  3. The 100 is cheap secondhand, capable, and so very small and light (you can pick it up with one finger), that I just wouldn’t consider a 40.

  8. I’ve never seen a 60’s factory black with matching headstock before. It’s a very cool bass, and waaaaayy out of my league.
  9. There are some very good suggestions here. I also have a Trace Elliot Elf and Barefaced One10 cabs, great little setup. I also have a Fender Rumble 100w combo which is bonkers loud for the wattage rating, and I use it at most rehearsals now simply because it’s so convenient, and sounds so good. The 500w version can be picked up quite cheaply secondhand too. Rob

  11. That does look nice Tony. It’s slightly cheaper than the ‘73 Jazz I bought from them last August too, but I suppose that’s down to the guard. It would be interesting to know if there are holes under the guard for the tug bar in the earlier position. Rob
  12. I bought Peter’s Nux wireless system yesterday and he delivered it to my home on the same day! Obviously we had to have a bit of a chinwag. I’m very glad to have met you Peter. Rob
  13. I “intend” to use it with the BF cab. It may look like an early 70’s Bassman, but it’s been rebuilt from scratch by Martin Garton (Gartone Amps), and the only original parts now are the chassis, cabinet, mains transformer and choke. Yes, it’s still a 50w head based on the Fender circuit, but it’s essentially a new amp internally. It does sound really good through the Super Compact.
  14. Having been asked to join a newly forming band a few months ago, we’ve now got two hours worth of good material and a dozen gigs in the diary, the first being on Good Friday. I assembled my gear at home this week to do some assessment. I think the two 10’s with the Bergantino are reliably ample and are going to get the most use, but the Bassman has a great vintage valve tone and I’m hoping it will work too if I’m DI’d into FOH as well.   15. I’m sad to read this. We never met in person, but we started exchanging messages when he discovered I’d bought his old ‘73 Jazz. He contacted me just to say hi, and we talked about the backstory of the bass and that I was only the third owner. I’m a few years older than Nick, it’s a proper reality check. Too young. RIP Nick.

  17. I have a 1987 MIJ Fender PB-62 RI which I bought from Bass Bros. It was immaculate and only £850 I think. The neck is almost identical to my '73 P bass B neck, lovely neck.
  18. Indeed a good price. It's cheaper than the '78 I bought last year which looks almost identical to it. @walshy would probably help you with the non original parts. It's not too heavy either, although mine is a really lightweight one, which is one of the main reasons I bought it. Rob
  19. When I bought it I knew it had been heavily modded/messed with over the years. It's been rebuilt by Martin Garton (Gartone Amps). To paraphrase a famous quote, "blast off and nuke it from space, it's the only way to be sure". So that's we've done. The amp has been entirely gutted, new eyelet board, pots, valve bases, jacks, switches etc, redesigned circuit, increased voltages and filtering, slide switches are now mid boosts, Heyboer Twin Reverb output transformer (big iron and now 8 ohms to match my cab), NOS 7581A output valves, Telefunken pre-amps. It's whisper quiet in operation and has a great tone for bass through the Barefaced Super Compact.
  20. I know, you’ve said it before when I’ve talked about this amp. But, this is a ground up re-imagining of a Bassman, it’s shaking the house and staying clean up to around 5 on the volume at the moment. It might get louder, but I haven’t had the courage to try it yet.

  22. The Countryman looks a cracking bit of kit, but I can only find one place to buy it, and it's £336 plus shipping.   23. I'm reading some conflicting info about the need for a passive or active DI? I play strictly passive Fender P and J basses. Reading about the Radial stuff, they are saying I need an active DI because I don't have an active bass. This relies on there being phantom power supplied from the desk. Confused!
  24. I've just had a look at those. The fact that I can run it between my amp and cab, then send the amp signal to the desk is good. But that would be a full range signal uncoloured by a cab. I imagine there would be more highs present than I'm hearing on stage. I gues that why you said best run with a FRFR cab. I'm running it with a Barefaced Super Compact, no tweeter, so I think it's rolling some highs off. Whatever I choose, I also don't want it to colour/affect the signal from my bass to the amp. I just want a nice signal to send to FOH. It's not straightforward is it !
