. Not tried the RH750 but I was underwhelmed by the tone of the RH450. As far as Markbass heads go, I've found my favourite with the discontinued TA-501. An LM3 into an Aguilar SL112 also sounded great, better than playing it through a Markbass cab.
16. Am I right in thinking the original numbered run (# of 30) are now sold out and Spector are building more (standard serials with same spec) to order? Either way, nice bass and the maple bodies (rather than alder) are closer to the original NS-2.
17. The Tort looks great!! Like an inferno... I'd like to order one for my P bass when available.
18. As already mentioned, a tube swap in this amp won't yeild radically different results. The GP12SMX is my favourite Trace pre.
19. Cool. Always good to see Herbie clips. Haven't seen that one before. Even back then he had ten years mileage on the same bass...
20. ONLY if taking it to a professional is not an option... It sounds to me like it needs some more 'relief' on the bass side of the neck. Have you tried SLACKENING this truss rod to try and remove the forward bow? You may then need to lower the action again. I would have thought that going to a lighter gauge string would increase the problem.
21. Electro Music have secured the services of mega-session player Phil Spalding for a 'Bass Evening With' event at The Regent Hotel, Doncaster on Wednesday March 5th. Phil has an impressive CV having recorded with Robbie Williams, Kylie, Mick Jagger, Elton John, Mike Oldfield, Simon Townshend amongst many others, not forgetting his roots in Original Mirrors and Toyah (with Simon Phillips). More details and video here:
http://www.electromusic.co.uk/philspalding
He gets right 'in the zone' on the Seal clip!
22. I have played this bass and can vouch that it has a wonderful neck with buzz-free low action. I think Status make one of the most comfortable neck profiles out there.
23. I happen to like flats on a graphite neck. Clear and pure bass tone. A great combination.
